Sauk Trail is an amazing elementary school! The principal and specials teachers greet the children every day when they walk in, and each child feels important. My son looks forward to school every day and has made great progress both socially and academically. I would highly recommend this school!

We were not sure about the school at first, but had heard great things. Our kids have been going there since kindergarten (now 4th and 2nd graders) and we couldn't be happier!!!!! The teachers are excellent, the support staff caring and the principal is outstanding. They spend a lot of time promoting kindness and compassion to one another. The school is diverse with a large population of ELL kids, which we love. There is a real sense of community here; it's not just a soulless educational factory "teaching to the test". The class sizes are small and there are many para-educators to help the teachers out. The parent population is active and there are TONS of after school clubs, lead by the teachers (chess, knitting, games, computer programming, & science to name a few). There are also many evening family events throughout the year (math games night, science night, dances, etc.) The staff are very good at differentiating higher achievers, either through more challenging work in the classroom or accelerating student learning to the next grade level.

I couldn't be happier with our first school year. Fantastic teacher, fantastic place, great support, and so many options to be involved.

I have been so impressed by Sauk Trail Elementary. The class sizes are quite small (my son's first grade class has 14 students). The classroom is equipped with a smart board. The teachers have all been so kind and open to parent involvement. The principal actively greets the children at the start of the school day and knows them each by name. We have been so thankful to be within Sauk Trail's boundaries.

My child has been going to Sauk Trail for 3 years. In kindergarten, my child was struggling with reading & I was told by the teacher that, "because there are so many children in my class who don't have a parent at home that speaks English, I'm spending a lot of my time with them, so I need you to spend more time at home with your child on reading as he/she is not where we need him/her to be". Upsetting, to say the least! Two years later, my child is again struggling with reading. My child is working with a reading specialist every day at school, yet he/she is still significantly behind where he/she should be at this point. My child has now been recommended for summer school, which is from 8 - 11 am four days per week ... not exactly a schedule that works for parents who are employed full-time. When I asked his/her teacher & reading specialist to provide me with a list of tutors I could hire to help my child, they were unable to do so! Simply UNACCEPTABLE!! It turns out there are two tutoring establishments within walking distance of this school ... one of which provides one-on-one private tutoring AFTER school hours! Yet the teachers didn't know of this resource? UNACCEPTABLE

In 1st grade my daughter was in a class of 13 students, several primarily Spanish speaking, because her teacher was the only bilingual 1st-grade teacher in the school. As a result, my daughter learned a great deal of Spanish just by being in the class. My son's kindergarten class had 22 students and 2 teachers. Sometimes they split the class into smaller groups and sometimes taught as a whole. It was a unique and very beneficial experience. Parents are very involved with the school, teachers are excellent, the principal is always happy to talking with parents, the entire school staff is just wonderful. This is how Middleton has earned it's reputation as being one of the best school systems in Wisconsin.
