I go to this school. There are a few good teachers, but most of them are horrible. The school itself is falling apart, and he is in desperate need of repair. However, I say the overall learning experiences decent and sports are pretty good.

Very good above average school. Most the kids excel here academically. Glad my child goes here.

*for reference, im an 8th grader, asian, female*classes: like probably >99% of middle schools across america, very, very few classes teach you something worthwhile learning. one class, facs, is like home ec. it teaches you how to cook (ie; soups, pastas, cookies, etc), sewing/handstitching, embroidery, a basic home ec class. facs is a useful class but not all students are assigned this class, should they choose the arts rotation elective. little to none of the core classes taught from grades 6-8 provide any useful resources for the future. however, this is expected as most middle schools don't actually teach anything useful.teachers: the teachers are generally nice to the students. many try to make learning fun and teach thorough lessons. one teacher, in particular, the computer science teacher: not a good experience with him. more than once have i had friends in that computer science class say they don't feel comfortable around him and/or have told me weird things about him. some teachers act odd but ill just chalk that up to "quirky" personalities. they teach well enough and teach everything required in the curriculum.students: the students at this school. majority of them are white. there isn't much diversity at this school. many of them say slurs such as the n-slur, c-slur, f-slur, usually aimed at the black community, the asian community, and the queer/lgbtq+ community, consecutively. on more than one occasion have i been called any of these three slurs by cisgender, heterosexual, caucasion people who have no right to use those words aimed at me, an asian female. as well as this, many students dont pay much attention to their work either. lots of times have i heard students proud to have multiple failing grades in the grade book.i do not recommend this school to people. the overall environment is not very good and it is very easy for people to find the wrong friends as well. baker can be a better choice compared to some other middle schools. but we are not funded enough to provide other students with a safer, healthier environment for them to thrive in the places they should.

Baker is one of the smaller middle schools in MCPS which has its benefits and disadvantages, but I believe that the positivesgreatly outweigh the negatives. The schedule lacks some flexibility and is not able to offer as much of a variety of elective courses, but what is offered is geared towards the students interests. Teachers are very dedicated to their students and help to prepare them for high school and college. Baker ranks at the top of middle schools in the county as far as test scores are concerned. The staff is extremely accessible and always willing to work with parents and families to help students achieve success in school. It is sad to hear that some people have reported less than excellent experiences with this school, these must have been isolated and should not be generalized to the entire school or staff.
