  This alternative magnet high school has a variety of interesting STEM courses, a solid arts program, and teachers who are very invested in the success of their students. Principal Gino LoRicco thinks outside of the box and has instituted a unique culture where students are respected and their opinions are valued. Every Friday, the entire faculty and student body attend a "town meeting" where anyone is welcome to speak. They only recently started enrolling freshman, but even ninth graders can earn college credits through their partnership with QVCC. QMC presents a safe environment for LBGTQ youth and others who may have have negative experiences at other schools. Extracurricular activities are rather limited at this time, but there is a club for anime and other "geeky" interests, as well as regular open mike nights for budding musicians. ...More Reviews

  First, please move this to the High School category. Apparently the 'Middle' in the name confuses the GreatSchool search bots. Second, QVMCHS is an outstanding example of a secondary school preparing it's students for tertiary education. The school is actually part of the Quinebaug Valley Community College campus giving its students a real taste of post-secondary school and motivating many of them to set greater goals compared to the educational expectations with which they arrived.
