My daughter was a student at Abercrombie Academy (AA) from PK3 through 5th grade (2003 2011), and the wonderful educational start she received at AA prepared her well for intermediate and secondary schools! She will graduate at the top of her class in May 2018 from a large, highly ranked public high school, and I give AA much credit for making this achievement possible! In the course of my daughter’s childhood, I have made many decisions on her behalf that will have implications for the rest of her life. I had never intended to send my daughter to private elementary since she would have had access to excellent public schools, and I consciously revisited my private school decision at the end of each and every school year. I do believe, however, that my decision to keep my daughter at AA for those crucial early years from PK3 to 5th grade is one of the best I have ever made in my life!

More than than a school, it feels like a family. Teachers take really good care to build good character and teach good manner.

Having worked in the public school system and now able to stay home with my kids I could not have imagined a better environment and loving atmosphere for my children. I tell everyone they should check this place out!

This will be our 5th year at Abercrombie Academy - we couldn't be happier with our decision to enroll here - my children thrived under the care and mentorship of the teachers - the curriculum is challenging but the school delivers excellent results in nationwide standardized scores the last few years. The staff - from front desk, after school care and school administrators are all nurturing and knows the students' characters and personality well. Well worth our investment for a strong academic foundation.

Founded in 1969 by Cathy Abercrombie, Abercrombie prides itself with high academic standards, highly qualified and trained teachers, and a small student/teacher ratio. Mrs. Abercrombie retired in 2011 and on April 21, 2014, the Abercrombie family regained full ownership of Abercrombie Academy. As an accredited, independent, private school, we do not have to "teach" to a state-mandated test but rather teach the whole child. We look forward to continuing our traditions of hands-on learning with our STEAM-based curriculum (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics), field trips, guest speakers, musical performances and extracurricular activities that set our school apart. Abercrombie is accredited by the Texas Alliance of Accredited Private Schools (TAAPS) and affiliated with PSIA academic competitions, Duke University's Talent Identification Program (TIP), STEM Education Coalition, Scripps National Spelling Bee, and the Anti-Defamation League as a "No Place for Hate (R)" campus. We are proud of our students' exemplary Iowa Assessments scores that continually rank in the top of the nation. We encourage our parents to become involved in our PTO and PSIA academic competitions. Our STEAM and Lego summer camps are a great way to keep minds sharp, have fun and prevent the summer slide. We welcome you to schedule a visit and tour our lovely 4-acre campus. Now accepting applications to register for summer camps and the 2017-2018 school year. GO ABERCROMBIE ARMADILLOS!

This is our first year at Abercrombie with our daughter enrolled in Kindergarten, and could not be happier. We love the nurturing teachers who know all of the children in the school and the experienced administrators and staff who are always there to answer any questions and add so much to our child’s school experience. We are very happy with the STEAM-based curriculum and hands-on teaching method that is implemented at Abercrombie with the wide range of field trips, extracurricular activities and community projects. Our daughter loves being involved in the after school programs that Abercrombie offers such as Art, Tae Kwon Do, Computer, Drama and Dance…just to name a few. The Science and Computer labs are top notch and the Art teacher is wonderful with all the children. We love the low student to child ratio, the individual attention each child receives and the after school teachers and staff are exceptional. The campus is charming, clean and offers a “home-like” feel every time you enter it. Abercrombie has a nature trail and the playgrounds are well kept and safe. It has been our experience that Abercrombie, its administration and teachers always have the best interest of the students in mind and welcome parent feedback. The students love when the founder, Cathy Abercrombie visits the campus to read a book during library time or attend the student’s musicals. I highly recommend Abercrombie Academy and we look forward to enrolling our youngest child in the Pre-School next year

My older son attends Abercrombie Academy’s preschool, and my younger son will start there next year. Abercrombie Academy is a gem! The first three words that come to mind when I think of the school are safe, loving, and experienced. Here are a few of the things I like most about the school: It provides a good balance between academics and fun. My son’s fine motor skills have improved greatly, and now in Pre-K he is learning to read and do math, but there is still plenty of time for recess and fun activities. They also provide after-school options like basketball, science & engineering, and more. It is well-established and has been around at least since I was a kid – my two siblings and I all attended Abercrombie Academy as children. I have very fond memories of the years I spent in school there, and my older son is loving his time there as well. The school-day teachers and the aftercare staff in the preschool have years of experience, and it shows. They know just how to handle the kids in a loving and gentle, but firm, way that provides guidance in social skills and manners, and learning to care about others, while having fun and enjoying school. The classrooms and playground are charming and cozy. The preschool building has just four classrooms, (each with a fantastic teacher) so it’s nice and small, just the right size for 3- and 4-year-olds. The preschoolers also do lots of “homey” activities like baking, which the kids love. The pre-K class does fun field trips. The administrative staff is great. I highly recommend Abercrombie Academy as a wonderful “home away from home” for kids to learn and play during the school year and summers.

The reviewer from Sept. 8 was difficult to follow, but everything he/she wrote is the exact opposite experience our son and we experienced during his 2 years of schooling at Abercrombie. We came to know the teachers and administrators well and every parent we know always found them very caring, kind, professional and fair. Seems like there might be more to that weird story and I, for one, take the review with a grain of salt.

Abercrombie Academy is a great private school. We have been with the school for more then a decade now.Three of our kids have graduated from this school and moved onto the public school system where they have been appreciated and applauded because of the ground work laid down by the great teachers at Abercrombie Academy.Three children of our family are currently enrolled and we are genuinely pleased by the all the changes and improvements brought into action by the administration and staff.Parent feed back is being taken into account and curriculum is generally improved.I'm hopeful and happy to see even more improvements by the next academic year.

Sending your child to Abercrombie Academy is the WORST thing you can do to your child. My child was literally bullied by his own teacher. After five years in this school, my son has endured emotional distress. Beware parents - children don't talk. The administrators had him so scared to say anything. Now that he is in a new school, he is a completely new person. His confidence is returned, and he talks all the time, now. My child's rights as a human being were violated. He was even denied field trips because his teacher would have him so anxious, he couldn't participate Your child will leave this school handicapped! If your child is a boy, he will be picked on, and denied rights and voice. If your child gets a girl bullying him, HE will be blamed; not the girl. my child was pushed, by a girl, into a younger classmate. He yelped about it, and was drug into the principle's office; not the girl student. She was NEVER reprimanded. He was then yelled at by the principle, the teacher, and the school head master. They yelled at him until he began hyperventilating. They actually brag about how girls are treated better than boys. They even tell parents how boys should be treated like animals. The biggest disappointment in their administration is the owner who masquerades as a doting educator. Don't be fooled. She is a business woman.

A traditional school with the perfect balance of being academically challenging and having an amazing and nurturing teaching staff and administration. I love EVERYTHING about this school. The campus is beautiful, the children are wonderful and our families are amazing. Go Abercrombie Armadillos!

I'm a parent of two children, both of whom are currently attending Abercrombie Academy, and my experience with the school over the course of past five years has been nothing short of wonderful. The teachers, administrative staff and principal have always been attentive to my children and their needs. Academically, and socially, my children are given every support, plus I've found class sizes at all grade levels to be perfect for learning. The curriculum and method of teaching encourages students to think deeply, independently and analytically, which I've found to be great asset as my older one prepares for middle school next year while my younger one prepares for first grade. For parents looking for a well rounded pre-school through elementary education for their kids in a nurturing environment, I would highly recommend this school.

Great atmosphere for the kids. Reminds me of my school days where grades mattered and we are thought to think.

My children attended Abercrombie for many years, until we had to leave because one graduated from 5th Grade. One of our daughters is now in the 7th grade and, through the Duke TIPS program, was able to write the SAT. Her reading and writing scores ranked her in the 50th percentile when ranked against outgoing Seniors - that is phenomenal!! The education she received at Abercrombie was a huge contributor to this success! There is a saying...'If you can read, you will always succeed' and Abercrombie has always developed GREAT readers. Thank you to Mrs Abercrombie and the entire teaching staff! Our daughters are well on their way to success and we appreciate your contribution to this success!! From: A former Abercrombie Parent

My kids have been at Abercrombie now for 2 yrs (& will continue for a 3rd). We started when the old admin staff were in place. Initially we had no issues, our kids were happy and excelling. Upon the abrupt departure of the previous admin I came to realize their shortcomings. Immediately my husband & I took the initiative to become more involved with the school and to properly voice our concerns. I'm extremely happy with the new admin and principal. They continuously keep parents in the loop, PTO meetings have been set up and they are constantly striving to make our kids the best. Every school has it's ups and downs, but you know it's a strong school when the owners and principal are always smiling and get to know every student like they are their own child.

I am a grandmother of two students in the Pre-School. The teachers are WONDERFUL. The entire staff in the pre-school building are loving, caring and truly attend to each child's needs. Both of my grandchildren Love school because of Abercrombie's learning environment. It is Fun to learn with extra special classes like Music, computers, Spanish and P.E. Pre-K has field trips which are all done with learning and fun in mind. This is the second year my grandson has gone to Abercrombie and they are signed up for next year! We can't wait.

This is my daughter's second year attending Abercrombie. We could not be happier with the education she is receiving. The administration and Abercrombie family have committed to developing an innovative and thorough curriculum. My Kindergartener is quickly outpacing her friends in the well known neighborhood public school. I highly recommend you look into Abercrombie if you are interested in the advantages a private school education can provide your child.

I know it is just the beginning of the school year but I have been so pleased with the school and its transfer back to the Abercrombie family without any major disruptions. My children have been attending Abercrombie for several years and I am really impressed with the faculty (many of whom are specialists) and the caring staff. I feel like Abercrombie is one of the best kept secrets in the Northwest Houston area and the lovely campus is tucked back in a residential area. Impressive standardized test scores last year so I know they are on the right track for a small private school. Also like they offer a variety of after school activities. My children and I are extremely pleased.

My son has been in preschool and preK here in Abercrombie and we couldn't sing enough praises for Mrs Marsalis, Mrs Risdal and the rest of the team in the preschool building who nurtured the students like their own. My son loves going to school and has learnt so much from academics, to social skills and general knowledge. They organize fun activities and get parents involvement in field days, school performance and special lunches. I will be sending my son to K Abercrombie and transferring my 1st grader into Abercrombie in the next academic year. I believe as long as parents get involve, give constructive feedback and build good rapport with the team, this is the right school and environment for the kids. As for the plummeting student enrollment - this is quite possibly also due to the economy - in any case, a small class size means more one to one with your child!
