This school was nice for my conforming child, but traumatic for my child with a learning difference. If you are considering moving to this district, I recommend reading the short story "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" and consider your feelings abou it.

Cottage Street School is truly a gem! Our boy have attended 1st through 5th grade here, and it impresses us how much personal attention these students receive! The teachers are kind and lovely (though there is a grump or two), and the front office staff is helpful. The PTO is very strong at this school, with great leadership and high parental involvement. The leadership is excellent and caring, and the volunteers and parents are truly lovely. While I do agree that there aren't a lot of special programs/assistance for students with differing needs, it is a small school system. I don't know much about that aspect, as neither of my boys needed additional help. We feel very lucky that our boys were able to experience Cottage! Thanks, CSS and CSS PTO!

Much like another reviewer has reported, we have two children at cottage Street elementary school. One is a high performer and one is on an IEP. I completely act go the fact that Mr. Madden is useless. Actually, I think that he is more concerned with directing traffic into the parking lot in the morning, then he is in the well-being and the academic advancement of the students, in particular, students with special needs. I wish I could name one initiative that he has undertaken within the last two or three years as the new principal but I don't think that there is one. On the other hand, the teachers are wonderful and do the best they can with a woefully lacking leader. Overall, there is a wonderful community feeling at the school, and of course, for students like my high achieving son, it is a great place to be. Time for some leadership change. The vice principal is out as of September 2014, I'd like to see the same for the principal as well.

I have two children- one is typical (average) and the other has learning disabilities. My typical child has had largely good experiences at Cottage. My learning disabled child has had a really bad time there. The special ed staff is fine, but the principal (Mr. Madden) is terrible. The teachers seem to really dislike him. He is hard to talk to, doesn't listen to parents or staff, and basically seems not to care about students (especially if they cost the school money). You are better off at East Elementary or Heights if you have a child in the sped program.

My both kids are in this school and my older one is in 2/3 Multiage class and he is so proud of it to choose that class. The learning environment is so unique and still he finds that he learns something new everyday and he is getting so matured, understanding and best in everything he does. The teachers and all staff are so cooperative and know the best in each and every student. The awesome fact is - it is not the kids who love their principals and it is also their parents. Both the principals are so dedicated,so attentive and I don't find anymore words to describe on how we are happy that our kids go to this school. It is good that we took the decision of moving our kids from Andover schools to sharon Cottage school.
