I totally agree with the past two comments below, it's crazy I've found these comments online, and my complaints are the exact same! They are totally telling the truth, and so glad our change has come, all I have to say is "parents" please be involved with your child while attending there! So horrible, and I agree to it as the worst!!! Looking at the schools statistics was enough that shocked me! And please know the extra support a child may need while attending this school....search elsewhere because it's not there, and it's sad! Never experienced 90% of the staff so unprofessional working within the school system!

The state needs to not only look at this school but all RCPS. Students are not being supported and parents/children suffer repercussions when you advocate for their needs. There are some good teachers there but the bad outweigh the good.

this is the worse school my child has ever been to they don't know how to deal with students that learn different of that is being tested for learning disability also the principle is out of touch and also the assistant principle how tries to over talk when discussing there wrongs and belittling you as if you don't know your child and she is always taking up for teachers that don't do there job these are kids all kids are not the same and most kids learn things in different ways but she cant handle the way they learn and hold grudges on students when they are to young to understand what grudges are because yelling at the students knowing that student has a behavioral problems and yelling is not helping so my take is if you know how to multitask while working with students that have disabilities when there being tested then a teacher is not the career for you

If you are a teacher seeking a job--I do not recommend. If you are a parent seeking a learning environment free of major disruptions to your child's learning environment--I do not recommend. It is not widely communicated to families or staff that Sims Elementary is a hub for students with special needs--particularly students in need of emotional and behavioral support. There are at least 2 special programs that have students bussed from across the district and sent to this school. There are not enough teachers and support staff to truly support the demographic. The hallways are often loud and chaotic --students attempting to run out the building and having screaming fits. There seems to also be a great number of students in the general education classes who are not diagonosed/identified as students with disabilities, but exhibiting the same behaviors as those students that do have the diagnoses. Those classes with those students are not being adequately supported. The district has decided to can paras past 1st grade. Not because by second grade students have shown improvement academically or behaviorally, but simply because the district does not want to pay for para professionals to have medical insurance. This is a district that is supposed to be student centered--not money centered. So regardless, of the need of the students, the district's position is money-centered. There is not accountability for students who disrespect teachers: yelling, cursing, throwing chairs and other objects, flipping desks, etc. The county has a practice of skewing the data that his reported regarding behavioral incidents within the Infinite Campus system where behavior referrals should be logged. They have teachers report incidents in a separate portion of the system and after a certain number of "qualified" offenses, they lump that together to report 1 offense. This does not paint a true picture of how often students are exhibiting inappropriate at least and violent (at worst) behavior.

I have two children that attend this school and one that will begin next year. We have been blessed that both our children each year have been given wonderful teachers. They go over and beyond what is required to make sure each student meet their educational needs. I would love to see more parent involvement. Parents can't rely on schools to do it on their own. The more parents help the better our schools will be.

I have two children that attend this school one in the first grade and the other in the fourth grade. We transferred them to Sims last year from another school in Rockdale County. The school that they previously attended ratings are much higher, however as a parent I feel this school better suits my children. The teachers are great! We do have a new Principal that we have not become familiar with, but plan to in the future. Allison Barbour was the principal last year and she was GREAT! I love the AVID program.I appreciate the hard work of all the staff at Sims.

My son graduated from Sims 2yrs ago. This school has made me love Rockdale Cty schools. Although we relocated to AtlantA and I had to take him out of Rockdale cty but we are moving back and I hope Memorial Middle School give us the same results. Mr. Randolph is great with his students and Mr. Bragsdale (hope i spelled it right) worked one on one with my son and helped him improve his behavior problem...We love this school!!! All of the teachers are great!!!

Haven't been in private school last year, my main concern was really only the size of the school. I love the teachers, the curriculum and the drive and enthusiasm of the principle, the faculty and the students. My son is in first grade & loves it! He's a little more advanced so after the first week of school, he was recommended to test for the gifted program. His teacher is able to challenge and accommodate his academic knowledge/level. Last year, he was completely bored in private school, having repeated everything he'd done the year prior in private pre-k. This year, he can't wait to go to school. My only wish is that the parents were slightly more involved. In a school of nearly 600 students, in the meetings and events I've attended very few parents have been there. I love love love SIms, the faculty and staff. I can't wait to see how the year progresses. I am thankful that we are a part of the Sims family!
