Amazing staff and teachers. Mrs Williams 2nd/3rd grade teacher is phenomenal.

My son is a current student and had an incident where a child has actively been bullying him and on Halloween a kid stabbed him and multiple other children with a fake knife. Nothing was done about it. This school doesn’t care about the kids or families. It’s a complete joke.

This school has been renovated and is a very nice home like feeling school. All the staff seem to get to know all students not only by face but their names also. Staff is wonderful and seem to work well to make the school even better. I like the fact the school is small but well staffed. Even through tough times with covid, they did their very best to not leave any child behind. Only con I feel is that if you have a child is mild to moderate special needs they are great but if your child is high on the disability chart then they are not staffed to accommodate that within the district and your child will have to work within SEDOL system. I have one child that is fine and one that is high on the special needs chart and I recommend parents to look around for other school besides just SEDOL like connections academy east and take the time to tour and see where your child will fit best. We did this and Gavin was willing to accommodate and went the extra step to make sure we were happy as parents with the placement decision. They took care of it all including transportation needs and did the best job they could to get my child back to their home district as soon as they felt ready. Grant HS has a great special needs program so you have no worries if you want your child to go to their home high school. Gavin Central felt like home and my children hated to move on to middle school but south is just as good with a great principle. I love that all staff within the Gavin district seem to be long term staff members so happy teachers equal happy students then happy parents. If you are looking for a great small community like school district then this is it...you have found it.

We have had all ages of students attend Gavin Central and have been very impressed with the entire school system. So happy we moved here and our children get to grow up within this system!

Great school they helped my daughters excel. We moved here from Morton Grove. They were ignoring mu daughters needs and did nothing about providing her extra help with math. We have lived in Morton Grove, Kenilworth, Glencoe, North barrington heights, Lake Forrest and in Golf. Fox lake has been the most peaceful, cooperative, understanding, careing, honest of all the school districts. The other districts keep their ratings high by quickly labeling children as ESL, Disabled, Learning impaired and extra. Their wealthy and are afraid of lower property tax revenues from lower exam scores. By having almost 77% of childrens exams exmpted from impacting their schools ratings by placing a lifetime label on a child is determental. Chicago public schools only have 3% of children labeled yet 35% of all students are immigrants. Go wonder, Learn not to trust all ratings. Fox lake has only 1% of all children exempt from testing whereas some wealthier areas have almost 80%. Based on those results Fox Lake is hands down way better vand accurate.

I feel this way because of my son's second grade teacher, Mrs. Williams. She goes above and beyond to ensure every child has an opportunity to learn each topic in order to prepare them for the next grade. She goes the extra step to ensure the children are doing more than just the required amount, setting them up for success in the years to come. I don't know how she does it but she gives that special care that seems to be missing in so many teachers today. Thank you Mrs. Williams.

good morning, If your gonna send your child to Gavin, maybe you should think hard about doing so.. The teachers are truly not what you think. My child had medical problems threw all the middle school yrs.And was picked on by the teacher during each yr she was there. Every day my child would come home upset. and tell me she didn't want to go bk there.I called the principal and the teacher her self.. no change. I will be calling the board of education. At the end of the yr this teacher had the nerve to try and say sorry for being mean.. admitted to my child that she had been awful to her in the last 3 yrs while she was there at Gavin. Who does this to a child ... and these adults are teaching our children.. terrible..

To sum up my with Gavin Central and not get long winded I will just state that there is an air of tolerance inside the school about bullying. So far I have had to: Call the Principal (several times, futile waste of time), call the Director for the buses (several times, futile waste of time), went through two different Vice Principals in two years, and have had to file a police report! The teachers are hit or miss, some of them are awesome, some go to work to get a paycheck. It's too bad that I bought an awesome house in the area, I will be doing everything in my power to get rezoned.

My child is attending first grade at Gavin Central. I'm upset because there is a great LACK in communication between the teachers and parents. I want to play an active role in my child's education and since she has attended this school I feel I'm not able to do that. I want to be involved, come into the class, observe occasionally, help out in the room and I'm not able to do that. I've mentioned this to the teacher several times and I get no where with her. Its very frustrating. We may just consider moving to get her into a different school once this year is over. This is not what I was expecting from this school at all.

Gavin is an EXCELLENT school. My son has learned so much in 1st grade that I made sure when we moved , that we stayed in Gavin district. The teachers pay attention to the needs of each child. I knew my son would need speech class, but I didnt mention it to them because I wanted to see if they noticed on their own, and they not only noticed, but set up speech for him and said they want to do all they can for him. I was very impressed. The communication with the teacher is wonderful. The school staff is so friendly and caring. I would highly recommend Gavin to everyone!

I have a special needs child and I feel the school does an excellent job! The teachers and staff are wonderful and they do a great job at helping the kids learn in different ways. They give discipline when needed and positive feedback too! Many teachers have been there for 20-25 years. Remember it takes good communication with the teachers to help your child succeed, you can't put the blame on teachers. I highly recommend this school.
