My older son is in the middle of his Kindergarten year here and he loves Sheridan! This is a great school that encourages parents to volunteer and provides plenty of opportunities for parents to be involved with their children's school lives. I have personally volunteered at the library and my husband is a member of the Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students). I love that I can see how the school works and how my child's day unfolds. The teachers are caring and the principal Ms. Guidry is very involved. Someone said this is a "bad area," but that is inaccurate. I live in the neighborhood directly adjacent to the school and it is a nice neighborhood with diverse, working class, home-owning families. I love to see the support of such a wide array of parents who attend special school events for their kids. I also love the fact that my kiddo gets to attend school with so many people and family structures that are different from him/his. Sheridan gives him a valuable social education as well as excellent academic training. Thank you, Sheridan!

My son completed Kindergarten last year and I was beyond impressed. His teacher enhanced his love for learning and was nothing but encouraging. I actually appreciated the distance she held between students and parents and was happy that she did not feel the need to comment on every single incident. This taught my son how to problem solve and presented him the opportunity to tell me if there was an issue at school himself. I am looking forward to a great first grade.

4th grade teacher wasn't very good. Child sent to the nurse but patent wasn't notified. Child bullied at school & parent wasn't notified. My child had to tell me about it & eventually the bully was removed from the class after bullying multiple children. Teachers & staff after school repeatedly attempt to put children into the wrong cars even though the cars have numbers hanging in the windshield. Not much homework at all. No textbooks are sent home. No vocabulary words to study. Not much work in general. Less the teachers have to do I guess. Surprised the school received a 7. A 5 or lower would be more realistic. If a good education is not a priority for your child then this is the school for you.

Based on my experience with this school for the past year, It is not staffed or equipped to handle children with learning difficulties, nor do they address bullying that occurs in an efficient manner. My child has been sent to the nurses office multiple times as he was pushed down, tripped or kicked by the same kid several times. Administration has not addressed my continual requests for tutoring or evaluation of my child. The teachers are nice and polite enough but I feel it may not be a good fit for us in general. Many of the events at the school are somewhat disorganized and disappointing. This school has been highly rated academically so perhaps that means the teachers are doing an excellent job at teaching to the standardized tests.

Sheridan Elementary has wonderful and caring teachers that go out of their way to make sure students are successful. It is well organized and works to accommodate the parents. There are rules but that is part of what makes it a great school. Kids learn and have fun at school. It is the best school around!

My Sheridan is AMAZING!!! My son requires his teachers to have a bit more patience than the average kid. He also requires that his teachers really try to understand him. Without this understanding, he can be labeled "defiant" and "one who refuses to do his work." His Sheridan teachers are incredible. They support him, encourage him, test his limits & then help him get past his own limits. They provide the structure & discipline he craves and needs and they balance it so well with a reward system. He feels valued, supported, and loved at Sheridan. Sheridan has provided my son with the most amazing school experience & I wish this for EVERY child! The biggest kudos go to Ms. Silva, Ms. King, Ms. Thibeaux, Ms. Smyth, & Ms. Albarron!!! And of course the amazing leadership of Mrs. Guidry & the 2 vice principals cause none of my son's positive experience would be happening without them backing up his main teacher. LOVE YOU SHERIDAN!!!

I have never had an issue with any of the staff. My child has been a problem child at school and the administration has always gone above and beyond to work with my child and my family. The only thing I do not like is all of the extra activities at the school. Being a busy parent like I am sure we all are, it is difficult for me to make it to all the school functions, and it always disappoints my child. I hate to miss anything because I always want the teachers to know that I care. I wish that they had 2 open houses and only 2 extra parent/family nights. Its never that I do not want to go, its just that sometimes I can not go. This is a good school, however it is in a bad area, and I hope that they start enforcing no bullying rules.
