I'm impressed by the teachers and support staff at the Wilkins school! They have wonderful, dedicated staff and are truly committed to the success of their students. My child comes home each day and is excited to tell me about what he's learned and feels like he's part of a wonderful little community!

My son has been attending West Elementary School since kindergarten. Year after year the teachers attitude just gets worse and worse except in second grade she was an amazing teacher too bad she left to teach other school. I have been expressing my concerns with his third grade teacher by messages and yet I haven't got any positive feed back. My son has been bullied from particular kids I teach him at home to ignore all of them yet the teacher always takes the other child side which I never complained to her but the other say she told my son " You are lucky to even be here" what is that supposed to mean? You don't tell that to an 8 years old child doesn't matter how much you dislike him. School states cafeteria door stays open until 8:30 am for morning arrival but if by 8:30am he is not in the classroom he is marked absent then the nurse calls me at work asking why he is not in school I get worried because I dropped him off inside school to later find out she marked him absent for being late , not TARDY but absent. Again I messaged her expressing my concern and NOTHING . I am pulling my son out of this school as soon as possible. Mrs Bermuda is really nice and kind. The new principal has an outstanding understanding but the teacher need to work on their attitudes since they deal with children all day every day. I have seeing many parents pulling their kids off for the same reason.

West Elementary is a dreadful school. The MCAS scores are among the lowest in the state, which says A LOT about the competency of the teaching staff, the "support staff," and administration. West needs a major overhaul. This place needs to start over. Get rid of EVERYONE and refresh the building, which looks like it has not been updated since the 1950s. (It's 2013. Time for air conditioning, which can only be found in the secretary's and the principal's office. The kids and teachers? They suffer.)

My daughter currently attends the West Elementary and has for the second year now. My daughter has had the worst time at this school. Since she started, she has been bullied by both her teacher and the students. I have reported ever issue, concern and problem to the teachers, principal, title 1 specialist, assistant superintendent and anyone else that would listen. However, things stayed pretty much the same day after day and now she is in her second year there and it is worst then ever. From my understanding this school seems to think that it is normal behavior for other children smack, punch, pinch, kick, push, hit, pluck and drag my daughter by ears. I am currently at the point where I am ready to pull my daughter out of school and deal with the consequences.
