This school was wonderful until the newest principal was hired. She came in and changed everything, adding tons of unnecessary rules just because she clearly had issues with control. My children have gone here for years and we are now considering moving simply to get away from the tyrant. She even took away their ability to play with friends at recess and has segregated them by class at different "stations" during recess. They can no longer maintain previous friendships with classmates with different teachers. Pathetic.

The teachers and administrators can't or won't control the students' behavior. I think the problem is mostly in the parenting of the people who live in the school district to be honest. The people who work at the school have their hands tied mostly because of political correctness. Bullying and violence are rampant, and there is an email about "inappropriate items" being found in the school almost weekly. I cannot confirm this, but I have a suspicion based on evidence that the teachers are not doing much besides handing out worksheets and making sarcastic, negative remarks to the students.

Systemic Racism, awful food, bullying, terrible schedules, and an unreliable admin who can't care less about changing anything for the better. If it weren't for these great teachers (which most of them are leaving), this school would not keep any students for more than a week before they were taken out by their parents.

My child lasted a full ten days here before I removed him. From bullying from the other kids (spitting in his lunch food, being called “white boy” daily) to bullying from the teacher (posting about him on her personal Facebook page, refusing to let him go out for recess, and constantly making excuses for the other children when they would bully. It was pure craziness. I’ve heard from several other parents that the teacher is so lazy she just hands the students stacks of paperwork daily with no hands on interaction and then punishes them for not finishing by not taking them time to get up and take them outside, because she’s too lazy to do it. I can totally see why this school has one of the lowest test score ratings around. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t send my dog to this place!

Mount carmel is an excellent school. Strict on policy and safety of the children which is a good thing because you know your children are safe. My son attended mount carmel grades 2 thru 5 and he was readily prepared for middle school. My daughter has attended since kindergarten and now finishing 2nd grade in the tagged/gifted program and she has done exceptionally well. Excellent school choice and area.
