I’m not sure if my daughter learn much in 2nd grade she only brings home study guides to prepare for tests every now and then. Theirs is not a lot of informations regarding what’s happening in classroom. I would expect an annual performance for elementary school but not Burnette. My daughter got harassed so many times by the same boy I had to complaint 3 times for him to finally stop.Parent12 min agoOverall Experience

As a teacher applicant, I had the pleasure of engaging Dr. Lehmann at a meaningful level and seeing her heart for her faculty and students. She cares for not only the whole child but the whole adult under her watch, thoughtful about the varied needs of her school members. She is professional, modest, and caring. All the administrators and staff I met are lovely people. Burnette is in great hands!

Our experience so far: Unresponsive, snobby teachers, rude and uncommunicative administration, unwelcoming in general. Burnette Elementary is located in an affluent area of an Atlanta suburb, and it shows at this school. If you send your kids here, cross your fingers that you and your child are well liked by their teacher because if you aren't, they do not hide it. They just ignore your emails, act so fake, and do the absolute bare minimum. If you are not a wealthy family, hope and pray that you get an understanding and caring teacher that doesn't judge you for not being to afford expensive field trips and purchasing the class wish list. And if you have kids that need extra accomodations, definitely do not recommend this school. Our child comes home feeling defeated and helpless because they are not getting the adequate help they need. Disappointed overall and looking forward to moving again.

I am on my third child at this school, all have had a great experience and have grown as students and human beings. The leadership from the teachers and the faculty is exceptional.

Burnette Elementary was the home of our worst school experience of all time. Without naming names, my son‘s fifth grade year has left him scarred by his teachers and fully uncertain of his academic capabilities. My child is both ADHD and dyslexic. The two team teachers he had could not even tell me what dyslexia was much less how to support it. They refused to follow his 504 accommodations, and later in the year, actually began reprimanding him for failing to remind them of what his IEP supports were. This only being because I eventually began sending emails upset that his IEP was not being followed. They also marked papers to such a degree that sometimes I could not tell what my child’s original work looked like. They wrote grade comments that hurt my child’s feelings as the comments snubbed the learning disability he had no control over and one they were well aware of. They also graded papers wrong on a weekly basis which had to be sent back for correction and did not consider any “out of the box” answers which could have been considered or at least given some credit (Ex. 2/4 rather than 1/2). My administrator level intervention regarding our experiences only resulted in the principal making excuses for the teacher by saying that she was a single mom and under a lot of stress and a refusal from her to move him to a new class. By the end of the year, neither teacher would acknowledge me in the halls and responded to emails with as little conversation as possible. Please be aware I have recently heard that these two have moved up to the middle school and are now teaching at Hull Middle School 6th grade. You know it’s bad when the school nurse has her child removed from their room! Good luck!

They failed my children and neighbors. Do not recommend. They took them steps back instead of forward.

This is my son's third year at Burnette. He is on 5th grade. I have very impressed with the school. The administration and teachers are awesome. There is an open line of communication which i appreciate because it helps to stay on top of things and addresses an issuers your child may be having. My son is very intelligent, but has his little quirks. I have been do relieved that each of his teachers understand that each student is different and they don't belittle the kids. He loves going to Burnette and has excelled academically. The teachers are creative and for 5th grade There seems to be lots of in class projects and not a ton of homework. There are great opportunities for before and after school clubs for the older grades, which my son has participated and enjoyed each semester.

This school has some great teacher and bad ones meaning lazy. They go to fast without teaching the information. My 4th grader each week has 4-6 study guides which material has not been taught so the parent has to teach the information. For example 35/5 is 7 but the teacher tells them pick any number and subtract it from 35. only the teacher knows and very confusion when your helping your child at home learn the basic way of a division problem which is finding the factor. Get ready to invest in a tutor. Then they will bring in the school conselor to say your kid must have a problem if they can't teach themselves or understand the teacher. Administrative very sneaky and do not like parents that pay to much attention to what's really going on and speak up about it. That's a big no no or they come after you.

We are so happy with this school. The Principal and Assistant Principals are very professional and care about the students. Also the teachers are very caring and the school has an overall friendly atmosphere. My daughter loves going to school, she feels cared for and safe. She still visits her first grade teacher from last year Mrs. McGiboneyjust so she can give her a hug! This year she absolutely loves her 2nd grade teacher, Mrs Smith, even though the work coming home is challenging. We are so very pleased by how this school has addressed our daughter's weaknesses in her subjects by communicating with us, creating an plan for our daughter so she can receive the individual tailored attention to help her succeed at school. Many schools do not want to take the time to truly understand each student's cognitive needs but this school does and we applaud them. Our daughter is not being pushed through a system but being educated with care at Burnette Elementary.

I'm rating this school low because my child was in this school. Staff met with me & my to say our child could need special Education services. Most of my kids numbers were passing and very high not failing anything. However was low on reading and writing as kids can be in 2nd grade. We were railroaded into placing our child into services by staff.Only to take my kid to a different school and teachers ask why my child is getting service help reading on or close to grade level. Now at the end of the year my child is reading at a 4th grade level.Which we were told would not be possible based on this staffs professional opinion.Glad as a parent I believed in my kid not teachers looking to get high performance reviews so they can get bonuses. Ala Dekalb schools.

I will give this school zero star if it has one. Do not believe in what other view said. That was a mistake we had.

This is Burnette's second year and they are certainly off to a great start. The school uses the latest technology, has a very active PTA and the staff/faculty are very involved in ensuring all students succeed. We are happy to be in this school district and a part of the Burnette Family!

It is a brand new schools and this was the first year of this school. It is actually an extension of Parson Elementary and most of the teachers and students came from that school. My daughter went to first grade in this schools and we absolutely loved the school, the staff and the parents involvement. She has learned a lot in the past year and we are looking forward to send her to second grade in the same school. They challenge kids to reach their full potential and they have strong academic programs. The teachers are very dedicated and since the school is built in 2010,it is equipped with all the latest technology. We just love this school and it is the main big reason, we don't want to move out of this area.
