My daughter has gone there for 2 years (pre-k and is now finishing up 1st grade). She has been bullied and beat up on SEVERAL occasions and even though their school says they have a “no bullying” policy, nothing has been done to prevent it nor have the kids gotten in trouble. My daughter defended herself by slapping a child back and was suspended off the bus, and iss for 2 days. The other kid got no punishment. She was repeatedly beat up by a 5th grader and nothing was done. She was kicked repeatedly and they were only separated and no other punishment happened for the kid who kicked her repeatedly. They have “lost” my child atleast 6 times in the past 2 years. This school is careless and should not be open! It has gotten to the point where my child will not return next year even if i have to homeschool! My child used to love learning and loved school and since being in this school has started to BEG not to go to school and has also started to not trust teachers and staff to protect her! I do NOT recommend putting your children in this school!!!

Barksdale is a truly wonderful school! My family is in its 6th year at BES with our 3 children going through. We cannot say enough about this school. The teachers, administrators, and staff are just fantastic. They are talented, hard-working, dedicated, and caring. My kids are receiving an excellent education here, and we are confident that my oldest will be well-prepared for middle school next year. The PTO also does a great job. Thank you BES!

This is by far the BEST school here! We just moved to Rockdale and my kids were very nervous starting a new school. Now they can't wait to wake up to go to school! Kudos to the staff at Barksdale Elementary! You all go over and beyond for the kids and parents . Thank you all! , Aimee Pirkey

My youngest child is starting 1st grade this year. He previously attended c.j. Hicks elementary, which was an ok school. He has already met many teachers at Barksdale and everyone has been so supportive and kind to my whole family. Most of the teachers there have been teaching for over 20 years. They were kind and helpful with the whole changing process. I personally believe Barksdale is one of the best schools in the district. If your looking for a warm, friendly enviornment, then i suggest Barksdale

Great, engaged and proactive teachers, advanced curriculum. My daughter loves it here and its the closest thing to private school in a public format!

Barksdale is an excellent school to send your children to. As a mother of 2 I'm very pleased with this school. Diversity is honored at Barksdale by all walks of life. They welcome you to join the learning community that is instilled in the day to day routine. Teachers and admistratlrs are very dedicated towards helping children grow and learn. Everyone is very friendly beyond expectations.

Hello to everyon, I have three children at barksdale right now, 4th,3rd, and kindergarten. I just wanted to say that everyone is going to have a different experience at any school. I am a black parent and I don't feel the school is racist at all they have always treated my family with the up most respect. I have often wished there were more black teachers on staff but through a little research I have found that number one this town use to be mostly white so they had more white teachers here. Some of the teachers have been here for 20, 30 years, now, to me as long as they are not racist that;s fine. When people love their jobs and where they work they stay. Should the school fire white teachers so they can hire new black teachers, I don't think so. I do pay attention to when there are opening like there was a few moths ago and they hired a new para a good friend of mine and she's black. Now do I think they should only hire blacks until they catch up no, that would be unfair to every other race. Young black mother from Decatur loving barksdale and the town it's in.

I have one child who attended BES 1st-5th grade, another who is a rising 3rd grader, and another who is about to begin kindergarten. I cannot give enough praise for the professionalism, concern and dedication of the teachers and staff at BES. From the principal to the custodians, everyone there seems to have an eagerness to see our children succeed. I'm proud of BES and very happy that my children are a part of it.

I'm a single parent with a father that just passed away. The principle ignored a letter that I sent to her about my child's attendance. Unless you are a stay-at-home soccer mom, you are constantly being harassed by the school. No understanding for working single parents whatsoever!!!!
