The school used to be good in the past but not anymore. Many good teachers left the school and new teachers are average. Their syllabus is good and an year ahead of public school. They make the tests difficult but do not help the student on how they can practice and learn better. They don’t encourage students for learning. Not happy with the school. Wish I sent my kid to public school and out in math and reading classes. That would have been better to succeed academically and save $.

Welcoming and very responsive! We went for school tour and believe me we can sense the vibes of happiness within the staff. Each kids going in lobby since was recess time was greeted well by staff. That gives first hand impression!

I feel this school may be slightly better than the area public school but still needs a lot of catching up to do. Listing out the pros and cons separatelyHere's the good stuff (pros):- Very friendly and disciplined environment, every staff member know the student and his/her parents in most cases.- Good communication between staff/teachers and parents - prompt response to questions - Good, safe and a courteous environment - no tolerance for bulling etc.- Students get two sets of text books. One for home one for use a school - Provides nominal to no cost extra curricular activities where participation is optional- Lastly, the school prepares, trains and provides an opportunity for the students of certain grade levels to perform on stage show once during the school yearHere are the cons:- Needs to have a curriculum to be more academically challenging. Should be at least one to two levels above public school. Core subjects level is below expectations for a private school- Needs to give "tests" not only based on the material covered during class but also develop the critical thinking aspect by asking questions that are challenging and pick on the young minds by asking their views and opinions on the subject matter or their views or thoughts in a particular scenario- Needs to have a music instrument option for the elective class Should offer keyboard, violin, flute etc- Should be consistent in giving a good amount of tests, assignments and adequate homework every week - Promote leadership, debate and public speaking skills to the audience - Start in the classroom - Teachers should let each student give a presentation to the class or come to the board to solve a problem- There is a hefty price for the books and ipad (rental only) cost that you have to pay, but for some reason the English literature books were not covered neither was the science fair project board- The school should partner with the parents and work as a team to better educate the child in areas the need improvement- Staff needs to be better prepared during Parent/Teacher orientation meetings where each information package is prepared appropriately for distribution to the parents- After school program has a overall poor rating. It's far from being a balanced approach where the students should creatively and actively spend their time doing homework + physical activity + fun arts & crafts or games with encouragement for "frequent toilet and water breaks"

My daughter has been going to Merryhill since the summer before JrK and we are very happy with the school. All the teachers we have had so far are excellent, and even the office staff are great. My daughter has a very energetic outgoing personality and this school with its culture of all-round development is a perfect fit for her. She loves going to school everyday ! Their focus on academics is pretty competitive, but at the same time they also have great extra-curricular opportunities for kids to pursue other interests like sports, music, theater, robotics, etc. The principal also organizes regular parenting workshops which are helpful. The communication from class teachers is organized, frequent and efficient. I am amazed at the progress my daughter made in reading and language arts in just one year. Though these are not her strong areas, the class teacher recognized the need to work with her a bit more, and did it. The school building and the grounds around it are pretty good, but as other reviewers pointed out, parking can be a challenge. We have made peace with that fact now and just plan ahead of time (especially during school events). I highly recommend this school to anyone looking for a positive, nurturing and holistic experience.

I want to thank Merryhill preschool (Corning Ave) teachers Miss Erika, Miss Rose and Miss Spring, Staff- Miss Darice and Headmaster - Miss Lucy. Hats off to the teachers for their dedication and patience in the classroom full of 2-3 years old kids. My 3 years old loves going to this school. She enjoys learning in the fun environment. They play, dance, sing, celebrate festivals, get creative with sand/paint/colors and learn basic concepts of Maths, English, Spanish and more. Teachers are friendly and approachable. They understand my concerns (as a parent) and help in resolving them. Feel lucky to have this school in the neighbourhood.

Its my last year here. The english program was low and I hear kids in high school are struggling in this subject. It is way to test driven. Every teacher has way to many favorites and kids they don't like. Kids didnt get the freedom they want. After this private school experience most kids go to public high schools. Or most leave before eight grade. Every kid over the age of ten going here hates it and would rather be at another school and they all feel miserable. The younger kids are given more importance and older kids are treated very unfairly. The school is way to small and has few facilities. Many teachers cannot teach else where. Overall the kids were great but outside of that I hated it. I wouldn't recommend it here. The only ages that should come here is from Pre School-3rd grade aged kids.

My son has been going to this school for over a year now. Just graduated 4th grade. He has the best teachers and the principal is amazing. Her attention and care is not something we have seen before. He has made so many friends and the learning environment is good for kids who need extra challenge. Now we have moved our daughter here also. And we are sure she will love the school as much as our son.

Merryhill School Milpitas, CA;The school is OK academically and the teachers are friendly and excited about teaching. If you have a special need for the handicapped parking, I suggest you reconsider. Many inconsiderate, healthy, able-bodied parents use the handicapped parking because they're just too lazy to walk an extra 20 yards. So far, although I've complained, I haven't see the school address it. During school performances, parents totally fill the fire zone making it a huge liability if there really was an emergency and the fire department needed to get in. They wouldn't be able to.

My daughter has been going to this school for past 3 years starting at junior K. I must say that she loves this school. Their curriculum and extra curricular activities are also good. The standard is much better than most public schools and at the same time, not as aggressive as other private schools like Stratford. I think its an excellent option of live in Milpitas and can afford the tuition fees.

My child have been at this school for over 8 years and I've seen ups and downs and changes in the total experience of the school. Because this is a private school, it has to be measured against a different set of standards not just that it's "better" than public school. If a parent is throwing out 10-12K+ a year to send a child here, the school has to deliver on a total educational experience that far exceeds that of a public school. From this perspective, Merryhill has only 1 advantage. A small and safe environment for your child. If your child is already a good to exceptional student this is a good fit. If not, don't expect the school or teachers to step up and help. You will have to get very very proactive to advocate for your child. They are not setup to respond when your child is struggling. You find out when grades are set, not when it matters. This is noticeable as you get to the higher grades. There are some bright spots in terms of teachers, but I find that most of the teachers have been there too long and their approach is about structure not creativity. It's like public school with a big price tag. If you can, go to Discovery Charter or Carden for Middle School.

We're sad to say our son s time at Merryhill is almost over as he starts kindergarten next year. His three years at Merryhill have been wonderful. Ms Debbie, Ms Deanna, Ms Stacie, Ms Stephanie and his principle Ms Sherry as well as all the other teachers who have helped along the way have been exceptional. As lesbian parents we were concerned about how a school would treat his different family but they have always made us feel completely comfortable. Every year his class has been very diverse and throughout the year they celebrate, learn about and are respectful to everyone s unique background and family beliefs. I can t say enough wonderful things about this school. We will deeply miss everyone in the Merryhill family we have become so close to. Thank you Merryhilll for loving and caring for our son like he was your own.
