As a former employee, I can proudly say I had a great relationship with most of the students and staff at BCES. However, some of my colleagues of color and I agreed we experienced discrimination from Principal Eric Taylor to some extent. Many of us removed ourselves before the start of this school year due to this toxic work environment. During my employment, teachers left me positive feedback after working in their classes, with themselves and their students even asking me when I would return. However, my former boss was quick to belittle me, switch me to a special needs classroom that I had no credentials/support/say in transferring to, and even told me that "no one will want to work with you next year," which went completely against what my colleagues have told me. I hope this is investigated further, because the last thing schools need are more educators (especially POC educators) leaving the classroom due to that kind of treatment.

A new principal is bringing in the energy and activities the children need, including those outside the school day. We enjoyed the outside movie, where there was a raffle to sticky string the principal, Mr. Taylor. We attended the book fair, which included fun stations for the children, education for the parents, and more free educational resources for the children. This school has been a good experience for my child. We've been fortunate to engage with teachers who inform us about how our child performs well or not in situations. This helps us communicate better with our children at home and align or help our teachers learn and grow our children. My one suggestion. Keep showing up and having these fun events so we can get to know the teachers, see them interact with our children, and learn how much more we should appreciate them. During a school event, my child went up to one of their teachers and gave them a BIG hug....and I thought, how lucky am I, and how lucky is my child to have that and for me to see that. So thank you, Brier Creek Elementary. I see you making this world better for my child, and I want to see more of you so I can continue that guidance and support.

This school has been a terrible experience for my son. I'm aware of all of the issues due to staffing as it relates to the pandemic; however, the communication with staff and parents has been horrible. It feels as if the teachers and administration don't care about my son's success. I read reviews prior to his arrival at this school and its sad to say I have to agree with some of the reviews about feeling partially isolated due to race. This is a horrible school is a great location.

Most of the teachers that I loved left due to Administration. The school is unable to keep an Asst. Principal. So many teachers complained about the current principal that there was a "survey" about her management style. Nothing has changed. Poorly behaving and performing teachers and the principal drive away all the quality administrators and teachers! The message is clear, WCPSS does not really care as long as there is a body in a given position!

I’m trying to get my child out of this school. We Don’t want our child to be under the care of the current teacher and/or Principal. They have a very high turnover rate for teachers. this peaks poorly of the current principal. You can do your own research but once this new principal started - all the great teachers left and I mean around 90% of the staff. We also strongly feel that kids are being treating like they are in a military academy- she is too strict. It’s a great idea to have fun and creative ways or learning things- It’s proven they will retain more.

My family adores Brier Creek, mostly because of the awesome staff there. My kids have been successful academically, have met great friends, have all the opportunities they need, and have had teachers that have connected with them and they have liked and respected. There is always going to be some relationship issues with kids, that’s part of growing up and them learning how to get along with others. I think the teachers have done a good job at balancing between letting them work it out and knowing when to step in. The year round schedule is really good for us. The 3 week breaks are just right and good for the kids to have during the year rather than a stupid-long break all at one time. Track out camps are easy to find, I just have to remember to sign up!

Overall I feel that it is a good school. I would, however, have to agree that something is missing. I adore our teachers and administrative staff and while I know that new leadership has its ups and downs; we need to get it together. The PTA does so much and the teachers try so hard. We as parents need to speak positively about our school and offer solutions to the leadership.

This school has recently fallen from around 300 in the state to below 600 which should be a clear indicator of the abilities of this school and its leader. Several parents have recently either pulled their child from Brier Creek and left the area due to leadership or have expressed that they are considering doing so.

My child has had some really good experiences at this school with a few teachers, staff, and peers. But all of this is overshadowed by the bad experiences with a few teachers and a bully administration.

Everything seems to be fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants or as I mentioned before "throw everything at the wall and see what sticks" attitude toward education. The overall ranking of the school, down from 292nd in the state to 610, should let you know that they haven't a clue as to what they are doing.Lack of communication has become a major issue between parents and teachers this year, at least in our experience, and it shows it overall academic performance of students. Yes there are sometimes issues when a new leader takes over but EVERYTHING seems to be a bigger issue then it was before under the current principal.

Absolutely horrible!! In fact we are in the process of looking for a home outside of this schools area so we can remove him.

I'm hopeful that the new leadership will turn the school around and bring it back to the way it used to be 5 years ago. We have had no communication from either the principal or my child's teacher and we just completed our first week. I have no way of getting in touch with either except to call the school and ask to speak to them. This is not the way to start the year off. : (

My experience with this school was ok prior to the former principal leaving. It has gone downhill too quickly with the new administration.

Bullying and Physical abuse.... My 8 years old daughter attended Brier creek for the last 2 years; her experience with bullying start almost the first week; when a girl told her “shorty” and she will never going to have any friends because she is ugly.We reported this incident to principle and we were told the issue has been handled; however my daughters is keeps complained about group of girls teasing her and call her names like shorty, ugly, ..etc, during this time we continue to communicate with school staff, and voiced our concerns multiple times, however nothing changed and the complains from my daughters went on and on.Last night I received call from the principle assistance apologizing about an incident where my daughters got hit on her eye and chest by a girl while her friends are watching; we ask her why didn’t she tell us about the incident her answer was “I was scared because the girls told me they will hit me again if I told my parents”.-Why the school did not notify us immediately and why wait almost 8 hours to tell us ???-Where the teachers at when my daughters got forced to go to the field during PE ???At this point I had no choice but to report this incident to the department of education, as I’m concerned about the safety of my daughter. Please DO NOT send you child to Brier Creek Elementary School.

We have been at BCES for two years and have had a great experience! Dr. Chambers is extremely visible, supports her staff and the students and runs a tight ship. We are constantly informed about what is going on via e-mail and phone and the teachers - as well as staff - are attentive, caring, professional and on point. My 5th grader thoroughly enjoys BCES and always has positive things to say about BCES. As a parent, I always feel welcomed and there are LOTS of wonderful ways throughout the year to get involved and be a part of the school's success. I am almost sad to have to leave and transition to middle school. BCES Rocks!!!
