This is my 8th year with kids at Sycamore. I have very mixed feelings about this school. Basically, they can be broken down as the teachers are fantastic and the administration is awful. If you are considering Sycamore and think your child needs special education services, I would recommend sending them somewhere else (because they will probably not get an IEP at Sycamore.) Also, Sycamore has a LOT of combination classes. I think I have had kids in combination classes for 4 years. This year, one of my kids is in a class with 5 other students her own grade and ~22 students a different grade. However, none of my kids have had a bad teacher - they have all been great.

Office staff is terrible! My sons kindergarten teacher seemed like she hated being a teacher and didn’t want to be there. During an awards ceremony a child was given an award and the teacher actually said that the girl was her “favorite student”. The school lacked in events, involvement. We decided to change schools after a very disappointing year. My son that attended was my third child to attend Simi schools and I was LESS than thrilled with this school.

My son has been attending Sycamore since kindergarten. I love that the school is on the smaller side. I really get the sense that the teachers and staff go above and beyond for their students. My son is thriving academically and enjoys going to school each day. The PTA is very welcoming and active in the school. My son and I are both very happy with this school.

We started Sycamore Elementary in 2013 when my son was in first grade and I have really enjoyed being a part of the Skyhawk family! I have had the pleasure of being a parent, volunteer and substitute at this school and I can't imagine a better place to be. The school is on the smaller side with about 2 teachers per grade level. The teachers really put in the time and effort to support their students. The PTA is fantastic. They are welcoming to all and provide a wide variety of activities and resources not only for the students but for the families as well. The principal takes her job very seriously and supports the entire school community, staff, students and families. Though my son is getting ready to head off to middle school next year, my two little ones will just be entering 3rd grade. I love being a part of this school...we have made many great memories and look forward to making many more!

The office staff is terrible. I mean absolutely shameful. I have wanted to pull my kids out so many times because of the principal and Maria (front office staff) specifically. However the teachers really make this school worth that negative. Beware the principle is judgemental and once your on her radar that's that.

Because when I was younger I went to this school and all the teachers and staff are really nice people and are willing to help u out with what ever your needs are

Beware of the current Principal. Very discriminatory towards certain parents. Not a supportive school and they are not open to new ideas that have proven to be successful in other schools. A very mundane and basic school but at least the teachers seem to care.

I stopped into this school to register and the office worker was really nice until I told her I was adopting my granddaughter. She then changed into almost pushing me out the door with paperwork. She suddenly didn't seem to want to answer any questions and I pretty much knew at that point I wouldn't even have a chance getting into this school of choice, not that I care to anymore.

Great school, great office staff, great teachers, great Principle. Everything about the school is great. My two kids were here, they would come out happy everyday and that made me content as a parent. Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Blount is someone you can count on blindly , God Bless her. The principle is never seen idling in, rather she peers around to make sure the yard is bully proof and takes personal care when dealing with parents and students. The office manager and staff head are so much ready to help all the time, ever so smiling. God Bless Sycamore Elementary School.. :-)

This is our second year at this school and I love it. I like it's size: not too big, not too small (approx. 430 students; with mostly 2 classes per grade), which lends itself to a good community feel. It seems that everyone likes being here and there is just a general positive feeling all around. Our principal is great - invested, caring, and leading. I appreciate the decent ethnic and socio-economic status diversity. The PTA is strong and welcoming, without any political or other drama you sometimes hear about in the PTA. The PTA really cares about bringing great stuff into the school for the kids, including fun monthly family night events. The kindergarten teachers are AMAZING!!! And first grade teachers are great too! (I have heard few to no complaints about the upper grade teachers, but I don't have much experience with them.) Sycamore is not our home school, and I chose it after researching and visiting other Simi schools...... and I'm so happy our "school of choice" has proved to be an excellent choice!!

Our daughter has been at this school for the last four years, and has truly enjoyed the experience of this small, close-knit school. The teachers are amazing and the PTA involvement and support is fantastic. We are very lucky to be part of this family.

Sycamore Elementary is a wonderful school. The smaller student body and layout of the campus is comfortable and welcoming. Parents are friendly and involved in the school. We've been here since 2004, and have benefitted greatly from the excellent teachers and supportive staff.

I choose to put my child in this school because of the rating and I made the biggest mistake. I did a lot of volunteering and noticed a lot of unfair treatment. I advise parents to ask their children how they are treated. There is way too much I have to say but instead of sharing my experience I would advise you to talk to your child. Especially when they have a school / class activity. If you can not volunteer please ask and believe your children on what they tell you.

We have been at this school since 2003. This is a great school and I'm very happy with the staff. The teachers truly care about the kids here and we are little family at Sycamore. That being said I must respond to the negative review below. In October 2010 there was no male 5th grade teacher on campus ( no male teachers at all) so that review is either a lie or a mistake.

My children have attended Sycamore for the past 6 years and I could not be happier. In 2009 we gained a terrific Principal with the vision and drive to make this school even better. There are many terrific teachers, an "all-knowing" office staff and involved parents. Sycamore has everything a parent should want in a school. As an added bonus: the PTA has a great group of Moms, who work hard to provide "extras" for the students.
