This school is meh for the least part, I mean I’m 13 and I can tell some teachers and counselor are there for the check. I had a group of boys call racial slurs and call me other bad names about me, when I came to the counselors about it with tears coming down my eyes all they did was give me a box of tissues and said to go back to my class now for context the group of boys were in all my classes. I went home that day because of my fight not to go back To the classroom the next day I heard what happened to them and all they got was a lunch detention these boys didn’t stop bullying students like me and physically/mentally bullied a special ed kid. The lack of discipline absolutely kills this school. If you have an Neurotypical kid this is not the place for you, and the only way the teacher will actually like you if your one of the popular kids this is very annoying. I hope for the best for future students.Sorry for grammar mistakes

When called to the school to address an issue, the lady that answered the phone was rude, short talking to rush the conversation and hung up on me before addressing the issue. Other than this, there are no other known issues.

At the beginning of this school year, I switch both of my kids to this Hillcrest Middle and I must say that I have no regrets with the change. Both of them are flourishing at the school. I get very few reports of bullying or discipline issues occurring at the school and the teaching appears to be very good. Hillcrest is a well managed school and provides a great overall environment for students to grow.

I wish i could say that this is the best school i have ever been in but i would be lying. Ever since i have been going to this school i have been constantly harassed by the staff at HMS. The teachers at this school think that the best way to stop a problem is immediately referral without looking into the matter at all. The way the school is runned is so 1960, what do i mean by that well it is overwhelmed by white students 61% of the students are white, and the percent of minority is just above 30%. Low-income and underserved students are at a 43% rate and majority of those students are falling or on the path to falling This show's that it does not matter who comes to this school the school is only going to care for the white students. What im trying to say is if your not white or come form a whealthy family please do not come to HMS.

My nephew he's My nephew was assaulted in front of the teacher who was at the door on Thursday, February 17, 2022 and the teacher did absolutely nothing. I went to the offices to talk to someone who could help me and nobody does anything. they attended to me that is racism my nephew is being physically and verbally assaulted and you do nothing I will have to go to the district or I will have to look for his superiors waiting for an answer and this does not lead to something more serious towards my nephew

Hillcrest Middle is a good, community middle school. Like many families, we were concerned about our children transitioning to middle school, but we have been very, very pleased with HMS. The 6th grade team works well to support the new students and families with the transition. The 6th grade counselor, administrator, and teachers are open and available. They provide grade level newsletters to help parents/students stay organized with work and plan fun activities to promote student successes. Overall instruction across the school is sound and standards-focused, with a few exceptions, and the workload/homework requirements have been reasonable - again, with a few exceptions. School spirit is strong, and several school-wide and grade level activities are held throughout the year. The teachers have gone above and beyond to support our children academically and socially. The teachers have been responsive to our emails and have provided extra support for our children when needed. Teachers are more than willing to spend extra time with students to clarify concepts and provide second-chances. The focus of this school is to support the whole child - developing good character and strong work ethic. Of course, there are students in the school who still exhibit less-than desirable behaviors. However, I believe this school works harder than most to show children how to be self-aware, caring, and hard-working. We appreciate Hillcrest Middle and are thankful for our children’s experiences there.

It was horrendous. Thankfully, we were only forced to endure the cesspool for a few weeks before we secured a place in a decent school. The principal's only method of discipline is out of school suspension, regardless of the offense--as demonstrated by the 13% Out of School Suspension rate: 3% higher than the state average, and 9% higher than the national average. There is no effort to educate or redirect students who make mistakes or get into trouble, unless you are a white family friend or well connected local, of course. This school does not care at all about children who are new to the area, or whose parents cannot foster social and/or career advancement for the administration.

Very disappinted in this school. It might have acceptable test scores but that only tells part of the story. Many of the students here are entitled snobs that have never been told no to anything. Bullying runs rampant and when reported to administration they supposedly "investigate" but take no action whatsoever. Most of the teachers are decent but there are a few who rely on chromebooks fully to teach their classroom. Class sizes are quite large, especially in related arts classes. Some of teachers think the most effective way to discipline these children is to scream at them and to give out referrals for every single petty offense. A lot more focus should be put into teaching the students, staff and administration that mutual respect for one another goes a long way.

Experience has been very disappointing to say the least! I have requested information from counselors and vice principals and have not heard from them. They worry more about dress code and if kids look at their phones rather than what the teachers are doing in the classrooms!

The principal gives every parent, student, grandparent, etc her personal cell number and actually responds if you use it. Communication has been phenomenal - actually a little overkill sometimes. My only complaint is that the sports are weird - some parents coach some of the teams.... there should be a staff coach each sport in my opinion. And football is through the high school - so all middle schools that feed Hillcrest have one team.

Terrible staff, no communication, too much gossip in the front office! Teachers want you to do their work to them!

I happen to be a student at Hillcrest Middle and I feel that all the teachers are caring and kind and always try to help you do your best however that works 3 ways the student must try, the teachers must help, and the parents must push their kid to do the best that they possibly can. I also happen to be in every single advanced class that is offered to seventh graders. I am taking algebra 1 (a 9th grade high school course) English for the gifted and talented and advanced literature. So right now I have 1 high school credit but by the time I finish the eighth grade I will have 4. Although Hillcrest is lacking in the extra-curricular activities, they are going all they way with academics 100% I believe. I saw on some of the comments that teacher were not communicating to parents that there kid was failing, but you can always ask ANY of the teacher for your grade and there is the parent portal where teachers post all the students grades, and there is a progress report which comes out 4-5 weeks (plenty of time to bring your grade up) before your final grade comes out. Hms is awesome! ~Abby Mendez 7th grader at hms

The teachers at Hillcrest Middle School do not communicate very well with the parents. They don't notify the parents about anything and when you email the teachers requesting information, the teachers respond by saying they have talked to the child. Well, that is great, now how about trying to talk to me? I am the parent! This has happened a few times by different teachers, so I am pretty disappointed by the lack of involvement by the teachers with the parents.
