They have provided great opportunities for students with ALP. Mesa does a great job matching students to classes that are right for them and prepare them for high school.

My daughter is just now finishing her first year at Mesa, and it has been a great year. She has absolutely thrived as she participated in several sports, student leadership opportunities, and had several teachers that helped her find a new love/appreciation for academic subjects that she didn't enjoy in the past. The technology tools used at Mesa this year were good, the number of electives was good, the teachers were always available for questions, the SRO had a great presence and interacted well with the kids, the counselors were readily available to students, and the communication from teachers/administrators was very good. From my perspective, Mesa and its new principal have been a great experience for our family. My only disappointment is that the school doesn't have lockers (so the kids have to carry large loads on their backs all day), and some teachers use the "punish all for the acts of one" approach -- but I think this peer-pressure approach is probably common in most middle/high schools ....?Overall, Mesa has been a great middle school experience for our family. My daughter is excited about her second year, next year, and now my youngest child can't wait for his chance to attend. We are grateful to be Mesa Bears!

It sucks and I hated every second of it and will never come back or want my kids to go to Mesa everyone there is disrespectful including some teachers they don’t care about students being bullied overall worst school I have ever been to. Never send your kids here it absolutely sucks. If I could I would give it zero stars but I’m not allowed to do that.

Not a good school for kids that have IEP's. My child is struggling and most of his teachers are unwilling to meet him where he is and try to help him. We keep getting told that they have no idea what he needs and he needs to be more responsible and advocate for himself.

My kids attended Sage Canyon before Mesa, and Sage Canyon was amazing. People said to not send your kids to Douglas County Schools, and after Sage Canyon those comments didn't make sense. After my kids attended Mesa I understood their comments. Mesa has a phenomenal principal but too many teachers seem to not care. They appear angry. This is understandable after the chaos of the shut downs during the pandemics and the poorly managed school board (it's terrible no matter what political side runs it -- It shouldn't be political and that's part of the problem). My kids used to love school but are doing poorly now and say they hate it. From bullying at Mesa, to angry teachers, to a messed up school board, to the depression and separation the panic shut downs created, Douglas County Schools continue to fail students. We are leaving Douglas County Schools for our kids. The school board and school can't do their job, in my opinion based on our experience, so we are saving our kids from them. It is terribly sad how much damage has been done to everyone's kids in the last few years.

As a current student of the school, I say that the school does little to work on bullying, especially bulling of the LGBTQ+ group (as part of the LGBTQ+ community myself). I have a trans friend that is always subjugated to bullying from his peers, and we keep bringing it up to the teachers, and they always say "We will talk to them later". Later never happens. They do enough to save face, but not enough that people feel safe in the school. My personal experience is people always asking me really inappropriate questions over who I like and whats my "type", and constantly (and purposely) misgendering me. (They/them). So if you have an LGBTQ+ kid, I recommend another school.

School cultivates bullying. Teachers ignore inappropriate behavior. Your child will be a target unless they are willing to fit into a mold. administration at the district level refuses to address the bullying and anti-diversity atmosphere.

My child has had a wonderful experience this year! He has been challenged, is excited about learning, and has the appropriate amount of homework. Any concerns he has had, he has addressed it with his teachers and/or counselor and they have always been supportive. The principal does a wonderful job communicating with families on the positive things that have been happening with students. He also has been informative about their overall state performance. I appreciate him being so forth coming and wanting parents to be informed. No school is perfect but if parents are involved in their child's education, it becomes a positive outcome for all.

We've had a great experience CR with this school. My child has had a good experience overall. Teachers seem helpful. We just returned from conferences and appreciated that my child's teachers all took time to talk with us and give helpful feedback. Junior high can be challenging in general and my child is happy and content with the environment. To me, that speaks volumes.

My sons are now in their second year at Mesa Middle School and what I have experienced is very few teachers that genuinely care if children are learning or not. Also, there is lots of bullying, racism, behavioral issues on the bus and at school that is tolerated. I have shared and raised several concerns with the principle and assistant principle and no action or improvement has been seen. I encourage my children to seek guidance and problem solve but when they have brought incidents of bullying and racist remarks to the principle's attention they have been ignored or they have been told that my children are the problem. Adults that cannot provide children with positive guidance should not be in education.

Our experience with our first child at Mesa has been exceptional. Our son has always been an average student and a little unmotivated. The teachers he has had in his nearly two years have consistently pushed him to work harder and achieve more. He has had the good fortune to have a fun social experience in addition to a positively challenging educational experience. We look forward to sending our daughter to Mesa, too.

Mesa is truly a great school with teachers who are not too strict however still teach successfully. They provide fit school lunches and they also provide outside time after lunch. The principal is nice and the teacher are mostly laid back. I do not see why people think mesa is not a very good school. It provides learning materials needed for modern success such as MacBook Pros and Mac SuperDrives, iPad and tablets. It is sure to influence you or your child in a good manner!

I would be very cautious when choosing this middle school. The teachers are average at best and the administration is changing again. We have to give our kids extra work at home because there is hardly any homework given out to help the kids learn their subjects better. The grades do not reflect the education. The standardized test scores do.
