Really great school with so many interests and clubs for your kid. I'm blown away I hadn't heard more about this school before we attended. Music recording, coding, theatre arts, all the clubs you can imagine, foreign languages! All teachers can reach EV or AIG. Small class sizes which allows the staff to really get to know your kid. It's a phenomenal school!

The staff here works so hard to pro.ote confidence and leadership in these kids. My EC kiddo is a different person since she's been going here. She's really come into her own. She finally has friends and confidence. She's excited for school. She went from begging to not go last year, to begging to never be late. She loves it. She loves her teachers, her principal... Just everything. They have a lot of events to keep the whole family engaged. I can't say enough about this school.

The school has built a rep of being very rowdy, however, its very easy to avoid conflict in this school. In spite of how small the school is its very easy to find a community that you fit into.

This school is great at taking care of their students safety. The school to me isn't what I look for but, its great for other students. Year-round school aren't for me, I love normal year school. If you like year-round school that your opinion. They don't have sports that you would like to be in. The classwork for classes are easy, and the schedules are great if you have work after school without stressing over both!

As such a small school, it has a very close knit community. Each grade level is only about 100 students, so it is easy to socialize and make friends. It is easy to find your way to your classes. The school also operates on a year-round schedule, meaning 3 weeks of intercession at the end of every quarter. This is plenty of time to go on a vacation or for students to have fun during break. Our school currently is both a middle and high school, serving grades 6-12. We have exciting events like spirit week and honor roll celebrations.

i like this school because it is year round and the school end days at 3:20 pm. I also like that students get intersession.

This school is not the place to be. I came to this school thinking it was open and thinking I could be myself here. I was so wrong. Not only do the students bully and degrade you for being part of the LGBT, the teachers refuse to call you by your chosen name or pronouns. Along with this a few of my friends have been sexually assaulted or sexually harassed here, along with me. I was sexually harassed here and the staff did nothing. They didn’t do anything when my friends were assaulted. They stood by and basically said: “Boys Will Be Boys.” If you want to suffer from trauma and serious mental health issues, come here. If not, run as far as you can.

the school is not a good choice especially if your on the autism spectrum im supposed to be getting work with a class i failed last year and im not getting the help i need from the teachers and the tutoring is mixed signals, one half says i dont need to sign up but the other says i have to sign up and some teachers are straight up unaware how to help some students who have autism, parents of durham if your thinking of taking your child with autism here please reconsider

Absolutely horrible. When requesting different classes because I need the credits, I was emailed by an administrator who flat out told me she wouldn't help me. This same administrator simply told me to not talk about it when a student two grades above me got violent after bullying me all year and waited for said student to graduate instead of doing anything about it. Almost all of the teachers are incapable of teaching accurate information and are more than willing to jump on students that try to help their peers understand the curriculum. Other teachers get way too personal, even going so far as to ask you for relationship advice and make you help them get dressed. If you ever try to voice your opinion, no matter how respectfully you do it or how much it would help you, your teacher, your classmates, or even your school as a whole, your grades will be docked and they will do their very best to have you punished. I've had a teacher put her hands on me, blame my upbringing (which she knew nothing about) for how I disrespected her (she interrupted my conversation and got in my face when I didn't respond), tell me that speaking to me is "like slamming [her] head against a brick wall", and any time I try to ask her a question she either completely ignores me or yells over me. Every attempt to remedy this has been met with "I'll have a talk with her". I have no idea if that talk has happened or not but nothing has changed. It doesn't matter if you are a good student, if you do your work, if you are respectful, if you follow the rules, no matter what you do, you and your physical and mental health will suffer at SCS.

This is the best school in Durham! The principal, Ms Price is fully engaged with the students, greeting them by name at the front door as they begin their day. Ms Hundredmark is exceptional as a vice principal as an active force that has the children s best interests at heart. The teachers my son has had have made me believe that they are primarily here because they care about learning. The support staff is equally brilliant, Mr. Boston or Jennifer or Marion are the best! I truly can t recommend this school enough, by the way my son is an EC student with an IEP.
