Great school meets all my needs and more

I was bullied most of the time and the faculty didn't do anything about it no matter how much I asked. A few teachers were nice but most have no idea how to teach. There is a huge drug problem there. I'm disappointed I stayed there for three years.

My daughter attended Northbrook Junior High (NBJH), she is now at Glenbrook High School. Compared with other junior high schools in the area, NBJH lagged significantly in culture, executive functions, and academic perspective. They didn’t prepare students for high school and living a productive life in general during this crucial age in their development.1. Bullying was a huge issue and the school didn’t take adequate action to address that2. The school failed to help students develop executive function skills, including no expectations on students completing homework3. Results from standard testing under performed comes to other junior high schools in the area. There are some great teachers, most teachers were just ok, the art teacher was very uninspiring.Had I known this before my daughter entered NBJH, we would have moved to a different school district.

ive got to admit the principal is pretty nice, though i feel like he and the teachers don’t care that much about bullying or how students feel.there was this teacher that would always pressurize me into talking and it would make me feel so uncomfortable, and i get that she was trying to make me talk more so i could feel confident. but it just made me a lot more stressed.there were also a few teachers who would yell at us a lot and wouldn’t care what we did.but i feel like bullying is the main thing i hated about this school because i could feel as though i didn’t even exist on some days (being excluded) and other days i could feel like everyone was staring and hating on me. i was bullied as much as other children, and i certainly did have a few friends, though i wish the grown ups at the school could even try to care about our problems.i get why it got 8/10 because we do learn a lot in the school though i think your child’s experience matters more.

I have 2 son's attending NBJH and their experiences have been exceptional. The teachers are truly vested in the success of the students and the administration goes out of it's way to promote an environment of inclusion. My kids are in 6th/7th so I have not heard of any issues with alcohol to date from them or any of their friends. The music program is extraordinary as well as their theatre program. There are also many additional services within the school and district for kids with additional needs in academics or other areas. The teachers go out of their way to communicate with the parents to highlight struggling areas for the kids as well as areas where they excel. I can't say enough good things about the school. Exceptional!

WOW... Had to review because of March 27, 2015 review... My 13 year old goes there and i have asked her about drugs and alcohol.. There has been drinking at bar and bath mitzvahs.. But that is all she knows of. Of course she is not in that crowd... The music program is probably one of the top in the country. They just received the National Music Education Award. Second year in a row they received Best Communities for Education from the NAMM Foundation. Math is awesome too! Probably the best school I know of....

Drugs problem have been reported in Northbrook Junior High School. Their advanced math program consist of sending the kids to High School classes and there musical program is very weak.

Great students, teachers and administrators in this school district. It is a surreal experience when you walk into the building because everyone plays a critical role in the success of the district as a whole. The curriculum and teachers have always challenged my kids (3) and continue to innovate and lead with new technology.
