This is the best school ever! The teachers are amazing and they care so much about the students! I have had such a good experience at this school and I would recommend this school to anyone! The school challenges kids who need it and helps kids who need it. I love this school!

My child had a great experience at voyager elementary. He shined. He felt loved, happy and safe. At middle school, that all changed. He still felt safe and had plenty of friends, but the kids were out of control. The teachers didn't have enough structure, or maybe it was just that the kids were too much for them - but either way, the teachers couldn't control the kids. My take was that a good portion of the kids have parents who either a) are not able to set boundaries and rules for them for whatever sad reason, or b) their parents did not care and did not parent effectively. I felt the teachers were trying, but they were up against too much. Kids who got caught breaking rules were back at it the next week again. Academics were so-so. Enough parents were involved. The language my child learned from 4th grade on (because that is when middle school at Voyager starts) was horrific. I'm not talking about curse words, that is a given at this age and to be expected, even normal. No, I'm talking about every kind of vulgar, disgusting thing you can think of being discussed casually by 5th graders. The texts I saw from other children were deeply disturbing, and I'm no prude. Multiple kids would call my child all night long on weekends. He would wake up to missed face time calls from groups of kids at 3 and 4am on a regular basis, wanting to talk and play video games literally all night. These kids were 10. It felt like other parents had given up. Racism? My child had several friends at school whose families were openly racist at home. When I would read his texts, I read racist slurs thrown in people's faces (from kids of all races). The kids seemed to normalize it, from what I gathered. You get the point.Several incidents left me feeling like the school couldn't effectively teach, because of the kids inability to focus and follow instruction. I don't know where the Voyager middle school gets its' supposedly good reputation.I can't speak about Voyager high school since we left before high school started, but it did not look promising. I didn't want my son normalizing that type of life - anymore than he already did. We left.

Too much bullying and nothing being done.

I love this school so much. I struggle very badly with anxiety and I know some of my friends do as well, and this school showed me actual solutions and helped me get through tough times. I graduated this year, Im sad my experience here is over because it truly impacted my life in such a great way and I am prepared for college. Voyager is a great school. They care about mental health, they care about education and community. Truly amazing.

I went to this school from 1st grade through 8th grade. As a high school junior now, looking back, it was genuinely one of the worst experiences of my life. Bullying is rampant and unacknowledged, racial divides are serious and ignored, and the academics past around 2nd grade are horrendous. I moved to a public school and my experience, both academically and emotionally, has been leagues better. Voyager is a cash-grab, crappy education- take it from someone who's seen both sides.

This school has been very draining for me. It all started once I reached middle school, I encountered careless teachers that did not know how to touch a kids heart at all. I saw a 8th grade teacher picking fun at a special ed kid. Overall it’s an awful school, I’ve never been so drained from education like this school. Many of my friends hate this school aswell. At this school I’ve never been able to fit in. There is only 2 groups in this school. It’s separated by race, you have the white/Asian/Spanish in one group then the African American/black. I don’t like that at all, this school has done nothing about it. They don’t care about any of the students mental health, none of the teachers know how to touch a kids heart. It’s most likely lack of experience. Student athletes at this school are always overwhelmed by the amount of work and expectations the school puts on them. It’s overall not a great school to attend.

As a student of Voyager Academy for 11 years, I’ll speak from my experience. Elementary school through middle school were great for me. Teachers were nice and I had alot of help. In highschool voyager academy got lazy. We have online classes because we have no teachers, students are being disrespectful, there is a hand full of fights sometimes, and we only have 30 minutes of lunch. Which might seem a lot but high schoolers can drive now. We technically only have 5 minutes to eat after we drive to get our food. On top of that we can even eat in our own parking lot space which we paid 85 dollars for. Our classes are longer than our breaks. Mentally this is draining, especially for those students who work really hard in class. Even in some classes that are core classes you have to pass, there are only two teachers helping everyone. Which shows how understaffed they are. Also we have teacher finals that you have to take, unlike other schools. From my experience even though you have a perfect 98 % if you fail it you’ll get a C. Which makes no sense to me because other schools it’s optional for teacher made exams. If you have an high A, why should you take a teacher made exam? Respectfully Voyager academy needs to lay off the pressure on kids. We are tired.

Our kids are NOT your test cases! Voyager’s administration wanted to participate in a Covid research program in order to get a $200,000 grant! The administration sent out an email requesting parents sign up to allow their students to participate in random Covid testing.Since there was NOT enough participation in the general school population the school decided to implement REQUIRED random Covid testing for all student athletes. If athletes opted out of this random Covid testing they were NOT allowed to play on a their respective sorts team.At no point were parents made aware that this required testing was mandated so that the school could participate in this research study to obtain a $200,000 grant. For a school who does NOT care about athletics, WHY were our students forced to unknowingly participate in this study????The athletic teams do NOT receive money for uniforms, warmups, equipment or even a bus driver for the 2 activity buses that parents paid for via fundraisers. The soccer team that made it to the state championship played on a field with nets that were duct taped in place. The AD would not order uniforms for these kids, so parents had to pay for them out of pocket. The lacrosse team can barely even get access to the voyager fields for practice and games. The basketball teams are not provided money for uniforms. Again this is pushed off as an extra expense to parents. This school is always asking parents for money!! I would love to see how this $200,000 is dispersed. It definitely won’t benefit the kids who were forced to participate into this study! PARENTS advocate for your children! This administration does not have their well being at heart! Question everything that does not make sense.

The High School - D- mostly due to the administration. Being a small school with only 100 kids per grade level you have limited resources. For example, if you were a large school with say 4,000 kids just in high school, there is enough of a critical mass to have a dedicated arts program, dedicated honors with options beyond 1 or 2 classes in each field etc. After 2.5 years if you take all honors classes, there are no classes to take. They don't have the resources to offer any more. So even if you have a bright student who is on track for college, the education you get is watered down by a teacher assigned to teach a 'business' class which turns out to be learning 'Microsoft word' or a PE teacher assigned to make up a class just to put students in it.

Great experience. Most of all is that my kids LOVE this school. Studies show that if a child enjoys school through 3rd grade they have higher success academically later on. If this is true we are on a good path. I am not chained to this school, but my kids love it so that is where they will be.

I believe Voyager Academy is a good school. It could have some improvement. The manager doesn't get involved with the school as much. She doesn't come to school events or interact with the students, like the past manager has. The education is good, it's a lot of homework in certain classes. The fast food vendors and vending machines is excellent and off campus lunch is great for the students, gives us more freedom.

Voyager Academy has been a blessing for our two children! My oldest child attended both private school, and public school and Voyager has by far surpassed both! The teachers in both the elementary school and the middle school have been absolutely amazing. They have done an incredible job differentiating the curriculum and have provided both of our children with rigorous and academically challenging work. My son is now in the Duke Tip program, and is AIG identified. Both of our children LOVE school which has been wonderful! The teachers truly love their jobs and are very dedicated to their work. It is very apparent that they truly love the kids. There is great parental involvement, and the school is a wonderful community. We have been very happy and pleased with both our Elementary, and Middle school experiences at Voyager.

Voyager Academy is a PBL or(Project-based learning) charter school in Dyrham North Carolina. Our school has exceptional teachers that will endure your child in learning. At Voyager "I can't" isn't an option. I'm in the 6th grade and I have been here since the third grade. I was one of the first V.A. Elementary schoolers. I had a blast with my teachers. And best of all everything that we did had meaning behind it. We didn't go on fieldtrips just to go on them, but to learn, live, and love education. Like when we went Teiangle Orthopedics, we did a whole project on the human body. We pretended that we were doctors or nurses, our homebase was the waiting room. There were different operation rooms, and our parents were the patience and we got to heal them it was so much fun! Now I could go on and on about what we did and why we did it but that would take a while. So all I'm trying to say is that voyager academy is the one of The Best Schools that you will ever come across. Now there's only one thing left to say...GO VIKINGS GO!!! ~Taylor

Personally, Voyager Academy isn't a bad school it has it's ups and downs but all schools are up like that. It has great education and wide knowledge of teachers, it's the matter of fact that kids have to be very open with the teacher if their not understanding something and not afraid too speak out in front of other kids. School lunches are great, and the fact that they have lunches for kids with low income is perfect, when they're not provided with food at home. It's an very unique school, you have to attend to understand. I'm in 9t grade been attending since 4th grade. - Diamond

We have a child in kindergarten at Voyager and we are amazed at how much she is learning. We had a rocky start with lack of communication and learning how to deal with so much diversity. The diversity is great, don't get me wrong but they do not do a lot of holiday recognition and programs and stuff so that took some getting used to. Other than that I feel that this school is an AWESOME alternative to public schools!

I have to laugh at the yo-yo scores and reviews posted here. Clearly, this school, like any other, is not right for everyone. I have had two children there since 4th grade. One is now in 11th and it has been a great fit for her. The younger one couldn't stand it and left after 8th. Are there cliques of mean girls/boys? Yes. Please tell me where there are none. Rich kids? I raised mine not to pay attention to brand names - can't be bothered w/that. That attitude isn't just at V.A. It reflects the U.S.A. And the racial make-up? Entrance is purely by lottery. It would be illegal to select students based on race or anything else for that matter. Don't like car lines? Switch schools. But be careful, DPS has them too. Like anything, research carefully: tour the campus, interview teachers, do what you need to in order to make the best choice for your child. Good luck!

As a former student, I can honestly say that Voyager was the worst. I'm currently in middle and I thought I was doing well, but I was WRONG. Two years ago, my teacher didn't really seem to help me at all with my struggles and this "teacher" didn't teach me what I was supposed to know for the common core criteria. Multiplying long division was a bust so if you want your kid to be ahead of the curve, Voyager would be a no-no. Besides all that, the students were just awful. They had no respect for anyone, if you just would tell one the slightest thing such as, "Excuse me, your backpack is unzipped." They would make the most rudest face and snarkiest comment. Goodness gracious, I'm just saving you so your homework doesn't fall out. The students were all rich kids so it is obvious that if you are from a low income or median income family, your most likely going to feel like an outsider with all these North Face's walking around. The teachers were possibly the worst part. Last year, my teacher would compare the more average or largest than average students to higher students. That isn't what your supposed to do, just... no. Voyager... crushed dreams and stress city, population rich kid.
