Stevens used to be a great school. It was a GT center, and had a great culture. In more recent years, the GT focus has been all but abandoned, and gifted children rarely seem to have enrichment let alone ALP focus. Math is a joke. Some classrooms are so loud a lot of the time and focused on the ASD center kids that it’s detrimental to ALL students. Violence seems to now be almost daily rather than rare. Children are at risk from other children in their classrooms. They are at risk on the playgrounds. They are at risk, from their peers. And no one cares- because the kids that are responsible matter more than the kids they hurt. When do their rights end and the other kids rights begin? Where is the balance? All children should be able to learn and have an opportunity to thrive, and they shouldn’t have to constantly not have those opportunities in order for other kids to have theirs. They shouldn’t have to always be waiting for another meltdown or wondering if they’ll get hurt or friends will. It’s just not fair. It’s not an environment that’s conducive to learning. Sometimes, it’s traumatic. Stevens is a school that now wants to claim too many things, and needs to pick one. Be a GT center, or an ASD center. Diversity in the student body is a beautiful thing, but when the needs of a few outweigh the needs of the rest, habitually- that student body as a whole is no longer served. Stevens office staff is amazing. The support staff are amazing. Social workers, nurses, paras, health aid- even the janitorial staff and maintenance- all great. There are some awesome teachers that haven’t fled yet. A lot of the staff here genuinely care about the students. They know them by name, they know who might need more food at home or a hug, they know the kid’s interests, their families, etc. Stevens is incredibly lucky to have most of the staff they have. Administrators need to open their eyes, and figure out a better way forward. They need to leave their offices and see what’s happening in classrooms- and imagine for a moment being a young child trying to learn to read with someone having a full blown meltdown next to you or throwing furniture across the room. All the time. They need to see what their teachers and other staff see, and ask how to support them better (psssttt I bet it’s not with baked potato or taco bars). Do better.

We have been at Stevens for four years now. We love the diversity within the school, which has many cultures, learner types, and socio-economic backgrounds. The EL curriculum that they have been working to implement over the last five years is transformative. It focuses on socio-emotional skills and gives teachers lots of flexibility to cater teaching to students starting at different levels. For instance, my daughter's class learned about our community's history this year amid a major community transition due to school closures and consolidations. It was a great way to talk about what is happening, and I learned a lot from her. I've also been really impressed by improved communication from the new principal and commitment to seeing how more families can have a voice in their child's learning. Many of the students who attend this school have a way to go to get to grade level, which is why I have been impressed with the conversations that staff is having about student outcomes. They monitor and talk about student progress with one another and with parents and they also work with students to set and work toward academic goals monthly in their all-school CREW. Serving the diverse population that goes to Stevens is not easy. Still, this team of teachers and administrators really love their students, and you can see every day that they are committed to continuous improvement. I feel very lucky to be part of this community.

If I could give this school a minus 10 I would! My grandson went to this school and was being bullied, we brought this to the attention of the teacher, nothing was done, then went to the principal, again nothing was done, by the way, the principal and teacher are very incompetent, and I'm not just saying this because my grandson was being bullied, they are both truly incompetent. Jeffco schools in general has really gone down hill, and this school is one of its top failures!

We came to Stevens under the guise that it was a GT center school. It is not. Please don’t be fooled like we were. This school is terrible. A large percentage of the kids are out of control. So many discipline problems that it is hard for kids that want to learn. GT is a solid 1.5 hours a day. The remainder is nothing be mediocrity. My kid is continually threatened and bullied. I would not recommend this school.

If you only look at the score of the school then you will be missing out on a wonderful school. I love the diversity and the emotional support my child gets. All the staff know all of the kids and the educational rigor is there. If you want a homogenous environment that shelters your child from learning how to navigate diversity, then please choice into one of these schools (there are plenty in Jeffco). The STEAM lab is awesome. Participating in First LEGO league was amazing. This school is going places! Again, score snobs, please go elsewhere!

Horrible school led by the most joke of a principal you could imagine

Terrible staff. The overreach of the teachers into the personal lives of their students is offensive and unwarranted.

We came to Stevens this year for 1st grade from a private school and we could not be happier ! We love the unity in the teaching staff as well as the leadership team. My daughter is excelling and I can not say enough about her teacher. I love how they sit down with parents (RISE) and teach you how to reinforce learning at home. Excellent ! and the facility is amazing. They offer all of the after school clubs you could want and have Red Rocks as their before & after care. This is an exciting time for this school and we ate fortunate to be apart of it . Go Eagles !

Stevens is known to have many fist to fry: serve the needs of economically, physically, behaviorally & academically challenged students! Yes, this is a very diverse place. We came to Stevens into one of the special programs they provide. We began with a great teacher. Unfortunately, at the end of that school year, every teacher teaching 1-6 grade in that program - 5 to 6 teachers - resigned from their positions at that school (including ours). That should have been a signpost for us! But instead, we re-enrolled. We were so sad to find that the new hire, didn’t have any formal higher education, accredited professional courses or certs in her special teaching area. Troubled by what was not happening for the education of our student, we pursued dialogue with administration, located our district resources for such situations, and also asked questions of the CO dept of Ed. The district opted to hold for status quo and a ‘wait and see’ course of action. As such, we did not remain at this school.-Our experience as parents showed that this admin is adept at building bonds with its faculty, but has difficult in speaking with parents and building *external* academic relationships. -Additionally, they will open cheerleader parents with open arms, but if you are seeking a dialogue that brings pros, as well as, cons to the table, that is a difficult one for them.-Finally, it seemed to us (and not unjustifiably) foremost in their minds, is the economic needs of the child and it can eclipse other needs that a student may bring to the table. We hope the best for Stevens - growth in their professional maturity and more direct, qualified support from the district!

This school has the most dedicated teachers and principals that I have ever met. They truly care about each and every child and follow each child's progress closely to make sure they are improving and reaching goals. I have not witnessed this much attention to detail and effort at any other school.
