I’ve had three children move through this school. It’s been excellent.

I had to pull my child out of Brookhaven. Different schools have different personalities, which reflect the personalities of the people who do the hiring. Some teachers at this school are self-absorbed. The school is too focused on test scores. Some of us parents witnessed a couple of teachers being very poorly treated. We didn't like the social hierarchy among staff and administration. This is not a healthy environment for children.

As a Parent this School was terrible. The staff were rude and not caring for my 12 year old autistic son. Too much home work and the bullies were rampant around here. The teachers were not that great. Avoid this school as much as you can and I recommend a different middle school either Twin Hills or Sebastopol independant charter school.

My daughter attended Brookhaven for middle school (grade 6-8), and had such a positive experience. We selected BH over other schools in the area due to the warm and supportive atmosphere of the school. From the administration, to the teachers, to office staff and students -- we were often impressed by the overall kind and caring culture of the school. We loved that the principal was out greeting students and parents in the parking lot as they arrived each morning. The selection of electives was unmatched by other local schools (wood shop, drama, ceramics, etc). But most importantly, our daughter was 100% prepared for her first year of high school. The transition was seamless, and she and her BH friends appeared to have a much easier transition than kids coming from other middle schools. She was very well-prepared academically and earned a 4.0 GPA her first year at Analy. We recommend Brookhaven very highly.

Love, love, love Brook Haven. Our kids are in 1st and 5th grade and we love their multi-age program. It enables the kids to learn at their own pace. Especially K-2, as your child needs to learn concepts by end of 2nd grade -- and this program enables them to mature at their own schedule. Also the multi-age program gives the students the ability to learn and teach kids younger than them by solidifying their learning.

We just moved into the district and couldn't be happier with Brook Haven. We chose it very specifically over other schools in Sebastopol, mostly because of the campus (it's one of the best I've seen) and the multi-age K-2 program. We love that our kids aren't segregated in just one age bracket and it both helped one kid catch up and is helping the other accelerate beyond his years. The teachers are amazing, and the class sizes are small, and there is a real sense of community around the school. There may not be official "extras" but there are lots of activities, field trips and the teachers keep the kids physically active. It's just a nice balanced place for the whole family.

Brook Haven is the find of Sebastopol. An amazing multi-age program in the early years and a wonderful connection all the way K-8. Forget all the other reviews - they are for another school. This is now a combined K-8 after Pine Crest Elementary School was closed. The amazing multi-age curriculum (K-2 classes) from Pine Crest has moved to Brook Haven. It's an old program that is cutting edge, even if the new administration doesn't get it completely. Class sizes are small, there is a great community, and a good balance between play and school. It's like Waldorf with good teaching and a more mainstream feel. Really, check it out.
