Absolutely terrible school. From issues with bullying not being resolved, inquiries being pushed off to assistant principal who starts every conversation being condescending, support staff who talk down to students and parents, and lack of special education services just to name a few. Read the other negative reviews. They are spot on.

If your kid has a 504 or an IEP, try a different school. They won't support your child, you kid will be run out of the school.

STAY FAR FAR AWAY! Or WELCOME if you lay down and have no voice. My children have gone here for the last 4 years. Nothing but problems this year!! Principal hangs up on you when it regards your kids. Teachers ignore the children when an issue occurs, then when the child stands up for themselves after multiple time of saying something. They are punished. A Child brought mace to school and dispensed it in the bus loop, no phone call until 10:20 as my youngest suffered with swollen eyes for days no authorities were contacted. Until I picked her up from school. But if I were to do so in public I would probably go to jail! Ohh I can go on. Horrible. My youngest has 4 more years and we will not be returning next year.

The school only gets two stars from me because the pre-K program my child was enrolled in was amazing. They quickly shut that down and kicked all the kids out! Our kindergarten teacher was amazing! Infact, the entire K team during that school year was amazing. Then came the consecutive years and everything came crashing down. Complete and utter lack of communication; disrespectful, rude teachers (to us parents in addition to our child) fighting for resources that are legally required for equal access to education, etc. The homework remains optional, however, when asked for extra support we've been guided to Google. The leadership for the support staff is nice at the school (not on a district level). The leadership for the basic teachers could use a lot of work. Building character: we haven't had much in this category outside of the early years. As for bullying the students seem quite versed in being kind. The teachers are the ones who need workshops on bullying. Learning differences: they do the absolute minimum as to be in compliance with federal regulations. Should your child need anything extra you have to FIGHT for it.

I honestly don't understand how this school is rated so high. The level of education my kids received there was less than bare minimum. School runs multiple fundraising events throughout the year and this takes time. I felt like school was run by PTA moms and it was a closed circle of moms - there was no way to get in. Teachers have their favorites which was ridiculous. All talks were about money and money only. There were no special programs for gifted children. There were no afterschool activities whatsoever. SOES is the worst school my kids ever attended in Florida. Do not recommend sending your children there!

First question I have to ask here is does this school have a Principal? If there is one then I am in shock because I have never had a conversation with them, never had an email or voicemail returned, and have never gotten any indication that any of my concerns or questions are important enough to acknowledge. Is there a Principal? If there is then I would say they are completely rude and distant. What a HUGE mistake I have made sending my kids to a school where they are bullied by students and teachers yet somehow the issues are covered up and the offenders are protected. A school where my child is least important because I am not a PTA member. The worst schools in the worst neighborhoods up north are a Million times better because the teachers don't discriminate and there is accountability.

My son first came to this school in 2012 I thought it was going to get a good school and BOY was I wrong the teachers are bad and they don't seem to be doing anything when they get hurt or bullyed all they seem to be doing is protecting the bully instead of the child sometimes my son even says he wants to attend to a different school

I love this school. My son has grown so much at this school from his teachers giving one on one and taking the time to listen and care for the students. The principal is wonderful and looks out for the best interest in all the students and the two assistant principals are awesome. I have no complaints and know my child is getting a great education.

Love this school and the New principal is the old vice principle from 2 yrs back and she was outside the first day of school doing the traffic. She is always around; at lunch, at buses, doing car line, etc... Great group of teachers who care.

I am really surprised that it is already the 10th week of school and my child has not meet/or seen the new principal. As a parent who volunteers on a weekly basis for both the PTA and with the class, I have yet to meet or even see ( except from a distance) the new principle either. I understood it in the beginning but the fact that my son is yet to meet or see her has me concerned and quite annoyed. I hope this changes and quickly. I am afraid that if she does not start "showing herself" there will be a lack of control within the school. I do not want what i believe is a rather well oiled ,machine to fail under this new regime. I think it is shameful that my child has not met his principle

The teachers at this school are knowledgable and go above and beyond for students. The principal, however, is another story all together. It's obvious that she detests young children. Not the kind of person I want as the principal of my child's school.

We moved to the area 3 years ago so that my child could attend this school. Its our 3rd year here and this last year has been the worst. SOME of the teachers are NOT patient. They do not seem to do much if your child is bullied. It seems they have done more to protect the bully in our case. I don t believe they realize the true situation nor do they seem to care. We are putting our child in a Private Christian School next year due to these issues we have experienced.

Kids do come first there. The principal does care about the students, teachers and parents. Parents have plenty of opportunities to come into the class. Its a no win situation with some parents. Apparently some of those parents have posted on here.

In answer to Feb 8 posters question: Parents are afraid of going up against her. The very great majority don't have any courage at all and think that it will never affect them and don't have any clue about the "Then they came for me" concept.

SOES is a very good school. Ms. Smith, the principal, runs a tight ship. She makes sure her teachers do their jobs and she's hired some great teachers. Yes, she has an obsessive compulsive personality d/o but somehow it keeps the school running like a professional business. For personal matters that need sensitivity/warmth, Ms. Smith has hired an approachable vice-principal and caring guidance counselors. My child has some LD and received a can-do spirit and great encouragement. The school reward kids for what they do well and this builds confidence. My child learned to love school this year and had a teacher that made learning fun. My child's classroom also had cutting edge technology that the kids had fun learning to use. I had been afraid of "public school" before this year...yet, in Florida, one should be more wary of the private schools that do not have learning theories put into practice. "A" rated schools in Florida blow all the private schools & charters away--the infrastructure is more conscious & intelligently designed for learning key skills and the teachers are more competent & educated.
