Sagewood is a special place with a unique community. There are lots of ways for students to get involved and because it is a smaller middle school, the staff and teachers really get to know students. The students in general are kind, nice and respectful and the parent community is very supportive. This is a school that I would send my own children to.

My son (now a freshman at Pondo 2023) and our family had a positive experience at Sagewood. He went there for 2 years after relocating here. I’m not sure how academically challenged he was (he is private about his work) but he got excellent grades, was motivated and didn’t want to miss school (!). We really liked the teachers (Husomes! Hughes! Kirkland!) and Principal. We felt communication was thorough, consistent and responsive. I’m glad there’s a cell phone policy and appreciated it. There are lots of clubs or sports kids can join. He got into xc & track at Sagewood (was never into running, more skateboarding) and is enthusiastically continuing in high school. My daughter (6th grade) is going there now - day 3 and loves it so far. I’ll report back in a year. She’s a totally different child! I wish there was more cultural/social awareness and opportunities for students to give back to their communities and communities in need/crises.

I have been shocked at the lack of leadership at this school. Bullying, threats, racism, are things student’s experience on a daily basis. Even when reporting things to the administrators, nothing is done. Teachers swear - dropping f bombs in class like it’s normal. Instead of understanding or trying to understand needs of middle schoolers they kick them out of class daily. No one is learning, they are dealing with teachers who are new to teaching and have no leadership or mentors.

This might be a fine school for some, I’m not sure, but I went here for three years and I can say for sure if you are NOT WHITE do not go to this school! I am a non white former student who experienced bullying, harassment and open discrimination and the school did nothing! On one occasion I was called a “dirty Mexican” and on another I was told that I “looked like someone who would get deported” IN FRONT OF A TEACHER and she had the audacity to laugh in my face and walk away. This was also the same teacher who gave lessons on anti discrimination and considered herself an advocate for marginalized groups. She even led discussions in class on women’s rights but somehow forgot to include anti-racism in her class schedule. I guess in all of her self proclaimed “wokeness” she left it out. I wonder why? This school is a harsh place if you’re not white. Half of the school is conservative and has no problems telling you they hate you meanwhile the other half is a bunch of stuck up liberals who think that because they went to one anti racist March that they have done enough for the “colored folk” and will look the other way as the racists attack you. Honestly, I hope this school has changed so other kids don’t have to go through what I did but I’d be lying if a part of me doesn’t want to see this school be condemned and torn down to a pile of rubble. Until that day, I guess I’ll just have to settle for this review.

Mr. Winsor, the prior principal, was amazing and really understood what kids in middle school went through. He also heeded the expert recommendations of his support staff.

The last year and this year have been awful with D’Ardenn as the principal. I felt like with the principal before him that we were moving forward positively and Mr. D’Ardenn has now set the kids back. Very disappointing.

My daughter has had a wonderfully positive experience at Sagewood, both academically and socially. The workload is balanced and purposeful. She has learned a lot in her advanced classes and has been able to choose differentiated assignments/projects at a higher level in her social studies class (where an advanced class isn't offered). Students have real responsibility in their clubs and organizations, which is a valuable learning experience outside the classroom. Teachers and administrators are very caring and responsive to individual students' needs. The new principal is very hands on, eager to get to know the students, and always available to hear feedback from parents. In fact, he arranged a series of coffees for that very purpose, and he truly listened to parents' suggestions and feedback, both positive and constructive.

This school seems to only care about money. They are kicking my 11 year old daughter out of a play because she didnt pay them for her participation. I agreed to pay the money then they told me i have to buy a computer first so i can pay them. I will look into enrolling my children in a different school that cares about the kids and not my wallet

I was a student at this middle school and I personally think that this school was generally not to shabby. I was at this school from 6th all the way until 8th grade and the teachers that I did have were working really hard on lesson with the kids but I do feel that there wasn't exactly a great approach for the kids who learn at a slower pace. I was absolutely terrible at anything involving math and my teachers knew that however; I just don't think they 100% knew how to approach the situation when helping me due to the topics I was having a hard time understanding. Mr. Winsor is such an amazing principal and does what he needs to do in order to keep a smoothly running school addressing all issues brought to his attention. However, I personally believe the counseling department needs improvement. Counselors actually rotate through the grades with the students. So The counselor your student has in 6th grade will be who you would go to in 7th and 8th. I personally am basing this off of my experience with my counselor throughout the years. I never had a lot of issues with fitting in during 6th grade because I honestly didn't care about what others thought but 7th and 8th is where I was finding I was bullied and picked on a lot more. I actually had a really bad incident with another student and I went to my counselor about it. Not because I wanted someone to get in trouble but just to talk. Before you see your counselor you have to fill out a slip that goes to your counselor saying why one is in there and when it would work to meet. With my counselor, I had to fill in everything with it being urgent because unless my problem was urgent my counselor wanted nothing to do with me. There was a time when my mom was called which was completely understandable just because of the situation I did bring forward and my mom was told that my counselor would be checking in with me every week to make sure I was stable and okay with my environment. By now I am in 8th grade and there was actually no time I was called down to the office so my counselor could check on me which is what my mom was told would take place. If there is a really important situation needing to be brought up I would highly suggest an email to Mr. Winsor because he is wonderful at his job. I love the improvements already made to help the students.

Encountered very rude staff including teachers. The teachers were not committed in the students education. Very upset by me and many others experience was at this school.

I have 3 boys that all attend or have attended Sagewood and we have had a great experience here. Not everyday anywhere will be "perfect" as my kids say, but they all enjoy their time here. Our teachers have been very supportive. I have a son in the SSN program and couldn't praise that department enough! The kids are very interactive, and other students are assigned to help him in all his elective classes. Many of those students are thinking of going into the field and they love the opportunity to work with the "special" kids.

Heartbreaking to hear that a kid is being bullied by both the students and the people charged with protecting him. We had the same issue at our previous school. Sagewood has been great for our child. We have heard of a kid in class, though, that kids pick on and then he reacts in a way that annoys the teachers too so he is sort of stuck. Neither teachers or students like him so he isn't really getting the chance he needs to be himself and relax. It might be the size of the classes here. We have had a really good experience here but I am guessing that managing 160 kids a day takes away from the opportunity for teachers to protect kids from this kind of abuse, I hope these parents don't give up hope and this kid doesn't either. I hope all parents will teach their kids to be kind instead of cruel.

They amount of bullying in this school is RIDICULOUS! My son is picked on daily. He is physically assaulted each day by other students when walking down the hallways. He gets scolded by the staff when he tries to report it or gets in trouble when he defends himself. I have also talked to the Assistant Principal multiple times about this. I was assured that this would be take care of. It hasn't as of yet. I don't like being lied to. I have now reached out to the Principal. My son tells me daily that he doesn't want to go to school. This is the first school he has ever said this about. This started in September, it is now March. The teachers are rude and do not communicate if there is a problem. I have to reach out to them. I honestly have nothing good to say about the school other than it has a pretty view of the mountains.

This school is a joke! I'm trying to get my student out of here! There are some great teachers but instructional support teachers are a joke! They don't handle problems well at all!

Sagewood is a joke of a middle school. My daughter is a special needs student and she was actually pushed down in the hallway! The staff didn't even inform me of this until weeks later during a conference. I asked what I could do to help and they had few ideas. I have found that the kids there are very rude and disrespectful. Please do adequete research before enrolling your children here. It was a nightmare for me and especially my daughter!

Sagewood Middle School is bad. The majority of kids there are rich and don't understand reality. I have gone here for one and a half years and do not like it. A lot of kids are stuck up too. I don't have a lot of money so it's hard to go school with these kids.
