some the kids at this school are very materialistic, there are a few groups of nice kids but bullying happens alot. i am in 8th grade and i see people struggling every day and the kids can be very nasty. i have a very good group of friends but the majority of kids can be mean. i like the academics and teachers are very good. overall i have had a good experience

While I'm sure there is room for improvement, and I'm sorry to hear that some students are struggling at Central, I have to disagree with the comments about Central having a weak math program. We've had two kids go through Central, one was naturally good in math - went on to do well in math at highly competitive New Trier High School. The other child had some learning issues, we took advantage of 'math assist,' 'study skills,' and the time that the math teachers give before and after school Our 'special needs' student ended up getting into 'honors' (3rd) level math at New Trier, based on end of 8th grade test performance - which was compared to students from other New Trier feeder schools - such as Wilmette and Winnetka.

5 star rating is too high for this school. Math instruction is weak. If you send your kid there you might want to have an outside tutor at the ready before they have to test for the high school and get surprised that they are testing too low to be placed into a regular class vs. remedial. Catches lots of parents off guard. Cliques rule-- if you are "not from Glencoe" dont expect to fit in anywhere -- parents or kids. If you are not in the majority religion dont expect to fit in. All true.
