Shore Acres isn’t just a school; it’s a community. These kids struggle through homelife adversities, state testing ambiguities and school district apathy. But they never stop learning. The teachers and administration volunteer their time and resources creating programs to feed minds, bodies and souls. I’m so proud of our Super Sharks!

I am a Teacher at Shore Acres Elementary School and I am so proud to be a Super Shark! In the classroom we are dedicated to support all of our learners! We are dedicated to restorative practices, community circles, PBIS practices, 21st Century skills, academic rigor, academic achievement and intervention! Our expectations of students and Staff are clear: be responsible, be respectful and be safe. In my experience working at Shore Acres when my students have had issues with bullying I have always been able to speak with Administration and colleagues and that always has resulted in helping all parties involved to restore harm and all parties are given support in long term ways! We have many programs at Shore Acres including Peacemakers (conflict management program) , Student Council, Thrilling Thursday (weekly morning runs) and running programs during and after school. These programs enrich our students lives, allow them to have a voice and empower them to be learners inside and outside of the classroom!I will restate, I am so proud to be a teacher at Shore Acres Elementary School! Go Super Sharks!Sincerely,Mrs.HamachiNote: We have a one star rating. I am in disbelief that our school would have 1 star rating. Then I reviewed the rating system of greatschools.org.As I reflect on these ratings I would like to point out a few things. Achievement gap is a construct to blame low income students for their lack of resources. It is saying"if you would just achieve everything would be okay!" That is not true! We as citizens need to vote to fund schools and education so that students all over our country no matter what neighborhood they live in will have resources for their learning. State Testing does not measure learning adequately. We cannot solely rely on that as a measure of learning outcomes for our students. "Test scores for low income students at this school fall far below the state average for all students."When comparing our low income students to all students in our state one has missed a key issue; these low income students do not have the same resources as all the students in our State. We need to fund education so that we can provide these resources to all students in our state. It is not our low income students fault that they are low income. Their existence should not be rated! Thank you!

I loved volunteering at Shore Acres. The staff I interacted with were aware of the impact they had on their students and acted accordingly, and the children were incredibly welcoming and sweet. I would love to volunteer here again.

I have been a teacher at Shore Acres for the past 9 years, and my experiences have been incredibly rewarding. Before coming to Shore Acres, I had already taught at multiple schools throughout the Bay Area, both affluent, middle income, and low income, and nothing compares to working here. Shore Acres has been described as a "hidden gem" because it is tucked away in a close-knit community in Bay Point. The families care about their children's future, and the staff at Shore Acres work closely with the community to ensure a culturally and linguistically rich academic experience for students to become college and career ready. We genuinely care about each individual student's well-being, and we work together to do whatever it takes to learn! I can say with complete honesty that I wake up every morning happy and excited to teach the students at Shore Acres. My colleagues share my passion for making a difference, too. I am reminded everyday why I chose to be a teacher when I look into the faces of these bright students.

I really enjoyed going to Shore Acres to volunteer and "work." I quote work because to me being an After School Program teacher wasn't work, it was actually fun to be surrounded by such great caring kids. You get to meet many different kids with different backgrounds. Its amazing how close you get to them without even expecting it. Most of them will just approach you and make you feel more welcomed. It is very scary to go into a new school and not know what to except because you might have been at other schools, but Shore Acres kids and staff are all nice. I love how culturally it is and how you learn from the kids too! My most memorable time at Shore Acres was when I had to go to the bathroom so I had to call in my coordinator to watch the class, one of the kids ran from the play ground into the classroom to try and catch up to me, he yelled my name and asked where I was going, I told him I was going to go to the bathroom, but that I would be right back. And he yelled, "I Love You!" it was a very heart warming feeling especially because it was only my second week being their ASP teacher. Keep in mind it might be scary for you to be going in as a new teacher, but also for them to have lost their old teacher and get a new one. He also yelled, "I miss you!" and I wasn't even fully gone and finally he told me to hurry, this made me love my "job" even more. Shore Acres is filled with kids that are eager to learn and also eager to see you everyday.

Shore Acres is an amazing school! While at my community college in 2016, I had the opportunity to work in Mrs. Bever's 2nd grade class. Mrs. Bever was a great mentor for me and she built my confidence in my ability to work and teach kids. It was an amazing experience that led me to want to become a teacher myself! I had the opportunity to work with students and teachers at different grade levels, and I can honestly say that the teachers at this school are amazing! They work incredibly hard for their students, allowing the students to thrive. I enjoyed volunteering at this school so much that later that year I started working as a Kindergarten assistant for the next two years. Since then, I have worked in other schools, and none of them compare to Shore Acres. I loved working with the students, teachers, and parents! Shore Acres and its incredible faculty has had such a positive impact on me and the many students that attend there.

I give Shore Acres a 10/10. I spent a semester completing my fieldwork hours and it was very rewarding and a positive learning experience for me. The children are always eager to learn and are very hard-working and respectful. I had the opportunity to be a mentor for a 3rd grade student in Mrs. Bever’s class and it was an amazing experience that made me want to pursue my career in teaching. I learned so much from her and I could see how much she (as well as other teachers) truly care for their students. She would spend her break helping out one or two students with problems they had in their homework. Her passion and determination helped me realize how much I love working with children. The staff is very helpful and caring for their students. Shore Acres is a warm, inviting school where children are surrounded by amazing faculty that want then to succeed.

My experience at the school, started when I began fieldwork hours for a college course. That was not enough, I only had the ability to go once a week and could not stay the entire day. As soon as my availability opened up, I was there everyday and there has not been a day that has gone by that I want to or have not wanted to spend my entire day with the students. I was even there the first day that the students started for this academic year and will finish it with those students as well. Nothing gives me greater satisfaction than being there and assisting both the teachers and the students to make it throughout their day. Since I have begin working with the students here at this school, continuing to be involved and creating more and more opportunities for these students is what stays in my mind everyday and I love seeing the hard work I get to put in come to fruition. That doesn't even compare to seeing the hard work that I see these students do, continuously striving to make progress. That is my experience with the students of Shore Acres Elementary.

I would like to share my experience at Shore Acres from a unique perspective. In 2018, I spent a semester as a college mentor to a 3rd grade student and offered whole class assistance. Much of the time was spent offering reading support, as well as assisting in math and other subjects. The students of Shore Acres had such a positive impact on me. The life changing experience solidified my goal to pursue a teaching credential. Not only have I earned a teaching credential, I will be graduating this spring with a Master of Science in Reading and Literacy.Whenever possible, I return to Shore Acres as a guest teacher. Shore Acres is a special place with amazing students!

Shore Acres is amazing! The atmosphere is so lively and positive starting from the workers greeting you at the entrance, to the lovely office staff, and most importantly the teachers. I am a student at Diablo Valley College and had to volunteer at Shore Acres which was a huge learning experience. I got to witness a 3rd grade teacher in action. Her name is Angela Bever. She LOVES her job and the wonderful kids she gets year after year. She is very encouraging and energetic. I had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer for four months and loved every minute of it. The kids were so welcoming and were so grateful to have volunteers in the class. I was able to help the students if they were confused on the lesson that was being taught in class. Most importantly, I got to see the kids as individuals. They were so bright. Angela Bever kept track of their progress which made each and every student strive to improve which I loved. Even the kids with the lowest scores looked forward to the praise they received. They didn't shy away because they were a little behind. I believe this made the class a unit. They all encouraged one another. I also got to volunteer in Ms. Cheng's class which is a class for special needs students. I was so grateful for this experience. This teacher was a huge advocate for her kids and worked hard every week to get these kids' academics to grade level. Overall, Shore Acres had an amazing impact on me. The teachers truly made me want to be an advocate for children and become a teacher. I truly believe they have great staff and students. The students actually enjoy coming to school everyday because their teachers make personal connections with them. My time at Shore Acres was very unique. I have never been to a school that was looked down upon and had a completely opposite experience. Shore Acres puts a huge focus on family and teacher connection which is rare. To be able to go to this school would be a great opportunity. The ratings on this school are completely wrong.
