This school is wonderful and any child is lucky to attend. The Children are extremely friendly, staff goes out of their way to make you feel welcome. I even got a personal reminder phone call that it was early day, which was such a personal touch. If your child has special needs, and individual plant is put into place immediately and your child’s need will be met. I live the small town feel if this school, and how they encourage outdoor play.

We have two children who attend Harmony, and have been in the community for 6 years. We love this school so much! One of my children has an extensive IEP and is very well served.

The community within this school is wonderful- the families and students are all really nice and good people. BUT-if you have a child with special needs, or suspect a learning disability-this is NOT the school for you. I am the third parent that has taken their child out of the school because of this.We were at Harmony for TK-K-1. In 1st grade I suspected my child had a learning disability-strongly suspected she was dyslexic. I told the teacher and was told "she is just a slow reader". They did not offer to test her, they did not do a student study team to see if there were any additional red flags that would indicate a learning disability-nothing. They put her in a reading club.We left in 2cd grade and I told the new school I was suspicious of dyslexia. They tested her and sure enough, she has a specific learning disability ( dyslexia ) and we had an IEP within 60 days. Now, after 4 years, IEP meetings, parent advocacy classes, etc. I know it was wrong for Harmony to pass off my concerns-instead of testing her as I asked. Please dont send your child here if they will need any extra support.

We are so happy we stumbled upon Harmony exploring the backroads of Sonoma County. The beautiful campus drew us in, but it is the caring teachers, teaching assistants, principal and other wonderful support staff (garden teacher, music teacher, school counselor, and cafeteria chef making delicious homemade food) that make us feel very blessed to have our son learning and growing in this nurturing community. I have been impressed by the hands-on and collaborative culture of the school, which I think begins with a principal who supports teachers, and brings the problem-solving attitude and resources needed to support students who are having more challenges in the classroom or with peers for whatever reason. Communication home is great, with a weekly class newsletter, as well as a weekly school-wide e-bulletin. Amazing for a public school, every classroom has a teaching assistant. The parent community is involved in a laid-back sort of way, and I feel overall parents and school are supporting a happy, healthy childhood for these lucky kids.

Finding the utopia of Harmony has been the best gift that a parent could ever wish for!! This school has somehow figured out the magic formula that is needed to effectively teach our kids in the 20th century. When I toured the school, I was beyond impressed with how respectful the students were, empathy of the teachers and THE BEAUTY OF THE GROUNDS. It is an idyllic setting with a backdrop of redwood trees, a beautiful organic garden, a salmon creek, waterfalls.....my husband and I both agree that we wish WE COULD attend the school. The principal seems to effectively promote the importance of education being nature based learning mixed with technology in order to round out children to have sensory experiences (and the peace/compassion that comes along with it) as well as the tools necessary to face the future in a competitive marketplace. also love the fact that my daughters get to experience the amazing organic garden by growing their own vegetables and also cooking with them. So happy this school is in my backyard!
