My overall experience has been wonderful with Brighton area schools but Hawkins especially goes above and beyond to help every student succeed!

My oldest has been at Hawkins for 3 years now and we absolutely love it my youngest just started this year! We could not be more happy with all the staff thy love our kids like there own and really take the time to get to know the students I also went to Hawkins in elementary and am so proud to have my children going through now as well!

MY son will be returning this year for the special needs program that hes been threw before and has done a amazing improvement. my son has a rare condition and Hawkins has been the only school that has helped with his learning disabilities down to the lunch lady's since my son is on growth hormones and other medication that he needs to be able to have extra or even snacks threw out the day, it has been no extra cost to me and they have even sent home snacks on the weekend so he had his favorites at home. i cant wait for my youngest to start here next year as well, also they have more activities threw out the year even for the younger grades than most of the school district. as for the parent who posted about the high school principle i believe you referring to hornung school not hawkins which is where my son is being moved out of for same reason you posted

Hawkins is the worst school ever. They do not want to help children learn and are mean and rude. I had to move away for my son to get the help he needed to succeed. They never did anything to help him learn. The principle is from the high school and has no idea how to deal with young children. I went through all the channels to help him and they did nothing. He is doing wonderful at his new school. Even the lunch ladies are bad. If you need any extra help get an advocate then they will listen.

They do NOT have a no student left behind policy. They will not adapt new methods for your child's learning abilities. They like to assume you as a parent do nothing at home & imply at meetings things you should/need to do. Staff is friendly & seem to care but will not push for extended learning for your child unless you push them to do so, which means struggling students fall behind & continues to do so if their parents aren't very involved. My son has learning disabilities & was held back in kindergarten even with IEP classes for extended learning time. At the end of his 2nd yr in K we were told if this wasn't his 2nd yr & was his 1st yr as a kindergartener, they would be recommending he be held back (again!?). It seems they would increase help for him as necessary & adapt new methods of teaching him as they can tell he is falling far behind than he should be academically. But no, instead they insinuate we need to do more, as if us helping, tutors, occpu therapy, etc is us doing nothing. This school district is great for academic achievers but if your child has learning disabilities you're in trouble. You well have to go full force in & fight like crazy for your childs success!!
