This school is amazing. The leadership, leadership team, and passion for JMMS from all employees is second to none. They are the example of what all educator's should be like. Leading the way for COVID safety, student safety, open communication with families, maintaining a positive culture on campus and just genuinely caring. It is so awesome! I work in higher education and all too often the good gets glossed over and it really shouldn't. Credit should be given where credit is due. Go Dust Devils!

My child was bullied, picked on, made fun of on a daily basis. Staff and principal were made aware of this many times and the harassment continued to get worse

The school has a lot of potential and some great programs but, the bullying is relentless and the staff does not know how or chooses not to address the problem. It's awful when you have to worry about your child when they walk out the door to go to school which is supposed to be a safe and peaceful environment.

It was necessary to remove our child from this school due to problems with bullying and lack of competency of school staff. This school should be avoided by students with developmental disabilities.

I was a student at JMMS (2016-2017) and I moved so I had to switch schools which only upsets me because I had to leave my friends behind. I only really liked one of the teachers and the new principal is super nice but there is still a really big bullying problem. Also, pretty much every kid doesn't want to be there ever.

After two years at this school, we decided to pull out child out to be homeschooled. The teachers and administrators are ineffective. My child felt as if she wasn't learning anything. There were a few instances of bullying that the principle refused to deal with. None of my other children will attend this school

Joan MacQueen school has large classes and with the exception of a few teachers most of the staff do not appear to care about the students. They do not care if they actually learn. The priority is to pass them through. The education standards are very low. I was told that as long as my daughter could master 15% proficiency in her subjects (that number is actually considered in the "average" range) she would not be entitled to special ed services. Thankfully my daughter was never physically harmed but she witnessed several kids being bullied and hurt daily. Parents that I know often complain to the staff about the violence but their complaints are met with disregard by the staff. More than once I saw kids unsupervised in unauthorized areas. I personally saw three fights. Every one in Alpine knows that there are drugs and alcohol at the school. Our kids know. The administrators say that the kids only talk about doing drugs. We along with many other parents in Alpine have pulled our children out of Joan MacQeen and taken them to charter schools. Several kids that were once miserable in the Alpine school district are thriving in other schools.

Teacher invalidated my child's skill level, this left my child academically underestimated and bored in class---- resulting in inattentiveness and underachieving. I am very disappointed with this schools overall performance and ability to foster my child's success.

My Son goes to this school currently(2012). I find their disciplinary actions harsh. The Aids are very rude to both my son and myself. The do not listen to the child's side of the story when looking to punish him. The hand out pink slips and referrals like Hotcakes. I am the first to admit when my kid has done something wrong but punishing him for something he obviously did not do its ludicrous. I am Looking into charter schools for my son at the moment. I can't wait to pull him out of Joan MacQueen. They do not handle issues well at all. In my opinion if you can't handle kids you shouldn't be working at a school!
