This is a great school for its standard academic focus. And more than that, they have a weekly report that goes out to the parents regarding conduct. This was especially great when our daughter was in Kindergarten particularly after coming off COVID isolation. I'm sorry to say she was often not conducting herself in an appropriate manner in public and she lacked self-control. This is age appropriate. Of course kids at this age often lack self-control. It was great to be on the same team with her teacher and the school psychologist. Everyone worked together to help each child speak respectfully, keep her hands to herself, and listen attentively to adults and peers. Over the course of the year and especially moving into 1st grade, we saw marked improvement in proper public behavior. Obviously, as parents, we were enthusiastic to make this work. And having the alignment with the school really helped. The school helps kids understand emotional intelligence and to recognize stress. It's so great when my daughter has to do a vaccination, she takes deep breaths to help calm herself down. This is included in the group counseling which is optional. We had to sign a form and opt into this training. It's not standard, but we think it's great. Quite unexpectedly our daughter's pediatrician ran a series of tests due to stomach troubles and we were surprised to find she had a host of food allergies. The school was enthusiastic to get the specific information to make sure she was safe. The cafeteria team, her teacher, and the school nurse wanted the documentation as quickly as possible to ensure there was no risk to her. Our daughter's teachers, her bus driver, the cafeteria staff, the principal, the team in the admin office, the nurse, the school psychologist, everyone is really devoted. We're lucky to be in this school district.

It was better before all the new housing developments cause the school to get overcrowded.

We recently moved here from Montgomery County and couldn't be more pleased with the school. We had ended up homeschooling our son after several years of watching his enthusiasm for school drop year after year to the point he asked to be homeschooled. Now, at Kemptown, he says he "loves school" and the difference between this school and is obvious the moment you walk in the door. It has much more of a community feeling, something I've desired for years. The counselor even called me on his first day to let me know if was going well. Thank you to all the staff who are always enthusiastic and welcoming and to Principal Canning for her leadership.

Kemptown alum here- I transferred to Kemptown from another Frederick county school in the mid-1990’s. Kemptown changed my life. At my old school, I had very few friends due to my shy nature, and I struggled in school. When I transferred to Kemptown the staff members were kind and attentive to all of their students. My teachers introduced me to other kids and facilitated our friendships. Many of those friendships have lasted to this day. My teachers quickly recognized which areas I excelled at and which areas I needed to improve. I remember many times that the staff and even some members of the PTA took extra time to work with me one-on-one. By the time I began the 5th grade I was a model student and I had a wonderful group of friends. I’m very pleased to read these more recent reviews of Kemptown and know that their tradition of unparalleled excellence has continued.

My kids have been at Kemptown for 6 years now and we have had nothing but great experiences there. The school staff from the janitors to the principal are A+ in my book. Our kids enjoy going to school and our oldest, in 5th grade, LOVES school and learning! Our PTA is fantastic and many parents are very involved in helping in both school and PTA activities. We looked for another home in the area but didn't find one in our school district so we decided not to move mainly because of the school itself. Our new principle is very involved and you can tell she LOVES her job and wants nothing but the best for the children! LOVE KES E.S.!

AMAZING. Having looked at multiple elementary schools in Montgomery and Frederick counties before choosing a home, we settled on a home in the Kemptown district and have been THRILLED with our decision. We have a child with some special needs, and the team at Kemptown has been extremely open, pro-active and supportive. Our child has made amazing progress since starting at Kemptown academically and socially. He feels loved there and adores all of the teachers/staff at Kemptown. The principal is phenomenal, involved, and receptive. Our child is in a class with a 15:1 student:teacher ratio unheard of in this area for a public school! We could not be happier with Kemptown and would recommend it to other parents without the slightest reservation.

Great School, Wonderful Principal who truly is caring and wanting each and EVERY student succeed! The School really does try hard to do activities and presentations for the students. Sometimes Resources are tight, but they really do make do with what they have.

We chose to move into Frederick County and the Urbana feeder program after disappointment with Montgomery Co schools. Don't be fooled by all the "greatness" MCPS brags about; test scores are only part of developing a child's life. Academics, character and well rounded arts and phys ed are outstanding at Kemptown. The school has excellent teachers who make sure kids are challenged and acedemics are outstanding. Test scores on the MSAs are fantastic. I can assure you there are many schools who do not incorporate character education in their curriculum, but Kemptown does and incororates it daily in their lessons. Teachers and staff always give that extra effort to the students, and we really appreciate it! Monrovia is the best kept secret in the area. If you want to get back to basics and insure your child has an excellent experience and education, this is the community for you.
