I recommend choosing an another schoolIf you're looking for a school that is generous, accommodating and patient, and that supports children's development both academically and in terms of behavior over the long term.

At first glance, this school seems to be memorization, rote learning: "outdated" cliches. Well, I have to agree that this school is NOT for every kid (I know a few kids quit because it asks for too much). There is a lot of work to be done in mastering a language, especially English has so many exceptions! That's probably why they don't teach grammar in public school until 7th grade! - Memorization training takes up 10-15 minutes per week (my child improved so much in memorization skills! I can see this will benefit greatly in delivering speeches!) - Grammar takes up lots of time. Expect high school level grammar - Writing - tough requirement - Reading - great classic literature! Everything in US education has gone down in the name of progress. Classic Literature is not read any more. Shortcuts are in. How many musicians out there learn music without putting in the practice hours and memorizing the song so that they play the song better? My child transferred at the right point, which is 5th and 6th. 5th was still tough (not focused). But once the investment of time was put in, the return is huge. Very satisfied parent who jumped ship from a high ranked public school.

I had two children attend Middle Campus at Pinewood. The academics is very, very traditional and based on memorization. Lots of homework is consumed by memorizing lists of vocabulary words and regurgitating them with correct spelling the next day. Many of the teachers have been there for much too long and direct the curriculum and school dynamics based on outdated theories of education. Nothing here is "out of the box." As for social development, I saw many students leave because the school did not address bullying, cliques or social development. The family that founded Pinewood has good intentions, but is just missing the mark on whats truly important in child/adolescent development.
