My step son has had nothing but the best experience here. The teachers are great and caring and willing to work with parents. I am extremely happy with this school and its administration.

We LOVE, love, love this school. Our kids have had the best experience at Hooker Oak Elementary. The curriculum is far from average....in fact, we toured several other schools and this school by far offers the best approach to learning and instruction. Hands-on learning and an abundance of field trips are really what sets this school apart from others. We also love that this is a parent volunteer school. We have had the pleasure of helping in both of our kids' classrooms throughout the years and what we see is amazing. I love the welcoming environment of the school and sense of community. Parents that actually care and are willing to put in the time and effort into their child's education is an amazing thing. Parents and teachers work together as a team for the best interest of the children. Teachers have innovative ideas and students participate in several community projects which we feel are important to shaping young children. Our child's kindergarten experience this year was nothing short of amazing and our oldest has had the best experience from kindergarten through 5th grade. We are very pleased. Two thumbs up for Hooker Oak teachers, parents, and students!

My stepdaughter attended this school for kindergarten, there is no parking except for in the "bus loading zones" that say no parking or along the street where you have to walk quite a distance to get in and then all the way back to the kindergarten class areas, not fun if you have other kids to carry in with you. My stepdaughters mom parked in the Church parking lot (across the street) and a druggie busted out her passenger window and stole her purse - right before Christmas! Was identified later on camera using the stolen credit cards at K-Mart. It is believed she was staying at the slummy apartments at the corner of 3dr/Arbutus. Another issue is that they are the only school that serves breakfast for 15mins, from 7:45-8am yet there were many mornings that the doors were not open promptly at 7:45 and they shut the kitchen doors promptly at 8, sometimes even a minute or two before if there was no line. The day we arrived at 7:58 and the breakfast doors were closed we went to the office to complain and when they opened the kitchen for us at least 15 other kids came running for breakfast. The kitchen staff complained - made us feel like they really didn't care about the kids at all. I called around to all the other schools and none of them have as short of a window for breakfast. Curriculum was average and the teacher was nice. Best advice - avoid this school if possible, pick a different school if that is an option for you.

Our family loves this school! Great community and family involvement, a school garden, a green approach, no-waste lunch program, high parent involvement and wonderful teachers are just a few of the highlights of this Open Structure program with hands-on integrated curriculum. Hooker Oak K-8th is truly the best!!!!!!!!!

Hooker Oak offers a variety of people, ideas, cultures and learning styles to be appreciated and valued. The key component is parent participation in the classroom!
