This school seems to put sports and activities ahead of learning. My daughter is not challenged by any teachers, never has any homework and somehow walks away easily with all A's. Even in the areas she struggles in such as English, she walks away with easy A's and I have to put in the extra effort at home to review the areas she needs help with. I'm extremely tired of teachers handing out good grades to make the school look better but not putting in any effort to actually teach our children and give out the grades they actually deserve. The Interior Design class was a joke. I don't send my child to school to watch reruns of design shows seen on HGTV all day every day like she did in the Interior Design class. This class was a complete joke and everyone in there knows it's a blow off class where everyone gets an A. Start finding quality teachers who actually make their students work hard to earn a good grades not just give them out cause their too lazy to grade papers.

This school has been an exemplary place of learning for both of my children. The teachers have encouraged and built into their futures, helping and directing toward college. The older student is now a junior in college and still keeps in touch with many of her teachers. As a previous home schooler, I have been very happy with the results gained at this school. Well done!

This school is good if you want to be bullied and harassed day in and day out. Worst school district.

This is one of the worst schools I have ever encountered. Children are just passed onto the next grade, even when grades are not earned. The community is more concerned about a football score than if the children are going to actually become something one day. Driver's Ed is given to students who are failing other classes, when the student has over 30 absences, truancy is not called. If you are an out of district parent due to divorce, the staff will not give you the time of day.

The Illinois State Board of Education placed Johnsburg School District on the state's 2015 financial watch list. Since only 38 of the state's 860 school districts were named to this list, that places Johnsburg in the bottom 5% of school districts with the worst financial health in Illinois(www.isbe.net/sfms/p/2015-fin-profile-based-on-14-data.pdf). I've noticed the quality of the teaching staff has declined significantly. Most teachers are there because it's a job and they need to gain work experience before moving on to a better school. Some electives have been cut recently, and due to the school's enrollment size most electives are only offered one period a day. My kids have had to drop classes due to scheduling conflicts. The small school appeal translates to limited opportunities. Do your research before moving to this district. There are much, MUCH better schools in the area. Would I recommend sending your kids to JHS or even living in Johnsburg? NO.

My daughter's cumulative GPA when graduating 8th grade is 4.0. Her test scores for science on the ISAT exceeded standards but we were told there is not enough room in the labs for more than 24 students in the honors biology class and the school is too small to have two sections. She had straight A's in advanced language for 8th grade, but still was not allowed to register for honors English 1. The 8th grade class scheduled offered two advanced language classes, but high school only offers 1 honors section for freshman. Needless to say, we are looking for other options for our daughter. The district either needs to commit to using text books and purchase enough for all students or the district needs to teach students how to use online books. I have noted the district is using neither. Lost of notes and handouts. How will my daughter learn how to use a book to study for college? They need to teach proper study skills and getting ready for college.

Poor state test scores, college readiness is below average as students are not passing entrance exams for math and english. The excellent teachers come for a year and then go elsewhere while the tenured teachers that arent teaching stay. No advanced class or computerized class like other area schools provide. Lack of extracurricular for students. A new principal is needed!

I was oversold by the realtor on how well the grade schools and high school were. After moving from another small school in Wisconsin, I had a choice on this small district or one much closer to Chicago. Boy, did I screw up in thinking a smaller district would be more attuned to by son and daughters. My older son was taken aback by how permissive the teachers were towards athletes caught drinking - minimal reprimands, especially if they were starters on football or basketball. The peer pressure is to make fun of those with special needs or gay kids, not embrace them. My daughter came in with top notch grades from their junior high in math and science and was surprised that 9th grade pretty much repeated what she had in 8th grade (keep in mind she excelled at the jr.High due to her learning pretty much what they taught in her former 5th/6th grade class in Wisconsin). Some of the teachers care, but so many of the older ones seemed more intent on t/f and multiple choice tests, great for preparing your kids for college. Do your research - I wish I had.

Johnsburg High School cares about the students and their success! For a small school, your student will have a lot of opportunities to shine!

Johnsburg High School is a school that is unique. You have a school that was on the verge of going from a small school to a medium school before the housing bubble popped. Classes are still small but all classes seem to blend well together. There is not much segregation between Freshman through Seniors. Are sports teams will be improving with going back to a conference that reflects more schools our size versus the larger Fox Valley schools. I think it says a lot that a lot of the teachers that teach are returning alumni that want the children to improve but also want and try to make the school improve with limited funds a small town can provide. However, with it being a small school just understand it is always hard to keep secrets and the kids learn quickly that everyone knows what is going on with your kids which can be good and bad because yes they know what is going on with your kid the community really tries to help all kids to and lift them up.

Very poor extracurriculars. Take a look at the website and compare honor activities/clubs/fine arts with the athletics. Bullying still runs wild-consider why the Homecoming queen was elected. 'Nuff said.
