Do not send your child to Safe Haven. My child went in with severe self-esteem issues due to bullying at his previous school. At Safe Haven, their approach was to demean and belittle my child, while refusing to adhere to their IEP. Everyone at the school was incredibly understanding during the admissions process and then changed completely once my child was admitted. After bringing up our concerns, the principal refused to address anything, took no blame, and recommended we look for other schools. They are now located in Lake Bluff, despite GreatSchools listing the previous Location. Avoid this school at all costs.

I would not send my child here, after reading the reviews. The environment needs alot of work.

My experience with safe haven was horrible. My child was a student here for awhile, and has nothing but negative comments towards the school. There were many issues with how the head would deal with issues, and the person who dealt with school issues was very rude and pushy. Instead of dealing with the problem, the head would give the same response and blame it on the student rather than addressing the problem. As example, there were times where multiple students experienced situations from peers or adults (that weren't your typical 'I just don't like them' scenario) and when the heads were told, they would once again say they needed to deal with it. Some staff would 'pick favorites' and, even when another was at fault, they would once again blame the one who they didn't favor. At a point, a student expressed how they felt unsafe, and was told they were lying/acting it up. Not all staff was bad, thankfully, but even if they wanted to help, they werent allowed to do anything, simply leaving those with a "it will be sorted out" and nothing else. Going back to one of the heads of the school, quite a few students felt she was somewhat harsh. A good example is when a student took a break from a physical activity and had been crying. She (the head) only gave the student 1 and a half minutes to recover. Even though the student hadn't stopped crying, she would send them back where they all they would do is stand there and cry, embarrassed as all the other kids could see. The didn't let the student see a therapist, but simply gave them the option to go into the game or have a meeting with their parent. Some students who transitioned would come back, and therapists were overworked. They did not stick to their therapy schedule, and when that happened they said they would reschedule but it never was. The therapy groups switched often, and were supposed to be once a week, instead they were usually once a month. As for individual therapy, there would be weeks when a student didn't receive any, even though they said they had. This school does not seem to offer the right amount of therapy for a child who requires to be in a therapeutic school for those who don't act out. I've noticed some reviews were payed for, or are at least by people who get payed to make good reviews; Please take them with a grain of salt.
