Our child transferred to SLHS before the start of their junior year and we saw great improvement with them academically over the next two years. SLPS's ASD programs are very effective and caring. We felt like our child was being taken care of in a way that allowed them to become better, not only academically, but as a young adult. The previous school system they were enrolled in left us feeling as though our child was tolerated but with some prejudice because of their ethnicity and ASD diagnosis. SLPS never felt that way. Our child graduated on time and with a good GPA. The programs that SLHS offered have had a large and direct impact even now, years later. We feel blessed to have been able to have our child attend school here.

The school system is great. Most teachers are great. The district has an amazing system for supporting children with special needs of all variations. If you are a parent with a legit concern though, don't even try to address the school or board. You will be ignored. The security at this school is not up to par with any other surrounding school and the superintendent is not even close to willing to address that. They believe their policies are amazing when in reality they are not. I expect with the level of community support, taxes directed for the schools, and resources, this school would have security and policies in place so no kid ever went to school in fear of their lives. But they simply are not ready for that conversation.
