This is a wonderful neighborhood school with highly dedicated and experienced teachers. The principal is awesome!

Lee cultivates a close-knit parent community, in part due to the absence of busing. Parents drop off and pick up - leading to a lot of interaction with the teachers and one another. The PTA raises a lot of money for the school which fund supplies and campus improvements. The building and campus are both old, but charming. The low equity ratings on this site reflect, in part, enrollment from an orphanage in district. The staff does take special care to reach these students but often they are coming from seriously disadvantaged backgrounds.

My family LOVES Lee Elementary! When my daughter was having a tough time reading the school stood with her! From her teacher to the principal they spent 1 on 1 time assisting her. She’s progressed tremendously, and I’m beyond thankful! Little sister will be joining this coming school year, and we’re excited!

While I am not always particularly impressed with the approaches to "standard" subjects such as math, the community at Lee is simply fantastic, and the social emotional learning here - which when it comes down to it, is really the crucial thing for an elementary school - is just amazing. We love Lee, including all teachers and the leadership!

This school is centrally located and benefits from having a lot of students whose parents have a connection to UT. There is sometimes a class mismatch between the academic credentials of parents and teachers at the school which leads to some friction on curriculum. The parents can be overbearing in this regard and the principal and staff tend to do a good job keeping them from overrunning the place, but it is a delicate balance since the PTA brings in substantial resources and pays salaries for some teachers.

My son is a student at Lee and I cannot say enough great things about this school. The faculty, administration and PTA are all so dedicated and caring and the school has a very close-knit feel with strong sense of community. I will never move out of this neighborhood because we love this little school so much!

BEST SCHOOL IN THE WORLD. I am an 8th grader who went to Lee. Everyone who went to Lee always brags about the amazement of this school. The next middle school you go to everyone knows all the Lee kids. Its so much fun. I miss it sooooo much :(

I am graduating the 9th grade this year, and I will always remember Lee fondly. My step-mother is one of the teachers there, so I have spent a lot of time at the school even after I graduated 6th grade. There is an outstanding sense of community at Lee. Everyone knows everyone, which is something that not all schools have but is extremely important. Because of the small class sizes (my 6th grade class had 46 people), students have the opportunity to form strong bonds that will last a lifetime. My fellow classmates are the people that know me the best and I would trust most of them with my life. I can be sure of that. I will not consider anywhere else if I still live in Austin when I have kids.

Lee is a good school. Strengths are that most teachers are strong, there is good parental involvement, and there is a strong administration. Growing edges are that the school does not work well with working parents or single parents-- it seems to work off of a 'one-parent-at-home' model, which is true for many of its families. It is slow to change, dreadfully true for its artistic programming--which lacks any creativity or imagination. It also is completely focused on TAKS preparation, which I'm afraid is beyond the local school's control, really, in this day and age but true nonetheless. I also believe that rotating classes beginning in first grade is not developmentally appropriate, but I know that many parents believe it to be a strength.
