I love Pine Hollow. My children felt safe and included in the school. The teachers are wonderful and try to get to know the students. The admin team is easily approachable. My voice was heard as well as my children's voices.

In comparison to most other schools, I suppose that PHMS isn't that bad, however there are still many flaws with how things work. Second Step is stupid in essentially every way and I know of some teachers who don't even enforce answering the questions or watching the videos each week. It just cuts out more elective and lunch time, which are already short as it is. Clubs are another problem, they only last for a FS period, which is just 35 minutes, which is more like 25-30 minutes after attendance and additional instruction. They also only occur once a week on Fridays, so if you have/get an outside club and it coincidentally rains every Friday, then good luck having any fun in your club. Tests/quizzes also occur almost daily, and if you don't have an assessment on a day, you'll sure have lots of homework, and the teachers will make it known that you didn't complete an assignment. This school, like most schools, suffers with the common trope of picking random people who don't want to answer a question to answer, or people that look like they're not paying attention. Despite this problem, the way each teacher teaches is unique, and not all of them rely on the common HS lecture style. I must say however, the teachers do and will support you, and if you're not feeling good about your learning, they will help you change it, that is if you're on their good side or if you have a good teacher. Specials, now known as Electives, are generally good and there is typically a wide range of choices you have to choose from. The amount of choices you get is ruined by the fact that you only get 1 choice for an elective if you choose a year-long one and two if you choose a semester elective. Another issue is that despite being a BYOD school they discourage the use of bringing other devices. [Macbooks, phones, etc.] In some situations, your teacher will require you to take an assessment [that usually is county or state-wide but sometimes it can just be a regular test] with a WCPSS chromebook or an otherwise ancient computer that takes 10 minutes to boot up. Staff and teachers also shun the use of phones, earbuds, and anything electronical. If you are seen with any device in the hallway they immediately confiscate it in the office like it's taking candy from a baby. It's to the point where you can't even use them at lunch any more, so what's even the point of having them? To conclude this review, PHMS is not the worst of the worst, but it wouldn't be my first option to go to.

Could be worse? Gives suspensions for dumb reasons, especially if you have a track record. A history of misbehaving means you get ISS for coming a minute after the bell, and apparently skipping a class or cursing in a casual conversation with a friend is a worse deed than screaming slurs at people and active discrimination. They do nothing about bullying or violence, and some of the teachers just make the kids feel bad. If education is a priority above your own mental health, totally recommend!!

My daughter is excelling academically at PHMS and more importantly she loves going to school everyday. I was both shocked and elated to learn that she did NOT want her 6th grade school year to end. The teachers genuinely care about the students and are responsive to our concerns. They also have many interesting food experiments that keep kids engaged in learning (ex. Oreos to simulate phases of the moon, graham cracker crumbs and marshmallow fluff for layers of the Earth, etc.)ents that keep the students engaged in learning (ex: Oreos used to simulate phases of the moon, graham crackers and marshmallow fluff to simulate the layers of the Earth, etc.).

Teachers are great - Great place to learn. Administration is poor. Poor planning and lack of leadership from the top are a missing ingredient.
