I am a parents of 4 young children and currently have 3 attending Los Coyotes. I will say, hands down, this is an exceptional public school. Not only is the school ranked second elementary school in OC (based on test scores), it cultivates the whole well-being of the child (character, kindness, respect, arts, etc.). The teachers are so professional, dedicated and loving that there have been times I have gotten emotional. This is most likely due to the caliber of teachers the school attracts and administrative leadership dedicated to excellence. My husband and I moved into our neighborhood specifically for Los Coyotes and, I have to say, we do not regret it at all. One more thing to note, parents are really involved in their children’s school life here in a positive way. PTSO doesn’t have a clique mean girl vibe, but a very warm and open one.

If parents are complaining and whining about the issues at this school, it is because these parents are babying and siding with their kids because they think their kids are angels and can do no wrong... The staff at the school works with all the kids in making sure there is no bullying or issues and the office staff, Mrs Tanioka and Mrs. Brede are always available to talk to or call. They are both friendly, courteous, and listen to all parent concerns. parents need to let your kids be kids and stop thinking they are perfect and can do no wrong!!!!

The experience has been a trip and I would rate it as neutral because of the great families that attend and are involved, but also unsatisfactory as to what the school itself has to offer and how it handles issues. We have been in this school a while and it has been interesting to hear our children’s stories and experiences through the years, along with the experiences of other students and parents who have become our friends. LC is good in that they have solid test scores, a strong PTSO, and a close-knit community mentality. It is clear that the parents make this school, not the principal or teachers. The parents push their kids and hold them to a high standard, not the school. Do not mistake the “California Distinguished School” logo for more than it is. Look around as you’re driving around. Most schools in the area have this logo, so this really doesn’t set LC apart. There is no librarian, no music, no choir – nothing you would think a well-rounded education would have, unless you want to pay extra for occasional after school classes that they contract out. They had a P.E. teacher a few days a week, I think it was last year for the upper grades, but that ended. They are trying another fitness program this year and may carry over, but I’m not sure. Basically, by the time you figure out how the school is run and have the nerve to deal with issues, it’s almost time to leave and move on to middle school. It has taken us a few years to figure out that life, education and a great school are made up of more than just good math and ELA test scores. Thank you for reading.

Teachers get stuck on very silly things. They want students to say what they want to hear. The principal has an attitude. Teachers never admit they were wrong even when it is obvious. The principal backs up the teacher. When she knows they are wrong she avoids meeting the parents. She will refuse to meet at 7 am and schedule a meeting midday, so it is hard for the parent to leave work.

In all honesty, I really detested the 3rd to 6th grade. My kinder-2nd grade school teachers were satisfactory, but from the 3rd grade on up, I really had a problem with my teachers. The only reason I actually managed to get good grades and know anything that the "teachers" "taught" was from my parents sending me to an afterschool. I learned literally nothing from my 3rd to 6th grade classes.I highly recommend that nobody should consider sending their children to this horrendous school. The teachers are extremely biased as well. For example, Teacher, ________ was biased to the point were she didn't give out detentions to only 1 student even when He/She didn't complete His/Her homework! If you want your child to have a good education I highly suggest that you send your student to a different school. This is coming from the best point of view one could have on insights in a school. Teachers are biased and won't report freely, parents aren't there at school with the students 24/7, and the same reason with teachers for the principal as well. Notice how all the reviews that are above me are by parents. There are almost none by the student, and now, you got one.

Los Coyotes Elementary School is a school that prepares the students for the skills they will need as they progress upward through the grades. The teachers are excellent, know their subject matter well and are able to teach and reach all of the students. Parents are involved and positively influence the quality of the school. Grandparents are welcome and made to be an integral part of the school community. There is such a diversity of ethnicities and all are welcomed and included as well. What a great school to have my three grandchildren attend and I enjoy being a part of their educational process. Parents are well aware of safety concerns these days. Los Coyotes School is a safe and clean campus. The custodial staff take pride in keeping the school well-maintained and the entire staff work to keep the campus secure. All adults on campus and those who visit cooperatively work to keep the students safe and learning. My thanks to the staff and the principal for this great educational environment for my grandkids.
