We've been paying Katy ISD taxes for 5 years to send our only kid here and highly regret it! Pre-K was supposed to be fun but it became our worst nightmare! The teacher was like an army sargent with no understanding or compassion. She expected 4 year olds to behave like adults and would constantly harass us for any minor issue either by email, letter or stopping by at the car during pick up. They don't seem to like immigrant families and would immediately label any cultural difference as behavioral issues. The assistant principal is nothing short of a prison guard! She's rude and insensitive and would boss you around like she owns you with no respect for your opinion! I don't know about the higher grades, but if Pre-K is like enlisting your kid in the army, what's going on in third or fourth grade?!?!Would pay out of pocket for a private Kindergarten to let my kid enjoy his toddler years and would never look back at this place!

A current Katy ISD OKE 5th grade teacher is knowingly committing adultery and lewd and immoral acts with the father of two children who attended Odessa Kilpatrick from kindergarten through the fifth grade. This is a violation of the Educators’ Code of Ethics adopted in compliance with the Texas Education Code:“. . . the educator shall be of good moral character and demonstrate that he or she is fit and worthy to instruct or supervise the youth of this state.shall be fit and worthy.”This violation was reported to school administrators before the school year began and purposefully ignored. If you have a child attending OKE, you have a right to know whether your child’s teachers are fit to instruct and supervise him or her. Beware of what you don’t know about your child’s teachers. Get informed.

We moveed here just for the sake of this school. OKE is the only school that has not zoned to any apartments. So far I don't see any negative impact. Both of my kids' teacher in 1st and 3rd grade are very good, strict with homework and class work but flexible enough with other social stuff. Principal is a wonderful lady who worked here for a long long time and she is so dedicated. I feel that everyone is warmly welcome us although we don't start from kindergarten. Admin staffs greet kids by names. Very clean and well informed school.

We have been blessed with GREAT teachers but the admin is horrible! Condescending, disrespectful attitudes. I have 2 kids at the school and we are working with a realtor to get out of OKE....it is a decision that is NOT taken lightly but in the few times that I've had to deal with the admin (both the principal and the assistant) have left me feeling utterly dismayed at the lack of common decency in how you treat others. We have NO behavior problems so I've only dealt with them about my child who had some reading "stuggles" (meaning he's reading on the appropriate level but not as high as they demand). Ask around...I have yet to meet one person who is pleased with the admin. No complaints about the teachers but the admin ruins it for everyone!

Parent of 2x ex-students. The teachers are great on the whole, thank goodness. However my opinion is:The administration has very black and white views (think baptist) and terrible condescending attitudes, who hide behind their rules all the time, then blame the rules as if there is nothing they can do (codswallop!). This is all to discipline what in the whole are really, really good kids. This discourages young children at the early stages of their schooling about education, basically for just being kids, over the most minor of offenses, including standing up for themselves against bullies. Even if a teacher who didn't see something, they will lie I found out, teaching my child to shut up rather than tell the truth.The administration forget they act in "loco parentis" (in place of the parent) not over and above the parent, hence condescending. Refusing a parent to aid an injured child to her school room preferring to see that child struggle to walk, because they'd held me up in four different lines to get permission to help her over nearly half an hour and now it was too late.I've tried reasoning with them, standing up to them, nothing works and couldn't wait for my youngest to leave!Putting kids first and the schools motto of "allowing kids to be kids" is a joke in poor taste.If I had to do it again, I'd put my children in another Katy elementary school, as for certain teachers and administration, getting their own way and Katy politics actually rule attitudes, not common sense. If the Principal can't make decisions based on the grey areas and hides behind awful rules, and the admin staff not use their grey matter, what is the point of having humans to staff or a leader. Rules never cover 100% of human interaction. Now that Maalouf is assistant principal..... Good luck! Again pure politics in my opinion.

The teachers at this school are amazing. And, that is where my positive review ends. This school is consumed with rules and test scores, and care little about the actual child. Little things like dropping off lunches and homework left at home, are against the rules. I was instructed to leave my kindergartener's lunch on a cafeteria bench, but they couldn't guarantee he would receive it. The pick up and drop off lines are horrendous, and plan at least 20 minutes to check in for class parties etc. The school has too many children, and are more concerned with running smoothly than the needs of children. Feels much more like a business than an elementary school. And, if your child needs special education or testing, plan on it taking awhile! We originally picked OKE for the amazing test scores and at that time, great reviews. Unfortunately the school has changed over the last 5 years. The school's emphasis is getting things done within their legal timeframe vs. the needs of children. Test scores are not everything! While academics are very important...elementary schools should also be warm, and inviting.

I have two children attending Kilpatrick for the last 3-4 years. The teachers are wonderful and very helpful. The principal is very nice and always greeted us. We love the front office staffs, they are very friendly and helpful. And don't forget the amazing PTA that get so much done with their fund raising. We are happy to contribute money because we know they are helping OKE with need technology and supplies.

My family and I have relocated from abroad 7 months ago. I have a second grader girl that entered OKE 5 days after arriving to Katy, TX. She had some English knowledge, but was not fluent. All the staff and classmates have been very kind with her and helped her transition smoothly. She is receiving ESL support, and we see her progress day after day. She wakes up every morning with a smile and doesn't want to miss a single minute at her school. She has always been an enthusiastic student, and this school is plenty of new challenges for her.

This school is good on testing score partially because some lower than average kids especially boys have to move out due to too many hard tests. Only good students left can pass all the state tests.

This school was Ok when we moved here, but now the whole school only cares about testing scores, not functions as educators. The school 'score is good now is because the quality of students in this neighborhood is better, and the parents/private helpers have taught a lot after school. This is because of the leadership change, teachers have to follow the principals. If your kids is an average performer, this is not a good school. Some parents have left, as a result, any school that keeps only the good ones can get higher average testing scores.

This school WAS amazing, many years ago under the direction of another principal (who opened OKE and did such a great job was asked to open another new school in 2008).Since said principal left, the school is not the same.It's all about the leadership and what ideals the principal has for the school.Now the school seems more concerned with policies and red tape than what is best for the students.Many teachers followed the old principal to the new school.I must say most of the teachers are wonderful and seem to really love their profession; however there are a few who are not as wonderful (to say the least).When we had an issue, I was told by an AP she knew this teacher for many years and she could not believe her teacher friend would do anything that my child stated occurred and she dismissed the issues stating my child was just sensitive!No further investigation was done. Other parents have had similar complaints, yet all complaints fall on deaf ears. This school is horribly overcrowded, dismissal time is a NIGHTMARE and they refuse to change anything to help this situation.Very disappointed in the direction the school has taken.

Excellent school with excellent teachers and staff.They have few wonderful academic programs which you will not find in other good schools of Katy,which makes Kilpatrick best in Katy isd.We feel very blessed that our kids are able to attend such a great school and I regard the school for helping to shape the future of our kids.

Please note when reading these reviews that the principal of the school has changed since 2007 when all the great reviews were written. The current principal, Maylnn Rodriguez, is the 2012 principal who has been there since approximately 2009 when much poorer reviews began...

For all the good you hear about Katy schools, I run in to more and more people who have children that have struggled in elementary. I know people who are paying tutors in the first grade, paying for outside testing and paying for help for their child. One of my children has done okay in the school, the other has struggled. He basically is just not that far behind. Seems fine if no issues, but so many kids these days have issues, and unless they are really bad off, or in the politcally correct categories, plan on paying to get help for your own child. A couple of fantastic teachers, a few okay
