Not a fan of this school. Her teacher was switched within the first 2 months of school. I didn't love this as my daughter is in KK, so too many changes can be hard for young children, but thats life. When her new teacher started (brand new out of college), it became clear that she didn't have much of an understanding of the common functioning of 5yr Olds. This led to months of constant calls from the teacher and my child being assumed to be the issue in many problems that were simple misunderstandings/bickering between the children, or nuances that 5 yr olds havent learned yet(my child has no idea what flipping someone off is). When speaking to the principal about this, he dismissed me quickly and made no effort to make me feel my child was safe in their care. After speaking with several other parents from my child's class, and finding out they were also being told their children were being "difficult" with no prior issues with any other teachers. There was a common thread. The new teacher. She was fresh out of college and still learning. I get it, we all have to start somewhere, but I draw the line at my daughter crying to not go to school every morning and having all the happiness sucked out of school. She had no confidence b/c she was always in trouble and felt like she could never make her teacher happy. Building her confidence back since leaving this school has been a task. I don't know what was happening in that classroom, but the lack of help from administration and constant pointing the finger to my daughter rather than working together astounds me. I will be the first to admit my child isn't perfect. She makes bad decisions sometimes, but after everything I have learned and the in depth convos with her teacher who couldn't actually tell me specifics about why she was in trouble. Many things she got in trouble for, the teacher made an assumption and did not see the incident. My daughter doesnt typically argue with adults. If you said she did it, she will just say ok, im sorry. She doesnt stand up for herself very well. Since moving schools, we have had zero issues.

The school is great, teacher provides special accompaniment to the students who need it most. Teacher prioritizes fundamental learning and students are happy. The community is very diverse culturally which is great. Teachers who I’ve interacted with are amazing and care for kids. School is welcoming but feedback that I would provide is the front door staff Kimberly needs more observation as how the lady treats some guardians, specially Hispanic community and better her customer service or client experience skills. Some guardians have mentioned that they are afraid and don’t even want to do early check out for their kids because of the negative atmosphere the front door lady represents.

If you have a minority child or a child with any behaviors, don’t put your child here. They do not know how to handle minority children. The principal himself told me he did not know what to do with my son. My child was allowed to go to the nurse anytime he wanted and missed a lot of school work that the teacher claimed she was trying to get him caught up on but at the end of the year she gave him all C and below. Instead of letting a child miss their education everyday to talk to the nurse maybe try creative ways to engage the child to learn. I asked to switch teachers the principal said it was their policy to keep the kid in the same classroom that they are assigned. At the end of the day teachers are suppose to engage children to learn and that’s what they are paid for, so if they can’t do that the parent should be allowed to switch teachers. My son teacher did not communicate well with us at all to even give us the opportunity to make up the work at home. If she was unable to get him caught up, she should have discussed this with us. Then, in summer school he was dismissed from summer school after the first day and couldn’t attend the rest of the summer program because they claimed they did not have enough resources. Why can’t my son get the same education as the other students in the summer program? This is disgusting even thinking about all over again. This school do not push minority children to reach their highest potential. They will probably just give them an IEP and act like their giving them an advantage when we all know that is not the case! My son use to love school now he dislikes going to school. We toured other schools this summer from public and private school and my son is extremely excited to leave Dyer. It’s sad because we moved into this district just for the school, but it has been nothing less than a nightmare. I can’t wait to start our journey at a new school!

Completely displeased with the teachers and staff at this school. I do not feel my child’s needs are truly being satisfied at this school. We have had multiple problems with the teacher, as far as “picking” on my child, not communicating about serious matters and overall lack of effort from her. My child was threatened at school and the teacher did not tell me until I asked her about the situation and then after bringing it up to administrators still NOTHING was done. Front office staff are RUDE!! No other way to put it. Principal does not respond to concerns. Parents are not included in any school activities. I’m disappointed in the school system and I feel sorry for the children who have to go here. I’m pulling my child out and moving just to avoid having to send them here. Do not recommend.

I had a child at this school the last half of their 5th grade year in 2013 and I was so unhappy with the teacher. It was unfortunate we had to move here, but we did. We came from another Gwinnett County school that was beyond wonderful, I hated to have to leave it. But despite the teacher, my child did great on their own, and the teacher was no longer there after that year.Fast forward to now, this is my other child's 4th year at this school and so far, we have no complaints. My child loves all the teachers and staff they have interaction with and they all know her, as seen on site at school and even when we go places and run into them in public. My child is very excited to go to school each day and loves to participate in all activities. I'm not sure what the fuss over homework is at this school, my child has never had more than just having to read 30 minutes each day and math practice online a few days a week. I wish there was more community involvement and chances to be a part of what's going on in the school, but I guess I was just super lucky to be a part of the first school my older children went to.

This past year the staff at this school is beyond horrible! Never had any issues in 4 years but this year they are just ridiculous and extremely unprofessional! Starting with the front office. Love all the teachers my kids have had but sadly this school needs A LOT of improvement.

I moved here specifically to get into this school and so far I am highly disappointed, I disagree with this school's high rating.

This school is a poor example of the education in this great county. Compared to other schools in the same district, this school comes in last place.

Poor. Very unwelcoming to new students arriving.

Majority of the teachers are just there for a paycheck there is probably only a handful of teachers that are really great ie. Mrs Dooley, Mrs. Patterson, Mrs Aleman to name a few of the good ones. I have been dealing with this school for 13 yrs and it's just gotten worst. So can't wait to be done with this school.

My kids have been in 3 different schools in this area and I thought that they all seemed similar to the way that they teach and function. However I noticed a big improvement in my child when we transferred to Dyer. She jumped 3 reading levels with in 4 months which was amazing for me to witness. For a second grade we have one page front and back of homework for the week, and it can be done in one evening.

Same reason as one of the other parents. It's great if you have the perfect student. Not so much if you have a child who struggles academically. I also took my child out of this school and homeschooled for just that reason. Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Wonderful school! They use a STEM format and engage the children in multiple activities to increase their level of learning. The teachers are very helpful and truly want to help your child learn. Great choice!!!

I am not thrilled about the implementation of the "Chicago Math" pilot program. From my understanding this is the only school in the district that is practicing this, and these students are lost when they move on to middle school. Also the "common core " writing assignments seem to be forced, just to say they do it, but the assignments aren't necessarily structured for the strategy. Also, on an administrative level, it seems that we rarely get all of the information required to complete what the school is asking... for example, and this is one of MANY, they send an email asking to complete a parent survey of the school by "clicking the link". No link...then send another expressing the importance, again, no link...I think there were 3 or 4 emails before they get the link on the email. Sometimes it seems they hold themselves to a lower standard than they hold the students.

My friend just told me about this site after she posted a rating and i was surprised to see the rating. I only have great things to say about Dyer. They have really helped my child. They care and want every student to be successful.

The teachers at this school are invested and care about the students. I actually decided to send my son on a permissive because I couldn't imagine him going anywhere else. The teachers are excited about being there and seem to really enjoy working together.
