The disconnect between parents and the school is a wide gap that appears to be purposely kept that way. Examples-My son had NO room parent in his class, parents were not encouraged to attend the school counsel meetings, and most importantly we were left in the dark as to what we should be doing at home to support the schools teachings. Pto was an unwelcoming bunch, donations could not be tax write-offs as its not properly set up, meeting location was unclear to "new to the area" parents, and it seemed that everyone (principal included) was trying to just pass the time and not make any updates or changes to antiquated activities. And, if picking up your child (if a walker) be prepared for teenagers and young adults swearing/ fighting/ and acting like thugs in front of the building having little to NO supervision from the school.( Had to enter the building with my younger children while waiting for the dismissal bell, to avoid the foul language and activities, while the school personnel did nothing to stop the behavior.) Moved to a new district to gain a better school experience for my child.
