The teachers were kind and child oriented. The two 5th grade teachers that my child had were very lenient with grades. My child almost had straight As for the entire school year! I don't believe the coddled approach to assignments helped prepare for middle school at all. Communication is minimal. I was not notified when there were missing assignments or difficulties in class. Band teacher voiced no concerns when my child showed up late on a daily basis.

I absolutely LOVE this school. The teachers, Secretary, principal all love these kids. Teachers work hard with the kids and they succeed. We are PCSing this summer and I'm very sad to be leaving this school. We've been at Scott Elementary for 4 years. I HIGHLY recommend this school.

Let me start off by saying first I read the reviews prior to putting my special needs child in this school. We are military and pcs’d from California this summer (2017). We had a great school in California that catered to special needs children. I still decided to try this school and let me say that was the worst decision ever! The principal is rude and not understanding of special needs kids, especially kids that are on the spectrum. She picks and chooses what kid she wants to deal with. They do not like for parents to be involved. By involved I mean for parents to come up to the school and visit the classroom to make sure the child is doing great. The special education aids are wonderful and very sweet! It’s the principal who needs to be fired right away! She literally called us and told us that they didn’t have the services for our child.... Now this school is supposedly for special needs students as well. How can a principal pick and choose what child they want to have in their program? Discrimination right? We’ve never seen this before! We also have a close friend whose child was treated the same way but they were lucky enough to get orders out of here! I am currently homeschooling my child and he is receiving services at home as well and is loving every moment of it. BEWARE! If you have a SPECIAL NEEDS CHILD, DO NOT ATTEND HERE! This school only wants federal funding from the government! Yes, the school receives extra funds off of your child but they have fired many aids! So where are the funds going? I’ve heard testimonies from local people about this school but decided to try it anyway! Instead of trying to mold and transition the kids into a different environment, it’s like a daycare in the classroom. Take my advice and put your child in a different school district! If you do please be involved in your child’s schedule and visit often to make sure your child is receiving the education they need... ONCE AGAIN BEWARE! Also this is supposed to be an EFMP BASE! The school board needs to do a TOTAL evaluation for on their special needs program! They will also seclude your special needs child ! How cruel is that! READ the reviews and talk to local parents especially if you have a special needs child! The principal SUSANNE has no passion for kids! AT ALL! First time experiencing this with a school! GOD BLESS!

My son needed developmental help at his last school he had speech therapy and had alot of help with his needs when he started at Scott they automatically put him in ELL because he had a problems in Language Arts and Reading he doesn't even know Spanish and they put him in tutoring after I told them he is a special needs he needs something more then I took him to the Dr. Because his teacher said she was having trouble making making pay attention I was worried my son had ADD but she ruled it out as immaturity I took him out and send him back to Texas with his dad where there is a way better educational system.

Scott Elementary is a wonderful school. I am very pleased with the education and care the teachers and office staff have for our children. Recess Aids, Kitchen staff, custodians are great and all care about the children. This is a very diverse school and is acceptance of all race, gender, ethnic, religious background. I highly recommend this school to everyone.

I agree Scott Elementary is an institution not a school, where kids a processed not taught. Everything the leadership of the school does is not about giving an opportunity for the kids grow and develop, it's about controlling them and getting the "chores of the curriculum" done. Fun is taken out of everything, even lunch break is bleak. Furthermore, Scott Elementary is very military unfriendly - Actually, the whole district that serves the Base is that way actually. They don't seem to understand that military families have different needs compared to the local population. We were hoping this year would be better with a new principal and all but, no, same old same old. (The new principal was assistant principal to the old principal who was fired) So, we are trying to save enough money to go to private school next year....

Looking back at my working years at Scott Elementary I am so very proud to say that 98 % of the employees took a genuine interest in the daily activities of the children. Keep up the great work and remember those children will someday become parents and remember how they were treated. You can make a difference.

This place is a institution not an elementary school. An elementary school should be able to provide children with a wonderful introduction to school life. That does not happen here. The administration at this place is lacking. There are so many things that they could do better but lack the motivation to do the right thing. Send your child to another school.

My children have attended this school for the past 4 years. It just recently won a National Blue Ribbon Award for Academic Excellence. I have been so pleased with my children's education. In comparison to other schools they have attended in other states and countries, this school by far has superseded all of the others. I was privately educated myself so not a believer of public education, but seeing how my children have excelled both socially and academically (even one with special needs), I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this school and all its faculty.

My son who has Asperger's attend this school and they did not treat him well. They called me daily to come get him and when he acted up they locked in a padded room sometimes for a long time. Unacceptable. If you have special needs children...do not send them here.

It is beyond me how this school gets a 10 rating. As a military family, our children have attended a handful of schools. A few of the teachers are great and do their best, but for the most part this school fails in all areas. Office staff are unpleasant and unfriendly- it couldn't be more obvious its "just a job" to them. The school hasn't improved much if at all under the new principal. Insensitivity to the military lifestyle (effects on children), and as a parent you are unwelcome at the school. This school has more than adequate funding (since near an AFB), yet has the worst special education department we've experienced. They don't implement the least restrictive environment. If scores on standardized tests are just slightly low, those kids will get the help... the others are left behind for sure. We left this school for better.

We have been sending our three boys to SES for the past 6 months. Overall we have been very satisfied with the education our sons are receiving in their 4th, 3rd and PK classrooms. From our perspective of coming from another base school in CA, this far exceeds what they were receiving before. The new principal walked us through the registration process since we showed up during the district registration day and every time we are in the building she is extremely friendly and helpful. SES has dedicated PE, Music, and Art teachers; something that most schools are cutting due to financial problems. One of our sons has been able to "graduate" out of his IEP with the help of his Speech Therapist and his homeroom teacher has an open communication with me regarding his anxiety and any other concerns. We also use the bussing system available and have been extremely happy with the drivers and the staff overseeing the routes. SES also does a automated calling system that alerts parents to any school closures or important information that needs to go out which is helpful with the busy life of a military family.

We are new to SES this year and are very pleased so far! The new Administration (Principal and Superintendent) was very welcoming and accommodating as we registered over the summer and went above and beyond in answering our questions and addressing our concerns. Our son's teacher is very caring and thorough and took the extra step of asking our input on how to best interact/teach him (he is very shy and doesn't participate much in class). He is thriving. The PTO seems very active. We're looking forward to the next couple of years here.

This is my kids' 4th year at Scott Elementary School. I LOVE it! The principle that people are complaining about has retired and new administration, including super intendant, have been replaced! While the previous principle was a bit dismissive and seemingly less concerned with parental involvement, the teachers were still always amazing. This year's new principle has been a great improvement. I have loved and appreciated each of my kids' teachers and I am so pleased with the education that they are receiving. It is excellent. There is a reason that this school received a rating of 9/10. I can't speak for any special needs teachers because I haven't had experience with any. The Mascoutah school district, which Scott Elementary falls under is one of the top districts in the area. Family math or reading or physical fitness fun nights occur throughout the year too and the PTO does a fantastic job. All in all, I have no significant complaints about this school and I would highly recommend it. I know when we move, I'll be missing this school for my kids!

I took my children out of this school in November due to one of my children's teacher. She was not willing to work with my son who has autism. She kept on insisting 3rd grade was going to be to hard for him. He is a very smart little boy, and I was tired of the put downs by this teacher, as well as no support from the leadership in the school. This school was very good when the other principal was there, but she retired last year. Now the used to be Vice-Principal is in charge and she is a grown-up bully, and does nothing to help parents and their children to succeed. It is all about the test scores and getting their funding. I know of three other families who pulled their children with special needs out as well, due to the problems and lack of help from administration. Until the current pricipal is gone I do not recommend this school AT ALL! We are looking to move off base this summer into a better school district. It's a shame that military families are treated this way considering what our families have to endure with our spouses gone for months or years at a time fighting for our country. Shame on them!

Beware of the administration. They are ruining this school. We have heard wonderful things about New Baden and will be looking at rentals off base.

I have two children that attend Scott Elementary. I have never felt more unwelcome anywhere in my life as I feel walking into the school. Parents are not encouraged to be involved with their child's education.

While the teachers and support staff are wonderful, I cannot understand why the principal discourages parental involvement and consistently dismisses or ignores concerns. As a school with a high percentage of students whose parents are military, the unique needs of military families are constantly and blatantly disregarded.
