Both our kids have gone to this school & overall have had a great experience. We’ve had several teachers support my children thru extracurricular events too. That’s a very special teacher who takes time out of their schedule to support their students beyond school hours. Academically, they’re on par with public education standards. This year has been challenging w Covid but Mrs. Demmitt has been an amazing teacher & excelled through all the challenges with a well diversified curriculum & achieving high ratings from my child. School culture & school community needs improvement though. I would’ve liked to see more mainstreaming with the special Ed students. The general Ed & special Ed rarely have opportunities to creatively engage with each other which is very sad. Also, there are few events to make our school community more cohesive whether it is thru cultural events, social events or with administration actively engaging our school community. Overall, we love Sexton Mtn & thankful for our experiences at this school.

The pandemic is the best thing that ever happened to this school, and the entire district for that matter. We pulled our child out when we discovered just how low quality public education has become. Hours and hours of screens. Rushed, grist mill environment. Rushed lunch time. Rushed and whittled down recesses. Really sad to see how tests and standards have replaced the fundamental need children have to play and be social. And please don't get me started on their "Health" standards. Are parents taking the time to read these standards? Because they are scary. Did I mention consistent yearly direct advertising and marketing to children while in school by outside for-profits? The administration is very adept at gaslighting anyone who might not agree with how things are run. Life is wonderful now that we are out of the clutches of a broken public school system.

Could do better with physical infrastructure buildup.

My experience comes from a parent with main stream special needs children. There are not adequate resources provided. No solid foundation is built for these students who struggle academically. The information is piled on in layers upon layers, then your child is pushed to move on to the next level. We experienced bullying, verbal and physical. It was a constant battle to get the help our children needed. I would not recommend the school for children with special needs who are main streamed.

We live out of the boundaries and have had to our in a transfer fir the last two years. We wouldn’t be requesting a tranfwr if the school wasn’t worth it. Great team teachers, great principle! Great family community!

Our child is attending this school. I think it is fantastic if your child is following well in the mainstream, but they are on an IEP I feel they just move them along to make their numbers. There needs to be a stronger special education program when a child isn't quite severe enough to be in SRC and not quite there to be in mainstream. There needs to be a middle ground.

Sexton Mountain elementary is a nice, open public elementary school. I am in the fifth grade there and I am having a great time. I have gone there since kindergarten, and all in all I have had a pretty good experience. Kindergarten wasn't the best. First grade the teacher was awesome but the kids were mean. Second and Third grade I had an amazing teacher but there were some bullying issues. Fourth grade was another good teacher and okay kids.So far in fifth grade I am learning so much not just in academics but also about life. Here at Sexton Mountain, the 5th grade is the center of the school. You get to do many amazing things. I have no other school to compare it with, but I rate SMES 4 stars.

I have two daughters at this school. Each daughter has different skills and needs. One needs to be challenged and the other needs a slower pace. BOTH children love this school and cannot wait to go every day. Sometimes I think they might be having too much fun and need more academics but test scores are high. Parents are extremely supportive. It is a great school. We moved into the neighborhood for this school.

One of the best rated schools in the Beaverton School District. I am so impressed by the reading skills of my grandchildren.
