Students and parents are very cliquey, and teachers follow this social direction. I found the principal to be a glad handler and the PTO keeps his 'family jewels' in their purses. More emphasis placed on which parents are friends and less on academics. For the price of living here, the education should be better, shouldn't it? I also found that many students lack manners and empathy, instead being pushed to be number one no matter what it takes. If you are looking for strong academics and integrity, look elsewhere.

The best school for my child, intimate, caring

I was shocked to see a 5 star rating for this school. Perhaps the technology, math instruction and other course materials actually deserve recognition. However, the parent/student culture is shocking! I agree with the comment made from two years ago. The parent are indeed catty and their rude behavior is nothing short of a primitive lifestyle that should be outlawed or at least called out. Never again! Others beware! Glencoe schools are not worth the money.

All three of our sons attended West School for 3rd and 4th. All had a great experience.

The parent posting on Sep. 2, 2013 is by far the most accurate of any review I have read about West School. Exactly what I would have said. Central School is another story ( grades 5-8). A LOT of work needed there especially in the math departments. If you want your kids to get a really good foundation in math, hire an outside tutor or go to a different school. I am thinking of pulling my kids out for that reason. Not to mention their rankings continue to drop

There was a lot of support for my older son at West to enable academic success. Only 21-22 in his class and we were very happy with his 3rd and 4th grade teachers. Principal is top notch and teachers make great efforts to expect everyone to perform their best, have appropriate social skills and enforce a "no bully" policy. However the lunchroom, playground and bus are fair game and unmonitored. Unfortunately too many clicks among kids/parents in this area are counter productive to school efforts. PTO committee chairs play favorites with their kids and those of same religion. Be on the "in crowd" or don't plan to be called on when you volunteer or plan on your kid to be included (playmates, carpools, parties). Many overachieving parents in this area, so expectations are high, but people are catty. School is very clean, updated and technology supported.

We moved to Glencoe after the winter break and cannot have been happier with the transition and the support we received from the schools. The principal took time to sit down with me (mom) and talk through their procedures/policies. They arranged a half day for my son to visit before the transition and meet children and the teachers were available whenever I needed to reach them. We couldn't be happier with the school and teachers!

Top notch educators, administration and parent involvement makes this school wonderful. The district provides excellent technology and adequate training for its teachers. Students are exposed to a great amount of real world learning.

West School is amazing in so many ways. It teaches you so much. I love it. The new technology is great. The kids are so nice and same with the teachers. The down things are it is kind of hard when it comes to tests.
