We are new to the area, and our daughter is going to PGES from another zone (the other school is capped). We had no idea what to expect given the not-great ratings, but we have overall been very happy with the school (and the ratings make absolutely no sense to us whatsoever!). Our daughter seeks challenge in school, and her teachers have been great about doing the best they can to help get her there, answer our questions, etc. (Having any support for GT/AIG is new to us, as the district we were in before in another state had zero support for teachers or parents/students in that situation.) The principal is very nice and supportive. Our daughter's teacher has been very kind and helpful in working both with our daughter and with us. My only substantial concern is that there seems to be far too much food-oriented rewarding at the school, which is not universal in the district, but too common from what I have gathered (it's the same for our son's middle school). This is complicated and concerning if there are health or behavioral concerns around food for some children, as we deal with, particularly with no school nurse on the grounds the vast majority of the time (that is a state/district issue). That said, the school is good about working with us when food presents a challenge in school. Overall, we have been as happy in most ways, and in some ways happier, with PGES as we were with our kids' former school (rated an 8). It's been a very good experience overall.

This is an amazing school with top notch administrators who jump in to substitute when no one else will. My child thoroughly enjoyed having the Principal as his sub one day. The weekly communication is above average from the principal. He updates us weekly. Teachers are engaged and the staff know most children by their names. Not many schools can attest to all of these attributes. This school is severely under rated. The administrators and the entire staff care about this school.

Administration is very mean and does not care about children.

If I could go back in time I would not have sent my son here. He went for 2 years, 4th grade teacher was fine, 5th grade teacher was not good and we should have switched out of her classroom. I chaperoned an out of town field trip and was very disappointed to see the attitudes of the teachers towards the students and there should have been more parent involvement. From that experience I will always be a chaperone on trips with my other children. The city of Raleigh after school staff was also concerning. I’ve had much better experience with YMCA staff.

This is such an amazing school with wonderful, engaged teachers and administrators. Our son had a fantastic experience in first grade. His teacher was great on working with each child. Her room was always open for volunteering (my mom was retired and would volunteer when she could). His classroom was fun yet organized and his class was diverse which was great. Also, the school security was the best I have ever seen. The check in/out system was very secure and efficient. We felt very safe dropping our son off and were looking forward to eventually having him ride the bus one day.Unfortunately, we had to move away due to work, but would recommend Pleasant Grove to everyone looking for a positive learning experience for their child.

I love this school. I feel like it is a private school experience without the cost. Most importantly, my kids love this school. I am hoping and crossing my fingers that a middle school (and highschool) get built on the same campus (wink wink).

We have been here since inception and are very happy with our experience. The teachers and leadership care passionately for our students and are open to new ideas.
