Walbridge is Madison's hidden gem of a school. Our daughter has thrived in its small, caring environment and its affirmative academic community. Yet it's a mistake to think of Walbridge only as a "special ed" school. Most of its students attend because they have struggled in traditional schools, but those struggles have not been solely academic or developmental. Fundamentally, Walbridge challenges the norms that govern the rest of schooling: why should kids be grouped by age? Why does it make sense to put kids in with hundreds of other students? Walbridge is a multi-grade community of learners and offers each student work that is truly tailored to their individual needs and abilities. Many schools make similar claims, but Walbridge means it.

I recommend Walbridge School. My daughter was a struggling reader when she started at Walbridge four years ago. She did not want to go to school and was not able to do her own homework. With small class size and the individualized support that my daughter has received at Walbridge, she now reads for pleasure, does her homework on her own, and is happy to go to school. We appreciate and highly recommend the entire staff at Walbridge School
