My child is in the TK Spanish immersion. Before selecting this school, I did so much research and school visits to pick the best option. So far so good! First, the school administration has been very organized before and after the school year started with notifications, announcements, and daily operating procedures. I am observant, and even with construction happening, the staff works together to ensure safety and our student are at the highest priority. The communications come directly from the principal to parents on a regular basis. Mr. Tiger is so aproachable and kind. I see him with steady pace all over campus in the mornings outside helping where he can. He is very involved. There is a sense of community among families. The PTA group provide intentional updates and awareness topics to help support the kids and parents on social media. The vibe is very positive and I see many smiles from parents, staff, and kids. My child's teacher has been a joy. She is very kind and "over communicates" which I love. In the first week of school, my child walked to class on his own and he is enjoying it. I requested a parent/teacher meeting and even witg the busy schedule, she suggested a call. She is very approachable, listens, and supports. Its been a great experience. About playground area, I am hopeful there will be more shade added soon for the students. Thats probably one opportunity that stands out to me the most. Currently, the playgrounds are out in the open. There is a little shade for tables next to the TK/K playground, but i feel like it needs much more. Lakeside can get very hot depending on the weather. It would help so much to allow for more outdoor play and also keep our kids comfortable when it is sunny. TK and K students play together, so they get to make new friends outside of their class. About the Spanish immersion program, my child understands Spanish but doesn't speak it. The program for TK and K is 100% Spanish. So the teacher never speaks English. My child helps the teacher by translating to those who do not understand Spanish. Great way for my child to practice translation and continue learning. They teach social/enotional learning every day. The class size is about 24 students. However, I appreciate that it is the teacher and also a full time aid supporting the students. So far we've had a wonderful experience and so happy to be part of the Lakeview family.

This school is great! The principal is so involved and engaging with the children and families. We love the community feel about this school. Our child needed extra help in certain areas and the school went above and beyond to help.

HORRIBLE experience!!!! Horrible staff and kindergarten teacher there is no communication what so ever. I enrolled my child to a different school and wow you could definitely tell the difference. If you could avoid this school please do so.

The staff and Principal are great at this school. They what what is best for the children and it shows. The school has a community component that we love and the families there are great. My child has done well even needing extra help in subjects. The facility has made sure to get her the help she needs.

Teachers and principals have quit. Parents cussing and fighting during drop off and pic ups. No homework or anything to push the kids to advance. Play ground is dangerous and most of the school year they aren’t allowed outside because of the weather.

I have 2 students at Lakeview in the immersion program. I am so grateful for this unique opportunity at a public school. All the teachers we have had so far have been kind, thoughtful and communicative. The Principal is warm and personable and has responded to any concerns I have had. They have a music program as well and a P.E. program which now is unique to public schools (which is unfortunate). Very happy with this school.

I transferred my child from El Cajon to come here because of the Spanish immersion program. Huge mistake! A month into the school yr my daughter would come home and tell me how other girls were being mean to her. This is 4th/5th grade girls just being mean to new people into the school. I tried talking to both the 4th grade teachers and let them know what was going on. Another huge mistake. Almost every week I'd have the Spanish teacher waiting for me at pick up trying to tell me how my daughter was not focusing at school and kept blaming her for other girl's picking on her. I'd get messages from the same teacher as well. I tried going through the English teacher who thinks she's young and hip and nothing resulted there either. My daughter got to the point where her self esteem was so low and she's always been a very social person. I put in another transfer and luckily was able to move my daughter back to El Cajon after the school yr. I messaged the principal letting her know about the teachers and she just wished us well at our new school. Super tight and closed minded school. Felt the need to write this review since no one talks about the bullying here.

We're to start.... My son's special education class is being ran off the campus to make room for the Spanish Immersion class expansion. His teacher felt very unsupported from staff. There was a SLP instructor vacancy from February to April 2016 and no notice was sent out until March just before Spring break. Speech minutes were made up by the new SLP for all students that required speech but some students had speech for 4 days out of the week to accomplish this daunting task. Mr. McKeever left in May 2016. Good luck next year to whomever has a child attending this school who may need support from a SAI. There will no longer be on on campus. Oh, and as another reviewer stated, the library did shrink in size. Too bad., I had so much hope that this was a good school.

The teachers we've dealt with seem caring but may be burned out. Looks like there's a lasting division of students who do well & who don't. The balance isn't there from what I see & neither end of the spectrum gain dramatic improvement. Technology& spanish seem a main focus but could be detrimental. Students are doing many things on ipads so parents aren't having access to tests and work. Even w/ ipad use for so many things, which means less paper work, convenience& less time consumed, time seems crunched. Lunch & recess are cut into, art & music skipped. Library is becoming a thing of the past which would be less of a blow if the stories read on the ipad weren't short & though educational, boring. My child used to love reading and now seems reluctant. Spanish program was pushed at us by the principal w/ no regard to how it will impact my student's education, the teacher & other students in the class. The will take a child who speaks no spanish& ask parents to decide, on an unexpected call, whether to put that child in a full spanish speaking class w/ no trial/testing or time to think about it. Mr. McKeever talks as if it's a great opportunity but offered no plan for English support, or subjects a child may be weaker in, & will have more strain learning in a language they don't understand & no mention about testing at the end of the year. I wasn't asked if I had any questions & it wasn't clear that it was a full 100% spanish speaking class until I talked to someone else. A student who speaks no spanish is no good addition to that teacher's work load w/ student needing so much help & attention. Parking's very limited, even on the street it's hard to get a spot. The upper lot & pick up circle are dirt. Rain=pickup circle closed, parking lot muddy mess. People double park in lower lot(on sunny days)blocking others in. Mr. McKeever talks to some cars but nothing's enforced. Heavy traffic is compounded by the crossing team. One adult is needed in several spots to quickly & efficiently direct pedestrian and car traffic. Assemblies=sardines who can't even see their children perform & again parking. Some office staff are plain rude & it seems you're supposed to somehow know how things work, so ask. IE the pickup drop off, 2 circles, diff places children may be sent or could wander off to if you're late for class pick up... An unknown man was raoming campus...

Spanish emmersion is just incredible. My 5 year old can read and write in both English and Spanish with the most perfect, cutest accent! ! I wish they offered the emmersion preschool/eak still at this location. Very family orientated school

I have mixed emotions rating because the teachers are great, but the principal isn't. This school has a lot going for itself. There's a technology program, Spanish program, Spanish enrichment program, and a music program. I picked this school instead of Riverview because I recognized that BS wasn't being advertised. The program is organized without the marketing and fake advertising. My child will be educated in Spanish, English, technology and music starting kindergarten. Though the principal seems lost but not crazy like Riverview's principal) I did get an awesome vive from the teachers teaching the program. They are professional and organized and didn't try to sell it to me using gimmicks. I was calm and focused when they spoke about the program opposed to overwhelmed and confused. I was at peace Try Lakeview's Spanish or English/Spanish program.

This school used to be amazing under the direction of the old principal, Ms. Taylor, but the new principal, Austin McKeever has completely destroyed the schools reputation. I know that it is a California Distinguished school, but the school was given that award based on the efforts from last year under Ms. Taylor's direction. Austin does not support his teachers or special education department and had been breaking federal laws with a smile on his face. I do not know why the district doesn't intervene when their best school is in a deathly tail spin. As a parent I advise you to be involved in the school so your child can still have a good experience because it is not a given anymore.

I absolutely love Lakeview! My daughter has been attending Kindergarten here and we both are so pleased with her teacher and principal. I like how they pride themselves on academics but without taking out all the fun. They have lots of fun activities at the school as well as programs to get your child involved. The homework isn't too hard but just the right amount to challenge my child. Her teacher is loving yet is stern enough with the kids to where she has the classroom under control. I highly recommend this school!

This is the best elementary school in Lakeside!!! They have alot of activities for the families as well as the individual children. There teachers build a relationship with the students. They Principal sends weekly voice mail messages to let you know what is going on. I think the only improvement that could be made should be by the PTA. Which is the parent involvement.

Lakeview Elementary School provides the finest educational opportunities available. My child has access to cutting edge technology in a very innovative and engaging multi-age technology class. This class has helped him to become excited about learning! In addition, he is learning Spanish in the afternoons two days a week, not to mention an hour of piano lessons weekly. The Principal is very friendly and greets all students with a smile! It seems as if she knows the names of all of the students.

My son has attended Lakeview since his Kindergarten year, and is in the 2nd grade this year. I agree with the other parents who have commented about the office staff. They definitely could be MUCH friendlier than they are to parents, I've witnessed them being pretty shockingly condescending the times I have been in the office with my Son over the years. With that said - The Principal and the Teachers are OUTSTANDING!! Every teacher my son has had thus far has been nothing short of incredible. They have all been extraordinarily patient, supportive, & work very closely with the parents. I love the way the Principal stands in front of the school every morning and every afternoon waving to all the cars coming in & going out. Whether it's a hot day w/ temps in the triple digits, or if it's freezing & poring rain - She is still out there waving hello and goodbye with a great big smile. She does Lakeview Elementary proud, and we are lucky to have her! The PTA is extremely friendly and very informative. I'm very happy that my son is a Lakeview Road Runner, and am overjoyed that his baby sister will be joining him next year as she starts her first year as a Lakeview Kindergartner!

My granddaughter attends this school. Office staff could be friendlier to parents. It seems they think they are speaking to children all the time, instead of adults. Principal and both of the teachers I've met are very good with the children and parents. The teacher my granddaughter has this year is really good.

Great school! Fantastic teachers and support staff and the Principal is wonderful! I have seen so many parents involved in the school and their support makes the school so much better. Everything I have heard about this school turned out to be true.
