I dont know what I did to be misfortunate enough to go here I genuinely do not understand how some of the hardest working students can have their motivation and dedication torn and spat on so many times like its normal.

This school has really fallen in quality from when the long-standing principal left at the end of 2017. The next year saw three different principals, as the person hired first was an utter disaster in terms of fit with the school. Now, six years later, the school rating here has gone from a 7 to a 3, and it shows. The principal is exhausted and bumbling. The assistant principals are clueless. None of them are strong leaders and none of them make their presence known among the students, except in the lunchroom. Students complain regularly about the teachers, the bullying, and the lack of resources. The fun clubs and positive, morale-building activities have fallen completely off the cliff, in favor of more focus on athletics and less focus on academics. As a teacher, the attitude of the other teachers and staff always seemed halfhearted, at best, though there are some true gems few and far between. The kids are great and are truly underserved at this school, sadly.

Good teachers but terrible counselors. My grades dropped from A’s to straight f’s and I believe that should have been an indication for my counselor to help me but I never got any help while I was at this school. I was very interested in learning higher mathematics, but my counselors wouldn’t even let me take a test to prove if I was capable enough to take such classes even tho some math teacher’s advised me too. Bullying and fights are also a regular at this school. Fights happens approximately every 2 days but it’s not fixed. Also most teachers are wild too. They don’t care about you they are there just to clear out their student Loan. In conclusion if you plan on challenging yourself in gaining higher education don’t go to this school. The counselor’s will not support your decision to challenge yourself and pursue higher education.

A 3 out of 10 because if i hadn't of had that select few good teachers and my mom to fight the bad teachers, I would have failed.

Very marginal. While there are a few great teachers and administrators at Tucker, and if you're already a decent student and have a family who cares, you will get what you need at Tucker to get the job done and get a diploma and maybe get to college, but the bottom line is, you have to watch behind everything to make sure that what is supposed to get done gets done and even then you are often met with difficulty and Kafka-esque situations. Tucker High will give you and your child a good knowledge of how to adequately follow rules and deal daily with bureaucratic-minded and legalistic people who lack excellence. As for providing an excellent education, developing great character and igniting a passion and potential for creating a better future for and by its students and the world - not so much.

Every exchange student I've had there loved it. The teachers & staff were caring & tried to help kids that struggled.

Overall I have had a great experience with the school. My son attended 9th, 10th, and 11th grader and now I have a 9th grader there as well. Our assigned counselor works well with us. The gifted, AP and STEMs instructors are prepared and provide rigor for the students. I appreciate the offered tutorials to assist my child. I hear of a little fun in the classes as well. The clubs are great: Habitat, robotics, student government, and cupcakes (who knew). There are a lot of students moving about the school for the school size that I think they should review.

Not a bad a school but I cant stand the racism thee sometimes! I just moved here from another country. Some teachers are great while some aren't and its really boring (all work and no play makes jack a doll boy!) its like a prison and the system feels like if its geared to pressure us!

Great football program, questionable academics and both the ratings here and the test scores prove that out.

THS is a great place to be whoever you are. Whether you are a musician, a writer, an athlete, a social butterfly, a soldier, an engineer -- Tucker has whatever you're looking for and nurtures your talents and interests in a caring environment, regardless of race or creed.

I'm an incoming 10th grader at Tucker High School, and unfortunately, I was able to experience the full brunt of faults beginning only my freshman year. Every school has bad teachers, but the fact that after innumerable complaints, conferences, and interventions, these teachers are allowed to continue to "teach" demonstrates Tucker ' s priorities. The main cause of my not- so -high rating is that so much emphasis is put on the football program that both academics and, surprisingly, other sports,- fall in its shadow. The football is fantastic, yes, but I would love if when I search ' tucker high school ' on google, articles about Tucker students winning national awards, the latest spring musical, and even thoughts about the other great Tucker sports teams ( including the lady tigers, whose championship win didn't quite inspire much excitement through the halls as a football championship would) pop up. Also, Tucker claims a " diversity", which is really code for, "overcrowding" . Might I add a last bit, the counselors? I wouldn't trust them for advice. Or scheduling, for that matter.

Why no reviews for three years? Tucker HS is an "ok" school. You'll find good and bad teachers in every school, so the quality of teachers isn't the issue. The problems that I see are related to overcrowding: scheduling at the start of the school year was awful with hundreds more students showing up than expected, counselors are often too busy to be effective, kids have to share lockers (but the lockers can't hold the belongings of more than one student and their books weigh four and five pounds). I really hope DeKalb does something about letting students transfer to already overcrowded schools when their home schools are under capacity. There are a lot of clubs and activities for students to participate in, so that's a positive. Overall, it's an average school that would probably improve a lot with far fewer students.
