My experience is with Dean of students Bobby Thompson, the school and Bobby put on a Lacrosse Tournament every season to gain attention to help recruit new student lacrosse athletes through scouting them at their CLT Tournament in the fall. I was shocked to find out Bobby had such an influence on the student end of things because of what he did to Team Ontario athlete Lacrosse Players who recently attended his and the Providence Day School advertised Lacrosse Tournament, that is also published on the Tournaments website.50 + youth Lacrosse athletes, coaches, trainers, as well as their parents of these potentially recruited participants attended this past weekend coming internationally. The Ontario team full of 2029’s & 2028’s beat every team in their 2029 category by at least double the pts going 4-0. Bobby Thompson Who represents the school and its tournament contacted team Ontario to disqualify them from Sundays playoffs because of the age group technicality calling Ontario players unfair. The only option Ontario was given, was to move the age group up where Ontario would now be playing with younger players Vs Older opposing players which Ontario was ok doing because how good the Ontario teams were, it wasn’t a big deal for them to be at such a minimal disadvantage. With that being said Bobby now added that no matter what the outcome of the final games were at the next age group up, Ontario would be disqualified regardless from any playoff bracket because it wasn’t fair that the 2028 (older) teams hadn’t played them already. Long story short, team Ontario played against the first place seed that was 3-0 Sunday morning and beat them by a goal even with younger players by half, and were eliminated directly afterwards by Bobby and the school. The same individual that is dean of students is making decisions like this and is not in the best interest of players or students but the programs that he represents such as this school and their tournament. If you don’t believe me look at the previous reviews where people state they don’t care about the students and athletes and only care about their own personal agendas.

We are parents of a current PDS student who has been at PDS since TK. He is now going into his Senior year and has been well taught to have good study habits and to put his studies before sports. He is looking forward to finishing strong and selecting the College of his choice. The Teachers and staff at the school have worked very hard to provide after-hours help when needed. We have been very happy with the sports programs and the student moral it brings to the school and its students. I had a co-worker whose son played basketball for PDS and received a discounted tuition but had to work hard for the grades he received, he went on to Queens and completed his degree. It is not a sports school that allows students to coast through classes without working hard. I know of sports players over the years that chose other schools in the area due to the workload required at PDS.Great school!!!

The Board of Trustees urgently requires a replacement, as numerous issues plague the school. Unfortunately, the board is neglecting its responsibilities, failing to hold the leadership team accountable and make decisions in the school's best interest. Their detachment from reality is evident in permitting poor investment choices in leadership, incremental non-teaching positions, facilities and student recruitment at the expense of the existing parents, without providing any rationale.

We loved our teachers and PDS has a lot to offer. However, if you are trying to teach your children not to conform to the patterns of this world; then you’ll want to look elsewhere. If you’re pleased with and encouraged by the state of the world today, you’ll fit right in.The Headmaster is great, he is very good at playing politics and promoting image and reputation.

Writing this review during the final week of 21/22 year. The past two and a half years brought too much permanent change for the worse to PDS. Charlotte's rapidly growing private school sector produced record high admissions applications contributing to overconfidence and complacency. Prolonged pandemic actions caused administration and faculty to get too comfortable with reduced expectations. The amount of things eliminated across everything is astonishing.My family loved PDS pre-pandemic. PDS is indeed a good, sweet little school and needs a strong push to reclaim their spot as the best. I wanted the best for my daughter and have confidence they will adjust back.

Reading the reviews from other parents and/or alumni is extremely disheartening due the baseless and false accusations made. Providence Day is an excellent school with a wonderful staff. Academically it certainly ranks higher than both Charlotte Latin and Country Day with less emphasis on old-money values and vanity. Clearly some of these reviews are the result of some bitter parents who are unable to clearly see the true aptitude of their children. 5 stars!

How much tuition money has providence day school paid out to obtain recruits for basketball and football ? There should be an investigation on these types of back door admissions and scholarships. A peer school chanted lets go Patriots at a men's varsity basketball game and I did not know what that meant. Someone told me that Providence Day recruited four basketball players from the same school to play basketball. That is sickening ! The athletics director and headmaster should be under investigation. I do not think any school has ever recruited players for a sport like this . They are shameless and nauseating ! Providence day is trickling downward with these loathsome management behaviors .

Amazing upper and middle school. Strong athletics programs. Amazing campus continuously investing to build bigger and better for their students.

Why did Providence day school hire a serial job hopper as their new men's varsity basketball coach ? He has never stayed put on one job for more than 4 years. He was also allowed to bring in four basketball recruits from his previous school and one is a senior. Never seen a more revolting display of trying to win basketball games . These new recruits were also admitted after the admission deadline . The athletics director and headmaster should be dismissed and an audit into the admissions process should be conducted immediatelyPDS family ? They should change that motto !Will not be donating any more money until the school focuses on what is really needed . More teachers and less back door admissions for sports recruits.

Providence Day School is trying to become a sports school. They have recruited many football and basketball players at the expense of the current families paying tuition. An outside organization should look into the admissions process of the school. The athletic director and principal should be let go . Bunch of phonies !

Providence Day school has been stepping aside from academics. They are more interested in recruiting kids to play sports especially football and basketball. Last year they recruited a boy to play football, and after playing for HIMSELF at Providence Day for a season, he was recruited to an excellent university to play football.. Unfortunately, he then chose to go back to his original high school to graduate, and Providence day got nothing in return except paying for his tuition. Great move by the Athletics director. He should be let go.

Providence Day provided my daughter with a decent education, however Charlotte Latin, Charlotte Country Day, and Charlotte Catholic are much better schools. We sent our other daughter to Charlotte Country Day after our horrible middle school experience, and she loves it there. Multiple times we contacted the school and administration about the humiliation that my daughter felt every time her ADHD was brought up in front of other students, or when she was called to go see the guidance counselor (not done discretely). This school is disconnected from the Charlotte community, and kids are placed in a bubble with no exposure whatsoever to any adversity. My oldest is now thriving at Charlotte Latin, and has been better prepared for life and any obstacles along the way. The nightmare two years she spent at Providence Day set her back academically because of their ignorance towards learning disabilities, lowered her self-confidence by constantly badgering her about her ADHD and guidance counselor meetings, and exposed her to a disgusting social hierarchy that favors athletes, wealthy donors, and celebrities’ children. Money much better spent at any other private school in the area (Charlotte Latin in particular).

Such a great place! We moved from the West Coast and there is such a wonderful sense of community here! The teachers are approachable, dynamic, and really are there for the kids! There is so much opportunity here for kids to blossom and find their passion.

We have a son in 4th grade, and we've been at PDS since TK. Love the school. They do an outstanding job of placing my son with the right teacher each year. He loves school, and is learning so much.

My kids have attended for almost a decade However, I am done with this place. They have become more focused on their liberal agenda than preparing kids for the academic constraints of college. I am not sure why they do not simply subscribe to the policy of: treat everyone kindly and with respect, Period. The End. No need to have a full time diversity department or allow an array of teens to have an open mic for thoughts. Just remind everyone to be nice to everyone....and teach kids how to do math and write.
