So grateful for the principle at this school. You can really see the significant changes that he has made.

Hampton High School has a lot of issues, mostly pertaining to administrative staff and counselors. Counselors are notorious for not answering e-mails, being behind on schedule changes, and generally being very apathetic to student issues. Administration tends to not work with students and sometimes even be actively harmful with its policies regarding cell phones and student dress codes. Class sizes are huge if you're not in an Honors class, while some teachers are absolutely incredible; others could not be less engaged with their curriculum. The school goes through regular schedule changes on an individual and overall school level, I have experienced an overall schedule change a minimum of twice a year. Afterschool activities are definitely engaged with by students but tend not to be actively supported financially unless it's a sport. Clubs are again neglected by staff but are very engaging and fun. The school's fine arts program is wonderful but rarely gets any attention, like its honors and AP program. Honors and AP students who are performing well are rarely recognized or given accolades by the school itself aside from the end of the year. The school offers plenty of learning options like the academy for advanced studies, dual enrollment, online learning, work study, and certain CTAE courses. I've found these specialty courses to be very well-liked and helpful for students in choosing careers or advancing their overall education. They have decent accommodations for online learners and handled COVID-19 relatively well, other than enforcing their mask policy. I received very minimal help when looking for colleges to attend or in regard to receiving scholarships. I worry about the student body's relationship to their LGBTQ+ peers, a chunk of the school seems to be at a minimum transphobic and rude to gay & lesbian students, this applies to some teachers and staff members as well.

The school has no emphasis on academics or structure. As a senior and this year being my first year year, I was immediately disappointed with the faculty of the school and how they provide no structure for students. Because of this, students have all the freedom to do what they want and end up getting no work done. Faculty then blames students for abusing the power THEY gave the kids here. The school needs more rules and guidance to help kids be more successful for there future. I am glad some administration is leaving this year because the way the school is structured is disorganized. Hampton teachers also lack the passion and genuine interest in students they need in order for students to be successful. Most teachers I've had here (all but one) have been more interested in chatting with the teacher next door or down the hall instead of actually following curriculum so kids can succeed on tests. This is a social school where kids who really want to succeed must improve themselves independently because very few teachers here are interested in putting in the work for students to succeed. Sure, this school is new and big on technology, but it would be best to send your student to a school that actually focuses on academics.
